Hi, sir ... I'm a frequent viewer of your videos. I have some doubts... (1) If I bought SGB from share market, will I get 2.5% interest annually credited to my bank account directly. (2) what will happen,if I don't want to sell my gold after 8 years of lock in period .. I mean can I hold for next 10 to 15 year... As I wish.
Hypothetically, it is possible that after 8 years, there is no considerable appreciation in the gold investment though sgb. In such a case, can one hold sgb for a period longer than 8 years and exit when as per own wish? Or is it mandatory to exit after 8 years irrespective of value of gold investment? Thanks
When we buy SGB via secondary market on the exchange, could you clarify these questions for me? 1. Do we get the 2.5% interest paid in this case? Will it be added to our bank linked with Zerodha or in the Zerodha trading account? 2. How do we know which issue should we buy? 2017, 2018, 2019 or 2020? 3. Can we hold SGB longer than 8 years on the exchange? I'm assuming we will not get 2.5% interest any more, but will continue to receive any capital appreciation in gold. Can you clarify this? Appreciate your content. Thanks,
@@pranjalkamra I have one doubt sir if I take SGB in demat account then can I sell it to rbi or I have to compulsory sell it in stock market because you if i sell it to rbi then it will be no LTGC?? Waiting for reply please help.

Problems with SGB, which are not mentioned in this video - 1. One can buy gold for penny amount (like 100-200 rs) in digital mode while in SGB minimum 1gm has to be bought i.e. approx Rs. 5000 2. Both physical and digital gold can be held for lifetime and it has no maturity whereas SGB has a fixed maturity period. So say even if after 8 years gold prices are low you have to redeem your bonds unlike in case of Physical and Digital Gold. 3. Capital Gain Exemption is not available if bonds are purchased from open market.
If you HOLD any SHARE or any asset for 3 years or more then you are eligible for TAX resumption ...Due to inflation Secondly SGB is A SCAM All the gold money will be LOOTED by Indian Govt .... The LOSS generated by this GOLD SCAM will be BEARED By general public ....like you & me How can Govt ... Give perfect prediction of gold price on 2028 (8 years maturity period)...... While gold price is controlled by AUPPLY & DEMAND Thirdly How can A govt can DO Profit business with public money INSTEAD of GOVERNANCE ?????
Point 3 is wrong... If u hold that sgb till maturity.. Then u will get exemption for long term capital gain.. It doesn't matter where you have bought that sgb...
One disadvantage or thing to note is when you buy sgb from market, then you will get interest on the original purchase amount.. Example Original buyer purchase sgb - 3500 for 1 gram in 2018 Current value - 5000 per gram Original buyer sold sgb in market to second buyer - 4500 per gram Second buyer will get interest on sgb on 3500.. Not 4500

Waao! In past, I have researched about it in very depth but never heard of this technique of buying from stock market and selling to RBI. Thanks bro, Great Help!
Question: You suggested to buy from market and not from fresh issue 1, If I buy from stock market, will I get interest component of 2.5%? 2. If I buy 4 year old SBG which will mature in 4 years, will be returns be tax free? 3. what is the process of redemption after 5 years, can we redeem any time with RBI after 5 years or for that also there are fixed dates and rates?
Great video as usual. One point though. 2.5% interest is calculated based on the bond issue price and not on the price you purchase from secondary market . So do consider that when you buy SGB from secondary market.
If one is buying SGB in secondary market at a price cheaper than the original issue price by RBI, won't it be an added benefit to receive 2.5% interest at the issue price (which was higher)? :)
Thank you for the video Pranjal. Following are my questions for Q&A session: 1) Let us say, I wish to invest 80 thousand in SGB but I do not want to hold entire 80 thousand for 8 years. For example, I would like to sell 10 thousand at the end of first year after my purchase, another 10 thousand at the end of second year and so on till 8th year. In that case i think its better to buy 8 SGBs which will get redeemed in those years so that i dont have to pay any tax. Am I right? 2) How to add a nominee for the SGB bought through Zerodha? How will my nominee claim SGB? 3) After purchasing SGB from zerodha, will I get a certificate from RBI about my purchase? Otherwise, how will RBI come to know that SGB has changed hands and in which account that 2.5% interest has to be deposited? 4) How to redeem the SGB at the end of its period when it's bought through Zerodha? Does the money automatically get credited to Zerodha account or is there any process for redemption?
Dear Pranjal, Request you to make video on best option SGB. 1. How to buy from zerodha 2. When we buy from exchange will there be lock in transferred along with purchase of sgb. 3. Does one still gets interest. 4. What are tax implecations Regards, Srinivasan.

Sovereign Gold Bond in it self is a digital gold. Difference is that It is issued by RBI on behalf of GOI and hence it is more secured than any other digital gold offer by other entities. Further to it as Pranjal told it gives to 2.5% interest p.a on your initial investment.

@pranjal - can we buy SGB in stock market and also keep it for 8 years. Or 2015 SGB bought in 2020 in stock market can be bought at discount but need to be sold in 2023 forcefully (2015+8) .Can we keep SGBs for 15 , 20 years or say lifetime
thanks Pranjal ... very nicely explained. After seeing this vlog I've another question coming in my mind. Do we have similar option with Silver as well ?
one disadvantage with Bond that i see is, after the redemption period your bond liquidifies irrespective of whatever the rate is at that time. you do not have an option to wait till the prices surge unlike physical gold Hope my understanding is correct
Good explanation. However, there is a catch in SGB investing. We know Gold price moves in cycles. What happens if an investor buys when the price is very high, like it is now, and at the time of maturity, unfortunately if the price is very low, the investor will get the lower amount. He may have some respite by reinvesting the maturity proceeds in another SGB though. because SGBs are not open ended, but rather are like closed end funds, investing in them carry this risk (just like investing in equities have market risk, or investing in bonds has reinvestment and interest rate risk).
"An excellent breakdown of bonds! This video brilliantly explains what bonds are and offers valuable insights into investing in them. Whether you're a beginner or experienced investor, this is a must-watch to understand the nuances of bond investments. Well-presented and informative!"
Sir, If we purchase from the secondary market, will we get tax exemption on capital gain post maturity similar to purchasing from the primary market? If the above is not true how will be the taxation? Thanks
Capital Gains from SGB sold after 5 years back to the RBI is NOT taxable, as described in the video. Tax liability arises only is it is sold in the secondary market before 5 years.
great video sir, have one question. buy from market and sell to RBI after maturity . how RBI will buy if we purchase from stock market? is it something like our holding will mature after 8 years without selling it?
Very informative video sir.. couple of questions on purchase from secondary market. Firstly, will maturity date of bond be completed 8 years after my purchase or after the initial purchase. Secondly, what about the 2.5 percent interest and its amount calculation. Will I get the interest on the amount at which I purchased or at price at which it was purchased initially.

(2) What happens on the date of maturity of my SGB? Will the money directly get credited to my bank account or do i have to sell them via demat account? (3) Is there a Capital Gain tax if have bought a SGB with 2 yrs remaining to mature?

Great content as always 👍 Is it a simple process to redeem SGB bought from share market with RBI? How to know the years remaining in 8 yr term of SGB bought from share market?
Hi Pranjal, there are still doubts if the redemption after maturity period of 8 years, for SGB stocks purchased through secondary markets, is tax-free. I asked this question to SGB support team and they said this matter is still under investigation. So, in my view this should be checked before buying SGBs from stock market. Their response was a bit confusing, so please correct me if I am wrong here!
Same query..... also, what will be the lock in period if we purchase it through stock market.... I mean the 8 years will be from the date we have purchased from the stock market or 8 years of that tranche from which the seller purchased it....
I would still personally prefer physical gold coins because that is the highest liquid asset in an emergency situation and the best emergency fund one can have in my knowledge
Hi pranjal, just like you explained about SGBs. Please also suggest what is the best way of buying Silver digitally ??? Is there exists a govt scheme like SGB for Silver ??

Please advice how to choose the best SGB considering expiry and discount as mentioned in last in your video. As some of the SGB dont seem to be actively traded.

One more things which is rare if government becomes moneyless like Zimbabwe than only physical gold will helpful gold bonds becomes paper than
thanks Pranjal ... very nicely explained. After seeing this vlog I've another question coming in my mind. Do we have similar option with Silver as well ?
Aapko maine apna guru man liya hai main ek din bahut bada krunga aapke ashirvad se....
one disadvantage with Bond that i see is, after the redemption period your bond liquidifies irrespective of whatever the rate is at that time. you do not have an option to wait till the prices surge unlike physical gold
Hope my understanding is correct
Bhai 8 saal phle gold ka price dekh tab tu 1-2rs ke liye rona chhor dega
You can invest ur amount in some new sgb issue
Good explanation. However, there is a catch in SGB investing. We know Gold price moves in cycles. What happens if an investor buys when the price is very high, like it is now, and at the time of maturity, unfortunately if the price is very low, the investor will get the lower amount. He may have some respite by reinvesting the maturity proceeds in another SGB though. because SGBs are not open ended, but rather are like closed end funds, investing in them carry this risk (just like investing in equities have market risk, or investing in bonds has reinvestment and interest rate risk).
Great sir....wait for Flexi cap category analysis

Sir,
If we purchase from the secondary market, will we get tax exemption on capital gain post maturity similar to purchasing from the primary market?
If the above is not true how will be the taxation?
Thanks
Capital Gains from SGB sold after 5 years back to the RBI is NOT taxable, as described in the video. Tax liability arises only is it is sold in the secondary market before 5 years.
Sir,
What will be the tax implications when we buy SGB from stock market and sell it to:
i) RBI
ii) STOCK MARKET ITSELF AFTER SOME TIME
great video sir, have one question. buy from market and sell to RBI after maturity . how RBI will buy if we purchase from stock market? is it something like our holding will mature after 8 years without selling it?
Sir if we buy SBG from demet account then how we can sell to rbi after 5 yrs
Sir your all videos are very informative and knowledgeable and your explaining manners are excellent. Thank you Sir. 👌👌🙏🙏

This is important
If you are buying SGB from Market, you have to pay Capital Gain tax in any case. Because SGB is Tax free only when it is held for a period of 8 years.
People are saying he is fast but I am watching him on 2x s😀😀
Great info.. One question : what's the procedure of redeeming an sgb bought through the market via rbi like you recommend
Same query
Same query.
Same
Same question
Same query..... also, what will be the lock in period if we purchase it through stock market.... I mean the 8 years will be from the date we have purchased from the stock market or 8 years of that tranche from which the seller purchased it....
I would still personally prefer physical gold coins because that is the highest liquid asset in an emergency situation and the best emergency fund one can have in my knowledge
