    I had a DUI conviction in 2001 and two assault convictions in 1996. Would this stop me from being able to visit Canada?

    Hi, .I have a DUI offence which took place in early 2018 and falls under the old DUI laws. However, after 5 years of waiting and fighting I was given a conviction with just a fine of 1000$. Note that I was not given any probation order and driving probation.
    I am not sure if this conviction now will make be inadmissible, I would need to travel outside Canada and i am scared if I would be denied entry to Canada or issued a deportation order. My charges were a summary conviction. I would really appreciate if you could share me your input. I'm currently living in Canada on Post Graduate work permit.

    I have a single dui charge from 7 years ago. I have to fly out and didn’t realize this would be an issue, no time for TPR. The charge is from 2015. Didn’t have to do probation or anything. Will I be able to get in? It’s not quite the ten years but it’s more than five years and prior to the 2018 change. Thanks in advance!

      Hmmmm ... if the conviction was for DUI (not a reduction) there may be an issue still. You are eligible for admissibility 5 years after probation ended. IF probation was only 2 years you might be eligible. If in doubt, you may be wise to get a free consult with a Canadian Immigration lawyer.

      @@legaleaz hi! Thanks for getting back to me :) I never had to do probation. So not sure if that makes a difference.

    Hi. Quick question I have 2 DUI and the last one was in 2011. Over 10 years ago. Am I able to get pass??? And how do I check my status?? Please help. Thank you

    • @legaleaz
      @legaleaz  2 роки тому

      The answer is probably as the older DUIs would generally not be considered as an absolute bar to entry as they occurred prior to the 2019 change in law. However, entry is still at the discretion of the border control. From my experience it is most likely you will be permitted entry given these facts. However, consulting with an immigration (Canadian) attorney might be wise if you NEED to gain access to Canada.

      @@legaleaz I have 2 DUIs. What are my chances of getting a TRP to visit my wife and step sons?

    • @legaleaz
      @legaleaz  3 роки тому

      @@cylenightengale2998 Much depends on how old the DUIs are - if they are many years old (i.e. 10 years old) you may be okay to travel freely but if they are more recent, you will likely need to get a TRP. A client of mine just successfully obtained a TRP as his father lives in Canada and he takes care of his father (he travels there often). Be sure you consult with a Canadian Immigration lawyer. The cost of a lawyer to get a TRP is around $1500+.

    I was never in parole or probation but they send me the application back asking me for proof of parole/probation was terminated will they take a letter stating that I was never in parole/probation please help thank you :)

    • @legaleaz
      @legaleaz  2 роки тому +1

      Hmmm...hard to comment not knowing all the details but if there was a criminal case it would be wise to either get the Judgment and Sentence for or the Court Docket. Both should indicate if there was probation or if there wasn't. You can get either directly from your court. If you had an attorney, the attorney can write a letter for you.

      Good question but honestly, most American lawyers would have no idea about Canadian immigration laws - HOWEVER - they should know how to find this information or provide a referral to clients.
