Performed at the Queen's Park Savannah, Trinidad & Tobago.
Saturday, February 22nd, 2020.
I am very happy my favorite steel orchestra "Desperadoes" won. They were robbed last year with "Iron Love" but history was on the wall with this song More Sokah. This win is for Ras Shorty I, Clive Bradley, Allison Hennessy and the Legendary Rudolph Charles. For all those "Haters" take yuh loss and take a rest. Congratulations Nailah and Zanda 2 years of sweet and exciting music.
Said it since the prelims; while other bands were narrating a story, Desperadoes was invoking the soul. Bradley spirit was dancing tonight. Well done true champions.
The other bands were plagiarizing. All the arrangers now trying to see how many other tunes they can fit into the song that they are supposed to be arranging. Despers stuck to the musical script and it was sweet!
@@COCOB2096 very well said some arrangers love to put in other music not from the original song it work last year for renegades but repeat it year after year the music comes dull so desperadoes you 100 per cent won it more sokah

Yes, they need to stop the nonsense. Use your God given talent and create. Stop taking other people music and trying to make it your own. It is overdone now!

Despers' "runs" are incredible.
If I didn't know better one would believe that Desperadoes used 1,000 pan players. .... perfect tone, loud volume and player dexterity. .. a winning edge ... along with Zanda's style of LAYERING ..... whereby he is able to repeat parts of his arrangement while adding as he goes along.... this is a style he used with his previous band Siparia Deltones but did not create the same effect as with a BIG Band of Despers quality. ..... hats off .. victory was deserving. ..

Zanda's lyrical orchestration techniques are incredible. nothing lost in complex density.

Zanda brought "the Ghost of Bradley" with this arrangement.Desperadoes stayed with the tune and did not stray.

I am very much concerned with the change in the Performance environment over the years. If you look at Panorama videos from the late 70's to the the 90's the audience was right up to the front of the stage creating a far more festive atmosphere. Now there is all this empty real estate at the front of the stage??!! They need to bring back those "Nice Vibe" inducing elements from the "Golden Era of Pan"!!!

Well Done! Only one thing! Let the flag people move to the side 1min after the band starts playing. I love the Pan music and love to watch the Synchronicity of hand movements and plays. As a person that love photography, the flag people will be in ALL the photos taken. I want to see the BAND itself that is in the competition.
Behave yourself. The ladies in red are fabulous! As much as I love the pan some of most memorable parts are the ladies dancing. Sweet sweet women

Regardless who win, someone is going be upset and thinks their band was cheated; Normal human behavior. It's ok to think like that, they'll be ok in a few weeks.
They deserved it, last year they came in2nd.
People need to stop comparing zan and brandly, both men are magnificent musician/arrangers...yes they have similar styles let zan has his recognition without the comparison please. He been doing his thing even befor brandly passed. Yall only jump on the zanwagon when he went to despers. He been a great and underrated arranger
Ps: my humble opinion zanda is one if not the best arranger I've played for ... yes I played for deltones under his arrangements for many many years.

You clearly deaf! Zanda pound that phrase in our heads throughout the entire arrangement. And it was what set them apart from the second place winners. Towards all stars end I forgot for a second what they were playing nevertheless amazing!

Must agree. Did politics have anything to do with this victory? Between semis and finals there is this huge promotion by of all people, the Prime Minister. Not to mention the insurmountable amount of points to make up. Didn't like Renegades theatrics, but that did not take anything away from their performance. At least I hope it did not. Nevertheless, congratulations to Desperadoes.
I'd just like you to know the 1 million in which despers won, has nothing to do with the new panyard we are getting. It is government funded. It has always been in the works for two years. They government has plans for the lot of land that despers is currently on, hence the reason for the gift from the government. Stop making misinformed comments.

Totally agree. But honest unbiased evaluation is always interpreted as hated. Despers has always been a great band and still is.
However, @ 2:50 and beyond in this arrangement was just plain dry. Renegades took this by at least three points.
