Thanks! I am making multiple drawings that will use the same layers and I wanted a faster way to get those same layers without having to create the same layers for each drawing.
AutoCAD is brutal. I'm receiving dwg files with dozens to hundreds of layers. Trying to extract one layer so I can import it into my GIS is like rocket science. There seems to be no way to export/import only one of them.
Yes that works well when multiple drawings are open. You can also copy and paste the content from one drawing to another which automatically copies the respective layers. The method shown in this video is helpful for creating an external standalone file.
Hi, thx to share everything. But now there is a problem, idk if you know the solution BUT the thing is that I dont know how to save the layer's description. Well its not possible I would understand, eather way if you dont find the answer hahaha Sry for my bad english, I'm learning :) Thx!
Thank your reply it heled a lot. I want ti ask about how to save the dimension style setting so i can reuse on other new drawings . It does not come with the imported layers . I understand that it is not a layert but i thought it might come back with the dimension style. After you teach us how to save it and imported will it be imported with it override settings as well ?
smartboy20070 Good question! Dimension style settings are found in a different menu. I will create a tutorial on this subject and post the link shortly!
Thank for the vedio, was great ,i have a proplem though when i use ceter line layer or the hidden line layer the those line comes solid even though wile setting the layers i have selleced center type and hiddeen type, wht do you think otverriding this settings ?
smartboy20070 Check to make sure that the properties for the selected line display "by layer" for the linetype. Then check your linetype scale; you may need to scale up or down.
Very helpful 😊 thank you

Do you have a macro or LISP routine that will import the layers?
A easier way is to use design center and drag the layers from one drawing to another, just type DC at the command line
