I just acquired a 77 JMP 2203 and had it serviced. Gonna crank it up today! Can’t wait! I also have an 84 JCM 800 2204. Love that amp but excited to hear what the JMP has to offer. I run a simple setup - Tubescreamer, Carbon Copy delay and Crybaby Wah, thorough Marshall 4x12’s with Greenbacks and Vintage 30’s. For guitars I have a Gibson Les Paul Standard, SG Standard, Fender Strat and Charvel San Dimas.
THe JMP2204 ( 50 watt version of this) was my first AMP that I bought brand-new in 1980 when I was 16!. Still have it. I have a few other JMP's as well, one belonged to Adrian Vandenberg ( Whitesnake) back in the day. It's a 4 Hole version, which was modded for more gain and had a line out added to feed into his other marshalls
I have the 2x12 combo version of this amp, a 1978 as well. To my knowledge it’s unmodified, thankfully. But as far as modified ones go, yours definitely sounds the best compared to others I’ve heard. Your playing is amazing, man!🤘🏻
Not a modded guitar, but still quite nice! I tried a few JCM800 2004 and never understood why it didn't sound like I wanted, and now it seems the 2203 it's "the sounds" I always wanted.
I owned one for several years in the 80s and 90s. All the L.A. amp gods wanted to mod it for me. I refused to have it modded because I didn't want to lose the essence of what the amp was. I just used an MXR Distortion Plus, Rat, or an assortment of Boss and Tube Screamers. One of the best sounding Marshalls I ever heard to this day, and it was mine! But I sold it because I didn't want to keep lugging it around to gigs. I got a Boogie 50 Cal Plus Combo around '89 and it delivered the goods for years. You don't need a stack amp to play clubs or even arenas, or even stadiums. It's all how you mic it up. The PA puts it out there.
Definitely! In fact, I’m pretty much going direct with a Kemper these days. Convenience! Lol but I still love these old Marshalls! Very cool you kept it stock - that’s definitely a rarity with these things!
I had a stock JMP 2203 dated from 1977. It needed a boost to get into metal territory (SD-1 did the trick). I sold it earlier this year because it didn't get much use during lockdown. Kinda regret... one day I might pick one up again.
I still have my mid/late 70s 2203 I got in 81. I wish I had known how good they sound with the sd-1 when boss started making them. I finally learned about it around 8 years ago. What a magical pairing.
I have a VHT Deliverance 60watt head (somewhat 2203 based) I gotta get retubed and this is giving me even more motivation. I won't be shredding like you because I can't do that.
@@bvanhoosen I mean the reissue jubilee is good lol 😂 I know the new 100 jubilee can drop down to 50 watts kinda helps the studio plexi would be epic to have
