This show is brilliant! Our society is in desperate need of honest debate amongst the different groups. It's so important for anyone to be able to listen to reason if they happen to be wrong about something.

We're already talking about candidates for 2020... are you shitting me? There's a massively important election in 2018, let's stir up the interest for that first! Democrats and liberals need to take back Congress, and this is a huge opportunity to do so. Everything about 2020 is way too speculative right now, so let's look to 2018 and mark it, because that shit's important.

Augustus, the entire house is up for reelection in 2018. Democrats can work to try to take that back. Like how the republicans did in 2010.

Bernie should look which progressive young forces he can "bind".Many Trump voters in the known regions would choose him, without a doubt!
I see 'these Democrats' and Republicans in steep descent. I hope that the good forces unite and the USA finally give a more humane face. It's a shame to have to witness this destruction. But it is also the result of decades of failed domestic and foreign policy!

No, that's such bullshit. The media played the stupid Benghazi and email thing way too much. That's one of the few things I will give her.
They gave way too much credibility to Donald Trump including playing his rallies when they could've covered other candidates including Republicans.
There was also sexism and the Electoral College.
Having said that, Obama also had those problems (except racism in place of sexism) and he managed to win anyway, so Clinton has no excuse.

Bernie is not a socialist, he is a Social Democrat -
What that means is that he wants to actually put our tax dollars to good use by stopping these utterly mindless wars in the middle east (we're currently in 7 of them), and invest some of our tax dollars into making our country stop being a shithole. We're the richest nation the face of the earth has ever seen, and yet 50% of our population makes under $30,000/year and about 60 million Americans cannot afford healthcare without a subsidy. For your education, here are some institutions that are socialist:
      1. The military
      2. Social security
      3. Medicare
      4. Medicaid
      5. Infrastructure at large
      6. Public schooling (K-12)
      7. Law enforcement
      8. Firefighters
      9. The Environmental Protection Agency
      10. NASA
      11. The National Parks System
There are many many more, but I'm not going to list hundreds of things for you.

Tulsi Gabbard is legit. If big names like Bernie or Elizabeth Warren decide not to run, Tulsi Gabbard could be a dark horse. Kamala Harris is another one who's considered a "rising star" in the party who aligns with Sanders and Warren on a number of issues. I don't know much about this Gavin Newsom guy that Maher has a hard on for, but he seems like another solid liberal candidate from everything I've heard about him.
I'll be happy to vote for almost any candidate to beat Trump, as long as it's no one like Corey Booker or Tim Kaine. Please democrats, FOR ONCE learn from your mistakes. Kirsten Gillibrand is another name I've heard, and although she's admittedly better than corporate sell outs like Booker or Kaine, she's not as strong as some of the progressive candidates.

    • @iloveyoumadhuri
      @iloveyoumadhuri 7 років тому +5

José Gomes How is Gavin more prepared? He was a San Francisco mayor and a Lt. Governor. Gabbard at least served in the military, has a detailed plan to get us out of wars, and is going in the philosophy route of the most popular politician according to a Fox News Poll: Bernie Sanders!
All Congressional members do is have 5-6 weekly 10-hour days with some lawmaking work and 4 hours of fundraising calls.
If you replaced Gabbard's schedule with the president's she'd do a good job because the 4 hours would be replaced with more meaningful work.
Plus, a Lt. Governor has NO tasks nearly as complicated as a Congressional member!!! So Gabbard over Newsome makes sense, barring her Samoan heritage costing her citizen eligibility.

You Keep voting for the same corporate whore's that got us to this point in the first place, yet the people who don't vote for these people are the problem? I live in Massachusetts. My vote would've been inconsequential. Yet I'm the problem for not voting lol don't blame people who don't vote blame the electoral college that you would be fine with right now if Hillary had lost the popular vote but won electorally.

Oh please. I've voted many times. I didn't give up a right to complain and I'm not part of the problem. I didn't vote this last time around because those two main candidates are the problem. They have to earn my vote and neither of them did. Continuing to vote for poor choices seems like part of the problem in my eyes and I'm not alone in that view.

Where did you get that quote from? It surely wasn't from anything I said. Nobody is going to be absolutely perfect. That's why I swallowed and voted for Obama a second time after he proved to be almost nothing like he promised the first time around. Hillary? She was far from being an acceptable candidate to me so why would I give her my vote? No thanks. As mentioned above. I value my integrity. Maybe next time the left will pick a decent candidate that actually gives a shit about every day working class folks. Or you know, won't pull a total cock block like Wasserman Shultz did.

Ryan- My opinion is similar. Obama was a real disappointment, and trying to force TPP on us showed me how sold out he was. The DNC shows no sign of having learned anything, and even this week continued to fill its leadership roles with corporate sell outs. Expect nothing from the DNC candidates in the future, the democrats are greasing up their cheeks for another ass whooping.

It has to be a good-looking young smart white guy. I'm sorry things have to come up to this, but that's what America is like, unfortunatelly. I love Bernie, but he won't have the stamina and not the same momentum in 2020. Liz Warren, love her, but she is widely unpopular, look at the polls, comparing her to Bernie and so. Let's not fuck up, liberals. Run someone who can win the general election, don't make the same mistake from last year. Bernie polled way better than Hillary against Trump. Dems chose Hillary anyway, look how that ended...

What many here forget is that Barney Frank IS the expert on the workings of Congress and the government, Andrew Sullivan is NOT. Sullivan may be an expert author, editor, and blogger, but he's a former conservative political commentator. So, let's see: a conservative who imagines himself as a libertarian, who's still trying to carve out a niche of influence for himself and the extremely small and rare group of others who think he's a spokesman, to influence the political party that gave American history the New Deal, the New Frontier, the Great Society, and yes, the Vietnam War. Now, THAT's laughable.
Sullivan backed down time and again against what appeared to be Frank's bluster-bordering-churlishness because Frank has Sullivan's number, and Sullivan knows it.
What everyone needed to see is how cool, measured, solid, and completely professional and expert Senator Sheldon Whitehouse was on the show and during Overtime. The admonition of 'If you don't have something nice to say about someone, STFU' may not apply with full force in politics or in Bill's House, but there IS a genuine, honest, and kind way to say those things. Sullivan doesn't know how to do that, and that's more revealing about who he is as a person than any of the intellectual rants that are entertaining to some of us.
Just as many of the men (and fewer women) that we elect and reelect to represent us and to create laws don't know this basic skill-this may be the underlying reason our Congress doesn't work the way the Constitution intends. Not only do we need more women in Congress (and in state governments across the country), we need more academics, especially those who are experienced in the skill of collaboration and meeting (K-12 curricular goals). For every business person we elect to public office, we should elect a K-12 public school teacher. Now that we have a plutocrat in office, and can see the pernicious effect of money in our politics, it's time for us to start thinking differently about the expert teachers among us.
