You can blame GM US for that. They were always too scared to sell the standard model Holdens in the US and UK because they thought the cars would steal sales from other GM makes. Fantastic realistic review. I agree, I bought the Lexus GS F here in the states. I love it, best car I have ever owned, and I have had modern Audis, Mercedes, and a Corvette Grand Sport. The Lexus is truly special, and makes me feel grateful that I own her.
+Sgt. Gunny sadly I could never afford one. I'd probably be able to go about as high as an SSV with the six speed. Which is not a bad thing. A four door family sedan with a 6.2 litre N/A V8 is still pretty impressive in my books.
The Lexus is way better equipped and is actually a premium/luxury car, unlike the re-badged Holden. Not hating on the Aussie, it's just that it's a poor comparison.
I'm surprised the VXR8's exhaust is so hushed. I would have assumed it would sound like a monster coming to eat your family, even moreso than the ZL1 that that engine came out of.

Cheaper, more powerful and faster than the Lexus, and looks a LOT more fun too - the VXR8 is the clear winner. Plus in the hands of a more capable/aggressive driver, I bet it would lap even faster still.
While waiting for a new sports extractor to be fitted in my Nissan I noticed a skip bin full of new and complete exhaust systems, asked the manager what was wrong with them and he said nothing is wrong, they are the original exhaust from Holden V8 cars because owners replace them with aftermarket performance exhaust asap. It would be interesting to review both cars with performance exhaust systems but I have a suspicion the Lexus may already have a fine system and not benefit as much as the Holden. Totally agree with the conclusion to this road test though. Good review.
"Classy looks" is a subjective comment. I think many people would say the Holden is better-looking than the Lexus. As to the handling...well, if you can actually drive you can control this car quite easily. The handling of all VF series Commodores is right up there with the finest cars in the world. Holden chassis engineers were world-renowned for their abilities. Sure, the Lexus has a more modern powerplant and more hi-tech goodies but if you want a car that can trounce most anything else on the road with ease... a car built tough to withstand outback conditions and not have to pay a huge amount of money as you would for the Lexus then it must be the Holden as first pick every time.

The GS f does not come with a Torsen. It comes standard with a TVD and it even says so in the car! Still, I'm not surprised it completed the lap 1.5 seconds ahead of the RC F.

+Intensive +PT111111 Its not like Lexus have a shortage of cash Toyota, one of the most profitable care companies, could have given them some more money to play with and they could have engineered the v10 engine into a gs body. The current v8 is 5.0 liters and the v10 is 4.3 so theoretically it would fit under that hood just saying. :)
Ian Doesn't matter how much money they got. For that class of car, V10 will never pass the emission law and I don't think they want to cheat like VW. Plus it's a luxo sedan. Why would they want to put a high revving V10 in it?
The fact that that the Commodore is no longer made while the Lexus still is running off the production line means spare parts for the Commodore won't be necessarily be cheaper than those found on the Lexus.
thats the thing when you have the money you wouldnt mind spending it on quality, but if you dont mind your door handles loosening and other minor manufacturing issues, you cant beat a holden, My uncles 08 Holden SS had a rusted out radiator in just under 6 years...after having holdens for over 20 years he know wants to move up to a Lexus!! Smart Man!!
For that Holden fans, enjoy it while you can because what the video failed to mention is that Holden will stop making cars by next year, so that VXR8 will become somewhat a collector's item.
Interesting comparison but if you are talking a track comparison and bang for your buck the “Vauxhall” (Holden) is the clear winner. These 2 cars are both built with a completely different philosophy however and appeal to two different types of buyers. Cars aren’t always about practicality but how they make you feel and I suspect if you are drawn to either one of these cars for their quite different attributes you would be happy with your purchase.
6.2 liter supercharged almost 600 hp to the Lexus natural aspirated 471 hp and its BARLEY a second faster ? Even with OVER 100 more HP it cant outrun the Lexus. Testament to great chassis development in the Lexus. Lexus GSF is the winner. Beautiful and well engineered sedan. High tech with Lexus Luxury with great performance. The Vauxhall saving grace is just a big engine where the Lexus is the COMPLETE package. " Lexus doesn't have much high performance history " Wrong Lexus has produced the ISF, LFA, RCF, now this GSF. Thats more then enough cars to show Lexus is serious about performance. Thats more high performance cars then Ininiti and Acura.
Look, to be fair to traditional naturally aspirated V8 Holdens, someone should drop that Lexus V8 in the 1990s Toyota Lexcen (in addition to parts from the HSV parts bin) and call it a day. The fact that 1990s Lexcen weighs only 1340 kg puts it on par with modern day V8 supercars.
Ok so old matey reviewing the cars didn't really talk about the technology in either cars. It sounds like you guys don't get all the features of our GTS in the Vauxhall version? The suspension has an extra setting, as well as the bi-modal exhaust, heads up, lane departure, collision avoidance, blind side, torque vectoring, automatic self parking as well as the standard heated seats etc.The GTS is around 1930kgs.
A second faster sadly does not make up for the difference in refinement, workmanship, reliability, comfort, technology in which the Lexus shines in comparison to a Vauxhall/Holden/Opel or whatever it's actually called.
+Nik Brudar True, though thanks to the price difference, I think I'd rather have the bonkers VXR8. Mind you, I'd have an F-type R or an Alfa Giulia QV over either.
appelpower1 the delay may sort some things out and prevent future recalls, so let's wait patiently. I was probing through our used car marketand saw some 159s in mint condition and low mileage for very attractive prices... I wonder why such a car with 200hp and in such condition is prices so relatively low ... As I've heard Alfa's reliability has improved lately, so it couldn't be that..
Nik Brudar I sincerely hope it's just quality checks, not problems with capacity on Fiat's part. It's merely an image problem. Younger 159s (that includes the 1,75 turbo with 200 bhp, the one you mentioned) are quite reliable, but people don't trust them. As such, you can get a fast, young, well-equipped and pretty Alfa estate with low mileage for just 10 grand. It's great value, as long as you don't mind the relatively cramped back seats and relatively small boot.
Lexus sports sedans, expensive as hell yet continuously beaten in speed/handling by AMGs, M5, CTS-V and now add a Holden HSV into the mix. Vauxhall VXR8 for the win, no competition.
You do realize that Lexus NEVER benchmarked their cars against any other model. It was meant to deliver Lexus reliability while still be capable at a track. Tell me how many races you've won with an AMG, M5 or CTSV? Folks who drive these cars including myself daily them. I would rather have a reliable machine that never breaks but can be fun on track. To win races, I have a track car. Common sense.
The Holden is dead in the water next year when GM stops manufacturing vehicles in Australia. The Holden Commodore was the best seller in Australia for many years but has been overtaken by the humble Toyota Corolla. I think Lexus will be around a little longer than Holden, and in any case I know which one of these two I would have.
The Chevy SS and this HSV GTS (Vauxhall VXR8 if you want to call it that) are based on the same chassis and platform structure of a Holden VF Commodore. The Chevy SS is however based on the Commodore SS-V Redline whereas the HSV GTS is a factory tuned version of the Commodore by Walkinshaw Performance.
A supercharger that doesn't kick in till 3000rpm??!!! Every and any turbo will beat that...so why supercharge it rather than strap a turbo to it? So all the extra power, massively bigger engine and torque led to a 1 second difference, perhaps Holden should have stuck to a turbo as they don't seem to know what a supercharger is!
Holden made a point of not using turbos ever since they used six cylinder Nissan engines in the 80s with turbo that could beat their stock V8 models. Think it hurt the pride. Ever since then supercharger only, even when Ford was dominating six cylinder performance models with turbo, Holden still only supercharged.
Will take the Vauxhall VXR8 over that Lexus. The only American powered car I like beside SRT Viper and the Challenger Hellcat. To be honest, Vauxhall build better American powered sedans than Cadillac, the Vauxhall is definitely my favorite sedan beside German sedans. What's better than a LSA+ Limited slip diff+ Manual+ RWD? (Although this got an auto). Get over it, Lexus is the looser, too many technologies that aren't gaining speed. Just add a LSD. Is that difficult? Why always have to be a ricer? The TVS won't get the car any faster but seems much slippery than the RCF, maybe more weight transferred? Anyway, can't beat Vauxhall's higher cornering speed and much quicker acceleration. This is how you lose 1 second :P
Pascal...I agree with your comment but this car was not built in the UK by Vauxhall. It was built in the Holden factory in South Australia because it is really a Holden Commodore.
@@tonypasby8287 Tony...really! One man's meat and all that. The current v8 is 5.0 liters and the v10 is 4.3 so theoretically it would fit under that hood just saying. :)
+Ian Bugatti doesn't matter every company is its own, toyota also has scion.
Ian Doesn't matter how much money they got. For that class of car, V10 will never pass the emission law and I don't think they want to cheat like VW. Plus it's a luxo sedan. Why would they want to put a high revving V10 in it?
The fact that that the Commodore is no longer made while the Lexus still is running off the production line means spare parts for the Commodore won't be necessarily be cheaper than those found on the Lexus.
thats the thing when you have the money you wouldnt mind spending it on
quality, but if you dont mind your door handles loosening and other
minor manufacturing issues, you cant beat a holden, My uncles 08 Holden
SS had
a rusted out radiator in just under 6 years...after having holdens for over 20 years he know
wants to move up to a Lexus!!
What about the GS-F vs the BMW M5? Almost certainly the Lexus would win.
Can't go wrong with lexus , too bad i own a kia..
CarEnthusias Ber You cant. Lexus qualities are unbeatable.. now to their usual qualities they have high performance
Love lexus
+Toyota4Life this is holden were talking about here always were a BOAT ON WHEELS
+Toyota4Life It did outrun the Lexus though?
Good review!
dont like sorry we need focus rs vs audi rs3 plz
👍
+Ayrton Atif yeahhhh
+Noor Dada I'll answer you right now: focus is shit
Wait up. If you take the limiter of a Vauxhall VXR8, it can go 195 mph? Just wondering.
205 mph.
In Australia, Holden GTS is more expensive than gsf
No it's not, The HSV GTS is $94k and the Lexus GS-F is $123k in AUD.
He forgot to mention the Lexus RCF for the performance Lexus'
japanese V8 = win
Much rather the VXR8. Would get the manual one they do though
+AdzSONLINE Correct, comes in manual and is easily tuneable
anyusernamesleftest Yeah saw an after marked exhaust with valve control so that would be a decent addition I suppose
I'll take a Holden any day or the most Luxury Lexus...
A good review indeed!
he almost hits the curb really hard at 2:46
I take Holden any time over Lexus. fewer things to go wrong on it.
both very very cool.
6.2 v8+ super charge vs 5.0 v8. What do you expect?
+Rong Q expected more than 1 second...especially of how loaded the gs f is.
doesn't sound like much but 1 second over a relatively small track is more substantial then your making it out to be. Also, they are similar weight.
I’ll have the Hsv with manual box please
A second faster sadly does not make up for the difference in refinement, workmanship, reliability, comfort, technology in which the Lexus shines in comparison to a Vauxhall/Holden/Opel or whatever it's actually called.
+Nik Brudar True, though thanks to the price difference, I think I'd rather have the bonkers VXR8. Mind you, I'd have an F-type R or an Alfa Giulia QV over either.
appelpower1 I'd undoubtedly pick a Lexus out of these two, but the Giulia is indeed more sexy and 510hp sounds alluring!
Nik Brudar Indeed, I can't wait for the Giulia. Sadly, it's been delayed. That's not a good sign.
appelpower1 the delay may sort some things out and prevent future recalls, so let's wait patiently.
You could tell which one is more fun to drive and so many things you can do for even more fun vxr8 leave the lex for the wife
Long life Lexus.
The Holden is dead in the water next year when GM stops manufacturing vehicles in Australia. The Holden Commodore was the best seller in Australia for many years but has been overtaken by the humble Toyota Corolla. I think Lexus will be around a little longer than Holden, and in any case I know which one of these two I would have.
why don't both car start from 0 mph? why they have to be in speed to began the race?
+Boss Bic good point!
is the Vauxhall the chevy ss in america? I swear they almost look identical
Chris. W really?
Chris. W that's cool man I didn't know that thanks for the info
Different Animals entirely, once’s a sports Saloon the other is a posh Car than can go fast if you wan to, my money would go on the Holden....😎
The vaxhaul reminds me of the Pontiac g8
The best fast sedan. Looks perfect, sounds the best of all. Will outlast Germans too.
what's about audi s6?
The Lexus engine runs so smooth, it sounds a bit artificial, like a video game V8. I think Lexus could have put a bit of barking in there ...
After market exhaust will easily do the trick.
Holden was drifting..should be 3 secs quicker
Value for money is the GTS.
RIP Holden 😢
50k + for that corsa they should be put before the European court for robbery.
"Lexus is low-key"... WHAT? There's no curreny produciton Lexus model that is anything like low-key!
Its lively
The GS F has Torque-vectoring diff, not torsen... what a beginner
It's not the diff, it's the brakes that do the torque vectoring
@@fredoes In vehicles with open diff, the brakes do the vectoring, with a torque vectoring diff - it is the diff that does the vectoring!
Lexus has changed
OHV SC vs DOHC
This is how you lose 1 second :P
the Vauxhall VXR8 is sold as a Chevy SS minus the supercharger in the US.
How about the diff? I heard VXR8 uses a 40% side to side lock LSD
+NISMO N ATTACK 東瀛戰神 R34 Z TUNE AHAHAHAHAHAHA
damefaso ???
Pascal...I agree with your comment but this car was not built in the UK by Vauxhall. It was built in the Holden factory in South Australia because it is really a Holden Commodore.
That Vauxhall looks Repulsive next to the Lexus. the lexus looks Sexy.
Actually its the lexus that looks repulsive.
holdenls1ssz You need to get your eyes tested fella. should have gone to specsavers springs to mind. comparing that hideous Griffin to that Lexus?
@@tonypasby8287 Tony...really! One man's meat and all that. Personally I think the Lexus looks like a Camry with a nose job (and in many ways it is just that because I believe the basic platform is shared between those two models). The Holden looks great and if you were to buy the luxury model (the "Caprice", not available in the UK) it would look just fantastic. Horses for courses mate...no need to name call and suggest that eyes need testing!
Naah not much interested in these two...
+Can Tavukçuoğlu I am interested in the Vauxhall/Holden
+Yin Cheung Lau (Camera Geek) Better be quick because by next year, Holden will stop making that car.
+Can Tavukçuoğlu but you took your time to watch the video and post a comment which make you a fucking loser!!
Boss Bic Ok
+Can Tavukçuoğlu lmao the loser reply. loser!!
What a cop out , not as charismatic , cheaper and quicker.
who.drives a car like this in real life - nobody
why do Lexus make boy racer cars and then skimp on the horsepower.
Skimp? 467hp is not enough now? What races have you won so far in whatever you drive?
Who wants a glorified Toyota Camry though? They’re such grandma cars
Lexus. "Classy looks"..?
It's still a Toyota...lolz...with a V8...I may go there then...
Vauxhall, really??? As relevant as comparing a car and a scooter
Lexus are just incapable of producing an attractive car.
+Fart Fast Mcspeed I respectfully disagree.
The LFA is a thing so it is an irrefutable fact that your opinion is wrong.
+Ethanmeister Like most You Tube commenters your understanding of the word "opinion" is non-existent.
+disgraceland uk I think they understand. In fact, I think they can see a biased opinion coming from a mile away.
+PT111111 Biased is obviously another word they don't understand then.
plastic crap for ones who couldnt afford real supercar by BMW/Merc/Audi.
And also what is the price of M5
+Turbo Snail I swear it's more like £80k
+Turbo Snail no way it is too expensive than I thought
+Turbo Snail ı am not expert could someone help about on road price is 72k£ or what
content.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/digital/mobile-offers/retail-finance-offers?sbId=51
+TheFunkyair Yeah it's around 74k but if you add options it'll probably end up around 80k
Lexus models always look shit. Their designers are just hopelessly outmatched by the Germans. Who would by this over an M5?
Can you stop reviewing 2 cars at once. I couldn’t give a toss about the Lexus. Sure many people feel the same about the Vauxhall. Stop it
So many salty Toyota fans.
LMFAO.. Comparing a tractor technology to a Lexus.seriously
lol!!! The engine is not as "charismatic" wtf does that mean? What a load of dog tripe! The performance difference is obvious by his comments while driving the car and the lap time.
lol 'charismatic engine' lolol
Lexus cars are 100% meh.
Just like toyota.
They are just... good cars. not great, but not bad, just good cars.
They look... fine, and they just are good but nothing special, they're so boring.
they are Reliable
fawaz1165
yeah, but they're still boring
+ShroomWalrus heyyy, just like the 86,supra,the mr2,the celica they were all boring cars, what a moron,go buy an audi/vw diesel.
JamesPaolo Rodriguez
Those are all cars from the _past_
And i don't want a german lie
JamesPaolo Rodriguez
Wow that's one car. one.
In general these cars are quite boring in look, character, etc.
