I was getten 3 position blues scale. I feel happiness about getting 3 position blues scale and some 3 position minor scale from you. So I can learn to get more practice on harmonica. I respect you for sharing and teache. You are my harmonica teacher. I know you are very nice. brother
I was trying to learn 2nd position and I stumbled onto the Circle of Fifths. Game changer. My whole world around music just blew my mind with the Circle of Fifths. Really, students getting into band or something like that, learn the basics, but after that, learn the Circle of Fifths.
I am not experted to play blues with blues notes. I am still learning how to write blues notes or how to write song melody notes. But I understand a little bit. But I will learn to play blues and song melodies. Thank you very much. brother
I may have played in third position without even knowing it love your tablature very easy to learn from never seen it done like that on UA-cam thanks so much please do more
On his long "East West" quasi Indian jam, Paul Butterfield played a great solo in third position. If you add the major 2nd and the major 6th that gives you the dorian mode, which what he used on that cut. Side note: Butterfield was definitely leaning in more of a jazz direction before his tragic early death. Had he lived, he might have gotten into overblows before Howard Levy arrived on the scene.
Thankyou so much! I've been playing around with third position playing for a while ,just not well improvising over a backing track, but after playing this lick/phrasing. i had so much inspiration for what i could do. you just unlocked the door for me with this. NICE 👍
Kind of. If you played all of the same notes that you would normally find in first position, but starting and ending on the root note of third position, then yes. However, most people don't do that, and instead they play scales that are focused around the root note of third position. So they are scales in their own key, not the Dorian mode of the labeled key. But you could play Dorian, it's just a little bit more complicated than just saying third position is Dorian.
I do overblows on 6 while lip pursing but am unable to do it while tongue blocking. Do you do it tongue blocking? I'm actually just learning tongue blocking.

Great lesson Johna.... Never really bothered with third position but now I see it's got grit .... Thanks definitely gonna hang in it more ....
Good explanation of 3rd position. Charlie Musselwhite’s version of Cristo Redentor in C minor (Bb Harmonica) is my favorite.
thank you, I don't read sheet music, but I play by ear your video was very helpful in understanding the 3rd position

This ws a great lesson, thank you Jonah. Never knew much about 3rd position.
Great! Keep working at it; It’s not a replacement for 2nd, but it’s a nice option to have!
You are a great instructor! Thanks for the clear explanations and materials.
Very good, Thank you

That’s great! I love when things click like that, I’m happy that my video put the pieces together ✌️
Great info! I often play in third position but never knew of the minor pentatonic scale.
Great playing. I like your vibrato, very agressive.

Thank you for this AWESOME 👍 3rd position riff and lesson!!!!
Kick ass blues! Loads of feeling and expression!!
Glad you enjoyed the jam!
Excellent lesson as usual.
At 4:10, you said "6 blow half step bend", but I assume you meant "6 DRAW half step bend".
What about playing the guitar at the harmonica at the same time?
Also , Howard Levy plays in all positions!
What about 12 position blues scale?
Суператассно !!!
Hi this is great! but aren't you leaving out first few holes on the harmonica?
Yes to make the video more concise. Go here for all the notes: bit.ly/scalesheet
you are leaving out the 1 and 3 holes on the 3rd scales
Super good information.. Wouldn’t 3rd position technically be Dorian?

Yeah, I do. I’m not sure if it’s harder or not, but I figured it out eventually. Reed setup matters more than perfect technique
