In this games defense, I was in middle school when this came out and I would come home and play each day. Playing each day through school as the days in the game were changing made everything that happened in the game relatable and felt very impactful. I was drawn in and loved how as I was going through life the game and its story was flowing through the days as well. In the end it gave a feeling of attachment and that nothing lasts forever. Not to mention when you begin to lose your power to Xion you start to become noticeably weaker and it makes a big impact when you have to fight her as she uses the different staffs from each world to draw power from. Over all, this was my FIRST Kingdom Hearts game and what got me into the series as there were so many questions, and then played 1&2. Im still extremely bummed it didn't get remastered and instead got a cinematic only treatment. It will always have a special place for me, but thats just an opinion.
Bob Harly Wasn't my first KH game, but I definitely agree. Each KH game has a unique strong point, and this one was Feels for sure. KH - Universe CoM - Strategy Days - Feels II - Gameplay BBS - Story Coded - Revelation 3D - Mindfuckery (Plot Twists) 2.8 - Graphics X - Uniquity (Standalone-ishness)
I was in high school and I played it all the time, beat it in like a week, and I honestly think it's a good entry in the series. It's a 7/10 to most of the other games being 8 or 9. The biggest problem is that Xion probably won't serve any purpose other than for that one game, and it's just a complication to a simple story. It could have been Roxas finds out the Organization is just using him, so he goes to disrupt their plans and Riku gets in the way. Xion, from a narrative stand point, could be completely removed and with one line changed you'd have the same game. From that fans just complain about the fact the whole game is Roxas and Xion going, "But who was I?!" and other characters not saying anything for no reason. Axel could have told him, "You're the nobody of a guy called Sora, you've never seen him, and he could use the keyblade. That's why you're important." and then like the entire back half of the story wouldn't happen the way it does. Topping that with the mission structure and people felt like the game was repetitive because there's only like eight mission types in the whole game and only a handful of worlds. However, I still like the game, I love playing as all the Organization members, I think all the unlockables are awesome, I don't mind the panel upgrade system, I think the missions work great for the multiplayer, and it really still handles well for being a DS game. Play it on a 3DS with the stick, holy crap it's a new game entirely for me.
The game is fucking awful if you grind the whole thing in one day, which is why so many people hate it: most gamers will grind content if you don't put a limit on it. It's phenomenal if you play one mission per day, since it allows you to really get a feel for what the characters are going through on a level most games miss.
I don't know if this was intentional or not, but you can make the ice cream segment loop even longer by pressing the back button. It does a perfect loop.
