I had the amazing experience of going to Beltane at Thornborough last year. To be at a site that old on a holy day was extremely meaningful. I hope to be there someday again. So exciting that the 3 henges are now together again!
yes. tears in my eyes. such a magical landscape. I have Green-Manned there many Beltanes and was handfasted in the northern henge ! glorious news. thank you English Heritage from the bottom of my heart. Hail Brigantia and thanks fellas. PS we Arbor Low guardians lay no claim to "the Stonehenge of the North". Our friends at Stonehenge may however feel free to use "the Arbor Low of the South" if they so wish...
For me there's an obvious connection with the agricultural shows of today. They seem to often fall around the solstices. In some countries I've travelled to, they still use ditches to contain animals. Even large animals like elephants are reluctant to cross a ditch even if they physically could in a pinch.
That's brilliant news. I had learned that the northern henge is in private ownership when I started looking into this particular monument just this weekend. And - "tadaa", it's now in the hands of English Heritage for good! Fabulous. Once they've done the woodland management I really want to come up and visit the place. Nothing remotely like it here in Norfolk. I do have my theory on what henge monuments were for (much less 'whacky' than most) and it will be interesting to put that theory to the Thornbury henges and see the results - once I've downloaded the book for free! Nice. Cheers guys!
Indeed. If France and Italy etc can have cheeses and wines protected and many countries celebrate their cultural events and we even have small local cultural things that often are only 18th and 19th century inventions, eg modern druids, the Appleby horse fair is unique and should be celebrated. It is a great week as well.
I see it as a thing for all generations since it’s conception. Responsibly exploring to define it will just make future generations tasks easier to do what they do with it. The history of what prior generation’s have done there is a wonderful puzzle of the history of US. 😁
Sadly one of biggest Henges in Yorkshire at Ferrybridge had a power station built on it. However there was some excavation in which a early ironage settlement and burials were found and a Chariot Burial which was pretty unusual and usually found in East Yorkshire.
Marveling with you in California. Thanks for taking us on the walk, it does take one’s breath away. This was all built by hand? Like, any animals put to work?
Brilliant! Could you please do a chat on the Giants Ring and Ballynahatty? Another stunning area of Neolithic construction! Can you invite Barrie Hartwell or one of his collaborators!?
Excellent video as ever, thankyou. Have just downloaded the report on TH and settling down to read. I know people speak of the Ure ceremonial landscape, but I wondered if you were aware of the much less famous and sadly largely destroyed Catterick cobble henge and nearby Scorton Cursus? Thank you again
It was only a few days before they announced it that I commented on their Facebook page suggesting their main priority should be securing the 3rd wooded henge that you visited Mike and Rupert
Woods might also be authentic historical use. Imagine: the henge was lined with gypsum to declare our glory to all comers, but pass a couple bad winters, a couple disease outbreaks, a couple less-than-savoury travelers, and a new generation might let the woods grow up on purpose for the "no one would know it's here" effect. Could even keep one looking decent enough for occasional local use while flying under the raiders' radar.
@@ThePrehistoryGuys Has EH employed LIDAR on other neolithics sites in England? If so, has that led to new interpretations of the sites? In asking this I suppose I am wondering if you might do a show about this subject.
Amazing! Thanks for the sneak peek! I can't wait for the lidar and geophys, more data to add to the archaeoastronomy analysis! I don't know why the lunar alignments aren't often mentioned, they are quite clear from the overall orientations: ua-cam.com/video/PmCtsIk7nbA/v-deo.html
The Giza pyramids are upside down with respect to the stars. Also, any pattern between them is by no means perfect. I think it is time this theory waqs put to bed

Hail!
Thank you Dr Jennifer and of course Rupert and Michael 🙏🏼🏴🥃🥃🥃🥃

Wonderful news! Thank you for the update.
Such good news! Thanks so much for covering this. Must visit this place!

I hope they keep most of the trees around the northern henge 🤞
I was there in August. Such a magical place.
Brilliant thanks. Important link to Yorks Showground, and what about the Appleby Horse Fair. Who really knows how long that has been around for.

Thanks! Very nice.
Standing with Stones music should be on CD.
The dog leg arrangement is similar to the 3 stone circles at Minions on bodmin Moor in Cornwall .This layout reminds me very much of Orions belt
What a score for history!

Exciting! The best of news!
So cheering! Thank you.

Great news. Thanks Guys.
I always feel at home in North Yorkshire, even though I hail from the south of this majestic English county.

you mean like digging monkeys ?
Ye olde JCB.

Greta even has her own henge now! Man she’s killing it! 🤪
hello weve been having beltane celebrations there and more recently mabon too, good news for the 3rd henge, x

Why no mention of the Priddy Rings, Somerset. They would appear to have similarities to this sight but they too are under appreciated.
👌🐱🐈👍
Fans will enjoy Rupert's chat on Neils Mysterious World. I did.
My only worry with English Heritage taking control is that they’ll overprice visits just like what they did down at Stonehenge.
It’s open and free. Only an information board
Is there Lidar of the overgrown site?
Hi @cburawa, no LIDAR has been carried out so far but it is high on the EH list of priorities. R

rumor has it he had to forcibly removed from the area by local constables
Please don't boost it up, I live here and Masham tourism is already making things very difficult to go about your daily life :(
