  • This video is for all the VW Transporter fans out there. At some point, you will experience a knocking or thudding sound inside the cab. This video could be the fix. We have tried to keep it as close to a tutorial as possible, without stretching the video out too much.

Nice looking new bush, too easy to fit in relation to standard ones. One step I think you missed during reinstallation of the control arm. The standard bush and possibly the new style bush should not be tightened and torqued before jacking the control arm up to it's normally loaded position. Otherwise, when the vehicles is at normal rest height / position the bushes are pre-loaded or torqued, which leads to premature wear.

I have transporter t5.1 the best mod you can do is to fit led replacement light units to replace the candles VW supply. Makes the van look much better with nice DRLs and you can see for miles at night !
I had bushing issue 2yrs ago on my van and ended up getting them replaced. Nice video and well put together - look forward to see more of your van ones

Thanks for this! Just bought a t5 and the front right is knocking like this, so gonna get in the air an check the bushes for movement 👍

With the front bush remaining in rubber it’s definitely not a good idea to tighten the bolts with the suspension hanging as that will cause the bushes to twist and wear prematurely.
Also noticed the wheel alignment wasn’t checked which is imperative when suspension components are removed let alone replaced.
Rather than Poly bushes if you use the T32 rear lower bush it’s the same fitment as all the other models but a solid rubber bush so offering a much nicer ride quality on road surfaces compared to a solid polyurethane bush

Good vid & very satisfying to sort the bushing issue; I had mine done on my T6 but also worth doing the full kit which includes the antiroll bar bushes.

The bush you fitted is made of polyurethane not rubber as you stated at 15:40 into the video.

Thanks for the video. I have a 2005 T5 and was wondering if you or anyone has replaced the 5speed gearbox with a 6? Just thinking it would add to the fuel economy of the van.
As far as bushings go, I seem to get knocks starting just a few weeks before PSV, it uncanny the regularity and really annoying. I'm a joiner so i'm hauling a van full of tools and materials most of the time and the state of the roads are not heling either.
I would like to replace all the bushings with nylon and if possible the ones on top of the front suspension struts. Not sure if they're available in nylon.

Hi mate, you got a link to the bushes ? I’ve got same, lowered it just now on stance plus before spending more if needed later to see how it looked and handled, I’ve still got knocking but actually not as bad now since putting coilovers on, mines a t5 2.5tdi lwb van, but I’ve fitter t6 front and tailgate / lights, doing a camper conversion with it

    Thanks Rob.

Hi, does anyone have a video clip of their knocking sound and resolution. Not sure if this is the issue I am having. I own a t5.1 2011. Slight knock when go from 1st to 2nd and 3rd. Seems when I accelerate, clunk when foot taken off clutch. 🤔

I’d be checking the wear on your offside driveshaft splines as these being worn can cause symptoms like you are experiencing
