They have a very different relationship than any of the other trios. It's interesting to think about, but some of those scenes, like the beginning one, are kinda just... poorly written. Each of the BBS trio has a specific flaw: Terra is trusting too easily, Aqua is doubting too easily, and Ven is being gullible (I actually think he's the one who acts like an idiot out of the three, which makes sense). Meh, just my opinions.

@@scarletrose8766 In short: ven and terra are two big doofuses, master eraqus is a bigger doofus for not teaching them not to be such big doofuses, and aqua doesn't help things because instead of reasoning the doofuses back to square one she would rather scold them, hence increasing the all-round doofus levels. Then the doofus levels are off the charts when master erasqueeze wants to kill his student for being a bit of a doofus and then an even bigger doofus kills eraqus for being a total doofus. I enjoyed this video a lot. I like your normal pure-comedy ones, but 100% meme videos become repetitive with time, so I'm glad you mixed it up with in-depth analysis. I hope you will make more content in this style. Really entertaining.
It's only funny when you think that the best depiction of friendship in the whole series is by three people with no heart and two of them are basically the same person
I think that was the whole point of her character. She was the only character deemed Master at the start of the game and went about her story as such. That moment in Radiant Garden, as pointed-out by Ven, revealed her flaw that she was more concerned about her mission from Eraqus than Terra's desperate struggle to prove himself or Ven's lonely desire to be with his friends. I agree that the portrayal of friendship by the BBS trio at the beginning of the game was as a lot more subtle than the kind portrayed at the start of KHI, but that's also because of the vastly different circumstances between the two instances. The Terra/Ventus/Aqua scenario introduces us to three already established Keyblade students of two young adults and a freshman in what's practically a boarding school world, where as we meet the Sora/Riku/Kairi band as just three naive kids on a island looking for adventure. So, there definitely a distinct range of experience and maturity between the two groups. This is why, in my opinion, Aqua's real struggle was, not so much entirely the friendship gig, as much as it her being trusted with the Master title too soon. Eraqus' misjudged Aqua's emotional maturity as a Mark of Mastery when it turned-out she still had a pessimistic habit of doubting others in times of crisis and then herself when stuck in darkness. This is made clear during the Phantom Aqua battle in 0.2 when it admits that "[she's] no Keyblade Master". 0.2 helped Aqua realize that and rebuilt her to where she can now bear that title more confidently.
I don't believe this A meme channel just released the most inspired and thought provoking kingdom hearts video I've ever seen and after I thought the series had nothing to offer outside of vague plot direction and a bottomless timeline. I'm very impressed and pleasantly surprised
Wow... I'm used to memes and joke videos on this channel but... This was actually an excellent video (actually in the sense that it wasn't acting as a parody, but a well thought out analysis on Aqua's character). Yes, other people have brought up that Aqua's character in BBS is bad and that the parallel of friendship between Sora, Kairi, Riku is far superior to that of Terra, Aqua, and Ven, but Just a Pancake went further beyond and not only found examples in BBS that save Aqua's character but also about how 0.2 makes Aqua so relatable. It's a good thing Aqua's name means "Subscribe to Just a Pancake" because a video like this makes me glad I subscribed. The memes are good too, but this video is the icing on the p̶a̶n̶cake.
M0bileKeys I never knew people cared so much about both trios friendship. Then again, I don't really care about the story, because it got convoluted after KH1, and it started to seem that they made up new plots at random to keep the series going. Everything from the very moment in which nobodies were introduced is just..ugh. (Not saying KH was a masterpiece; it wasn't, but it had a far more simple and engaging plot with your typical cliches rather than a convoluted story who tries so hard to get an emotion out of you and be original through whatever shit they come up with). It also doesn't helps that any newcomer to the series has to go start from KH 1 (still fun but you can see it's dated, even with Final Mix version) to AT LEAST have an original idea of what's going on. I can't believe I'll say this, but I'd rather have Sora run around Disney World like an idiot instead of running around the edgy, melodramatic FF themes it tries to have. If they truly wanted to make a game that held on his own through good story, then they should have shoved KH aside.
Nukara Rikova That's just you and few other people. Just check on the forums; most people agree that after Chain of Memories, the story gets too convoluted to be interesting. People love KH2 because of its amazing gameplay, not the story. KH was childish indeed, but that's because it was targeted at children, not adults.
Nukara Rikova 1)Google's your friend. It doesn't bites. 2)Nope. Never cared about Roxas's vacations. Guess I'm a heartless moron or I saw it coming from a mile. The main problem is that they tried to continue a game which had a good ending (Riku and Mickey close the door to Kingdom Hearts). The pacing is all over the place (the Worlds are disconnected between themselves and feel like a "checkpoint list" to continue the story). Important characters which were moving the plot (such as DiZ and Riku) only appeared at the prologue and at the ending. Sora was dumbed down even though he had some depth in the original KH. Need I go on? Just because a story is simple doesn't means it's bad. And just because a story is convoluted, doesn't means it's good.
Nukara Rikova Google, kid, google. I'm in no mood to argue something which can be easily found on Google right now. Type "KH convoluted story" and make your own conclusions, I don't really care. Besides, if you limit your search to 2 webpages dedicated to the series, then of course you'll only find compliments. Can't you dig deeper than that?
Honestly Terra, Aqua and Ven have a strange type of friendship. It's not a social relationship, but a martial one. They aren't really friends, but comrades. They definitely care about each other, but it feels more like the relationships I've had with the people I fenced with in college. Or people who go to a dojo and practice a strict martial art. I think the competitive nature of what binds them together puts up these little barriers that prevent them from really letting their guards down around each other. Couple this with the fact that they don't really have anyone else to socialize with, then you get all those awkward moments between them when they try to reach each other on a personal level. Though every attempt is an honest one, they're literally a bunch of socially awkward teenagers trying to figure things out. It's fascinating, I think. Sora, Riku, and Kairi all seem much more socially adjusted with each other. Pettiness and jealousy drive Sora and Riku apart in KH1, but past that I think their relationships are pretty stable.
I mean once Ventus wakes up, he’s gonna be Aqua’s true friend and probably be a way better person. Aqua: “Ven, you were asleep for the past decade.” Ven: “I believe you.”
Man, I miss the old times. Talking with my friends about stars, sunsets, and police... Also, I didn't expect a so serious and true argument by the same pancake whose name spelled backwords is Just a Pancake, so I don't believe you, sorry.
Dayum, this’s actually a pretty deep and insightful analysis sometimes tbh. I guess even after playing BBS, the reason I still found Xion to be my favorite female KH character is that she actually struggles throughout the course of the game, whether it due to being shunned by Riku and Saïx or eventually learning that she’s nothing more than a hollow puppet meant to serve the organization’s goals, which’s to basically SUCC all of Sora’s (and to an extension Roxas) memories and power after the organization failed to capture him. And then her main struggle is in either confronting this and returning to Sora or remaining with her friends. And she ultimately ends up paying the price for it in her final clash with her close friend... Aqua meanwhile felt the least interesting and fleshed out of the Keyblade trio imo. Terra struggled with the darkness in his heart and controlling it, basically making him Riku 2.0 (or 1.0, since he technically came first), whereas Ventus had his naïveté shattered by realizing his friendship wouldn’t last forever and learned what his true purpose is. Aqua just...well, more or less exists in order to help her friends, which makes her lack an identity of her own. But then we fast forward to 0.2, where I felt *much* more invested in her character since here we struggle with fighting in the realm of darkness, and being there for so long has truly taken a toll on her mind and made her have doubts and insecurities in her actions. A part of her truly wants to give up and give into the darkness, and yet a small part still doesn’t want to lose hope, hence why she desperately chases the mirages of Terra and Ventus she sees. And in the end, even with presented to a chance to finally escape, she instead sacrifices her freedom in order to save Riku and Mickey, which’s truly selfless and noble. So tl;dr, 0.2 definitely improved Aqua despite its super short length, and I’d say she more than deserved her happy ending once KH3 eventually rolled around.
-Unversed Fantasy- I don't know, but there's this running joke where Pancake talks about how some character named "Xion" is a terrible character. Not knowing who they are, I'd like to know why.
As much as I like Aqua, this is legitimately the best I've seen anyone explain a critique of her character. And done, of course, in that inimitable Just a Pancake style.
I personally disagree, because I always saw Aqua’s character in BbS to be more about the struggle between her sense of duty and her devotion to her friends, rather than just the later, but that’s just how I read it. We’re all entitled to our own opinions~
Been looking for the right words, thank you! Her entire character in Birth By Sleep is about her trying to be a good Keyblade Master, and listing to orders given to her by her superior, and still trying to maintain a friendship she cares about. It was never just “friends” to me.
Nenilein even if that were the case I've seen hundreds of Shonen anime series that does that concept better, and it doesn't make you want to turn off your computer/tv screen.
Guys, it's Xehanort in disguise! He has a UA-cam channel. We are all doomed! Applesauce is trying to take Just a Pancake as the 13th seeker of darkness. *EVERLASTING DARKNESS.*
Nomura knows thi, in this game Aquas darness tells her " your friends only hold you back" and everytime she wonders about that she stops herself. Sounds like the problem is acknowledged very well.
To be honest the novel fixes this problem too. There's a few chapters of the book dedicated to showcasing how Terra, Aqua, and Ventus when they were younger, and then their friendship building over time. Most of the time it takes place immediately after Xehanort left Ventus with Eraqus, and a young Aqua and Terra trying to help Eraqus get Ven back on his feet; but then it focuses on the Wayfinder Trio's friendship building once Ventus is healed. It was pretty damn wholesome. Not to mention they use that time to explore the characters more, and even give them some nice quirks that helps humanize them. Honestly the scenes from the novel should have been in the game, it would have fixed so many problems it had.
i never really thought about her as an individual character, moreso just bbs and her role as a whole, but this actually made me think about that. i can't believe i found this kind of content HERE. but it was funny too. 10/10
I think the reason Aqua seemed so bland in BBS is because she kind of was the 3rd wheel. Despite meeting Kairi, we knew nothing about her and BBS was explaining the fates of Ventus and Terra. It really didn't feel like Nomura had an idea what to do with Aqua's character, thus she spent most of her time chasing her friends shadows only to fall to darkness. I do agree with you though, 0.2 did bring alot of depth to Aqua. Where she has a long look in the mirror and does everything she can to keep herself from shattering to pieces, desperately clinging to even a semblance of herself and resisting the darkness for ten years.
I talk like that to people after i break into their homes all the time. Just last week i met this guy Terry. We got along once he put down his shotgun. We're going out for Arbys tomorrow night. He promised not to handcuff me into a chair this time.
Wow, I thought this whole video was going to be a troll, but you did an excellent analysis of Aqua and the redemption of her character. Maybe in KHIII we'll get some back story to see how Terra, Aqua, and Ventus all met for the first time and they'll do cutesy, realistic friendship stuff like Sora, Riku, and Kairi did. Mr. Just a Pancake, sir, could you do an analysis of the friendship and struggles of Roxas, Axel, and Xion next, please? I think the subject would make for a perfect video. I, no joke, believe Roxas is one of the most tragic and well-developed characters in fiction, and I'm sad every time to think about the sacrifices made by Axel and Xion.
I mean we DO see how Ventus met Aqua and Terra for the first time in BBS. Didn't go too well... But Terra and Aqua meeting for the first time, that would actually be really interesting!
Wait a justapancake video which actually analyzes the characters if kingdom hearts accurately and not 100% memes... This is heresy to the 572.69th degree
As an Aqua fan, I can 100% agree with this analysis. At first I thought Aqua being all moody and depressed in 0.2 was a bit weird, but then I realized, "Oh yeah, she's been spending the last decade or so in the Kingdom Hearts equivalent of actual Hell with endless hordes of monsters constantly trying to eat her heart, I wouldn't exactly be all smiles and friendship at that point either". Frankly the fact that she's able to keep fighting the darkness at that point at all speaks volumes to why she is considered a Master. Hopefully when Kingdom Hearts 4 comes out 17 years from now we'll get to see Aqua's personality when she's not completely bogged down by worrying about her friends. At this point the gang's been reunited, there's no Terra falling to darkness or Ventus taking the most epic power nap in the universe to live rent free in her head anymore, so hopefully we'll get to see a side of Aqua that doesn't need "She cares about her friends, Terra and Ventus" added to the description.
Kaelan if Just a Pancake releases a video on why Xion sucks it would be released after the third Kingdom Hearts video game gets released next the 29th of next month.

Then the three doofus amigos go to a scrapyard in the middle of nowhere because they got told to do so by the most saturdaymorningcartoonvillain-looking mf'er around because they are the three champions of general doofussery. Hilarity ensues. Xehanort is now inside several teenage boys and girls.
Omg the hand on my chest thing had me in tears. I love that about her but didn’t even realize she did that sooo much
eyezcosplay i always thought it was her trying to calm herself,
Definitely didn't expect an actual analysis, It was a great video and it went straight to the point. Really would like to see other videos like this in the future.
When i first saw you mention you were making a "serious analysis video on Aqua's character" I thought it was a joke but you actually had good reasoning and made a point. Please make more of these type of videos I love the memes but these are good too!
I enjoyed this video a lot. I like your normal pure-comedy ones, but 100% meme videos become repetitive with time, so I'm glad you mixed it up with in-depth analysis.
I hope you will make more content in this style. Really entertaining.
Wait......
THIS IS AN ACTUAL VIDEO AND NOT A JOKE?????

But....friendship :'(
That last line about kh3 being released next year was perfect.
And strangely accurate
It's only funny when you think that the best depiction of friendship in the whole series is by three people with no heart and two of them are basically the same person
I was shocked when Aqua actually almost put emotion into her words in 0.2
KH3 is out and HAHA NOPE. Who needs character development when you got "Good morning Ven." Totally best buds.
Kh3 did her character dirty. Not gonna lie.
I thought it was "Simple and Clean?" Not dark and gritty and messy...
sadly one of the better moments of KH3 writing
I forgot tell everyone where Aqua is, but did you know....
my name spelled backwards is dis-
I think you will never finish a sentence... Poor guy that his name spelled backwards is Dis-
You're name spelled backwards is Disney.
Only the great Yen Sid can speak that name, not you, puny mortal. XD

"Let's hope Kingdom Hearts 3 does a similar thing when it gets released next year."
"Will it really do a similar thing?"
"NO."
I don't believe this
A meme channel just released the most inspired and thought provoking kingdom hearts video I've ever seen and after I thought the series had nothing to offer outside of vague plot direction and a bottomless timeline. I'm very impressed and pleasantly surprised
Great video. It was serious, yet still held that Pancake-y feel.
10/10 would fall to DARKNESS again
Nukara Rikova
1)Google's your friend.
It kinda depends if you're looking at a KH game by itself or as part of the franchise.
Take a shot every time a KH character puts there hand on there chest and closes there eyes
Damn I tried lost consciousness before finishing KH1.
My friend took shots everytime the Heavy says “METAL GIANT”. He still survived after 300 shots.
Yeah, why do they do that? Do the writers think that makes the characters look more emotional?
Aqua: “Ven, you were asleep for the past decade.”
Ven: “I believe you.”
Aw nooooo, the sad part is it’s actually a well structured and well defined argument that I’m agreeing with. If I could subscribe again I would.
This video actually made sense for once and isn't just memes. Best video so far, jokes AND an actual opinion.
Was not expecting a serious video from you (though I did enjoy it), but then you talked about KH3 arriving next year and it was all fixed again.
Man, I miss the old times. Talking with my friends about stars, sunsets, and police...
Also, I didn't expect a so serious and true argument by the same pancake whose name spelled backwords is Just a Pancake, so I don't believe you, sorry.
puts hand on chest
thinks of all the dank kingdom hearts memes Just a Pancake has created and closes eyes
And then Aqua fell an accidently became a *Z-nort*
Pancake uploaded?!? *Y E E T*
1:53 I think Just a Pancake is talking to someone, but nobody is there. Nobody is there. *Nobody* .
Great video, I hope you do similar style videos about other characters as well.
4:34, I thought this was a serious video.
1 year later.....
3:08 - 3:15
This can apply to Naruto as a whole.
I can write a thesis on how Naruto and Sasuke's "relationship" is the worse
Akumaten Juugou
Please, write a novel! :)
And then, kingdom hearts 3 came around and Aqua was STILL THE SAME. She is pretty though.
"When KH 3gets released next year" I laughed and laughed so hard!
I'm from the year 2028 and I can finally say KH 3 maybe will come out next year next to half life 3
Dayum, this’s actually a pretty deep and insightful analysis sometimes tbh.
Now talk about why you think Xion is a bad character. I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning for that.
"Roxas? What do you mean?" -Axel Kh358/2 days/SAVEEEEEMEEEE
How does one remember Xion? I forgot about her. cx
-Unversed Fantasy- I don't know, but there's this running joke where Pancake talks about how some character named "Xion" is a terrible character. Not knowing who they are, I'd like to know why.
Brian Manley Jr. Sorry, I was making a bad joke. Though I'm interested in that as well!
-Unversed Fantasy- Understood.
This video is.... different....
I actually like it
As much as I like Aqua, this is legitimately the best I've seen anyone explain a critique of her character. And done, of course, in that inimitable Just a Pancake style.
Did....I just learn something from Pancake's channel?
A good analysis! I really hope Aqua is better in KH3. She has so much potential as a character.
And then she becomes one with Darkness.
*KEYBLADE*
He puts a lot of comedic parts in it, but this seriously puts a needed point on the character personality and development
I personally disagree, because I always saw Aqua’s character in BbS to be more about the struggle between her sense of duty and her devotion to her friends, rather than just the later, but that’s just how I read it. We’re all entitled to our own opinions~
I agree
Been looking for the right words, thank you! Her entire character in Birth By Sleep is about her trying to be a good Keyblade Master, and listing to orders given to her by her superior, and still trying to maintain a friendship she cares about. It was never just “friends” to me.
Nenilein even if that were the case I've seen hundreds of Shonen anime series that does that concept better, and it doesn't make you want to turn off your computer/tv screen.
"Aqua translates to subscribe to Just a Pancake in German."
Ok I believe you.
Eh. I prefer Waffles
Applesauce 2⃣.0⃣ , Go away.
get out!
How dare you
Guys, it's Xehanort in disguise! He has a UA-cam channel. We are all doomed! Applesauce is trying to take Just a Pancake as the 13th seeker of darkness. *EVERLASTING DARKNESS.*
Applesauce 2⃣.0⃣ Nah i prefer Bagels
Well it does makes sense for Aqua about friendship.
Nomura knows thi, in this game Aquas darness tells her " your friends only hold you back" and everytime she wonders about that she stops herself. Sounds like the problem is acknowledged very well.
I thought this was a joke, but it actually is serious.
"next year"
N E X T Y E A R
GUYS JUST A PANCAKE IS OUT GOD! SUB TO HIM
BUT IF HE SAYS THAT THE GAME WILL COME OUT NEXT YEAR, IT WILL!
#KH3FOR2019
Bladeofthedark ™ n o
he said so, so its gonna happen!
I can't. You know why? Because of the *DARKNESS* . Ansem would kill me.....
BladeOfTheDark you were right
BladeOfTheDark Yep. He was right, he must be some God.
Wow an actual serious review are you sure you're pancake?
This was really interesting and had just the right amount of comedy. Great job dude
"Aqua means subscribe to Just A Pancake in German"
This is amazing information
When I’m bored I literally just scroll through your channel rewatching these things :,D
How the fuck is it that this is actually a fantastic bit of analysis on these characters

HE KNEW
This just a pancake vid was a little to... Down to earth. What kind of ham sandwhich madness is this?
Kaiser Shounen reminds me of something Cynical would say lol.
No he would say what kind of pig nipple sandwhich madness is this
To be honest the novel fixes this problem too.
And then KHIII came and made Aqua (and Kairi and Lea) a joke.
Lets just hope KH3 does a similar thing next year...
[sad trombone]
“He’s got friendship written all over him”
i never really thought about her as an individual character, moreso just bbs and her role as a whole, but this actually made me think about that. i can't believe i found this kind of content HERE. but it was funny too. 10/10
aqua's real struggle in bbs was the fear of LOSING her friends because they were both going down dark paths.
I would love more videos like these from you. It's funny but not distracting from the point you're trying to get across.
Came for a shitpost, stayed for a well built and in-depth analysis of character design.
I talk like that to people after i break into their homes all the time. Just last week i met this guy Terry. We got along once he put down his shotgun. We're going out for Arbys tomorrow night. He promised not to handcuff me into a chair this time.
Is that why that random stranger knocked on my door and gave me free handcuffs?
Exactly. Aqua, Ventus and Terra's friendship makes sense now right? HAHAHAHAHA
0:26 Well, that line of Ventus' aged well. We all know he's older than even Eraqus and Master Xehanort, technically speaking.
"Hey, guys! Just one singular pancake here."
" Aqua = Subscribe to Just a Pancake "
Sora : Ok I believe you !
This is actually really impresive, youre good at this and I personally would love to see you make more
Wait a justapancake video which actually analyzes the characters if kingdom hearts accurately and not 100% memes... This is heresy to the 572.69th degree
This was actually a really cool video that looked into the many problems this series has. I would love to see more of something like that!
1:55 There’s nothing on my screen, is that normal?
That's the cameo Xion negotiated Just A Pancake for. She promised she wouldn't eat him if he let her have a cameo in the video.
Bilingual and so educational! Thanks Dora the Just A Pankacke Explorer!
And then Kingdom Hearts III comes out and now Sora’s the one who needs more character decelopment
Blue Knight Gaming everyone in the game needs that
Can we get one of these videos with Xion?
I'll admit I can't see past my rose tinted glasses. Please help mr pancake
Kaelan if Just a Pancake releases a video on why Xion sucks it would be released after the third Kingdom Hearts video game gets released next the 29th of next month.
Have you heard of your rival, Not a Croissant?
