    My Mom and her gentleman friend weren't married, but were together for almost 50 years. (My Dad passed when I was a teen. She worked with this man for many years) They lived in separate houses, and got together when they felt like it. They traveled together thru the USA and parts of Europe. Watching them, it seemed to be the more perfect relationship. I admired them the older I got. I lost myself when I got married. His life and likes became mine. When he passed away (many years back) I realized I could be 'myself' again. I applaud you two for making this work. Blessings to you both.

    I love everything about this and couldn’t agree more. I lost myself in my marriage and in the end, 36yrs later, I found myself divorced and starting over at the age of 63. I rediscovered myself and I’m enjoying life for the first time. You and Alex are such a great example of how to live “happily ever after”. Much love to you both ❤️💙😘

    Helena you have the kind of relationship with your husband that I desire if I am ever in a relationship again. I am 53 and have had several long term relationships. With two of them I felt I lost myself. I have been single for the past 6 years and I love my freedom and independence and do not ever want to sacrifice that again. I have started taking solo trips and they can be so much fun. I have one planned for next month at Thanksgiving. Being alone for the past several years I have learned what I want in life and what truly makes me happy. You have time to self reflect more when you are alone and I feel I am not lonely. I have my 2 dogs and a handful of friends that fill my cup. Thanks for sharing!

    I love that you talk about not putting pressure on one another to be each other's source of happiness. It is so so easy to fall into that in a relationship! It is So Imperative for a healthy relationship to realize that you are responsible for your own happiness. The relationship gets to add to that of course ❤ but true peace and happiness in life must come from within. You both are such a beautiful example of a strong and healthy marriage! I especially Love that what you share inspires me to not put myself or my marriage inside the confines of societal "norms". My husband and I both often travel solo, usually to visit family/friends who live in different states, and we always love that time apart! We also absolutely love to travel together, it is one of our favorite things to do together. 💕 It is so cool that you and Alex respect each other's different lifestyle preferences while still maintaining such a beautiful relationship! 💗

    Yesss. No need to not lose your own life. Even if can’t travel on your own (due to having little children), it’s amazing to take turns to go to a coffee shop on your own. Take walks, take a full alone self care day. Then just have a full family today together on Sundays. Feels great and you don’t lose yourself, even with children and a partner.

    I'm so glad I came across your channel Helena. I've been married to my soulmate for 5 years, together for 10, known each other for 15. He's my dream guy, as you said about your lovely husband. I recently took 5 weeks to travel across Europe by myself and was so pleasently surprised, it was a magical experience and I feel so connected to myself right now. Your words resonate with me so much, it's so important to give each other space and grow as a person.

    You get to fall in love with each other over and over because you aren't tripping over each other every day. Some of the happiest couples I know are in committed marriages but chose to have separate residences. Societal norms are bs. Follow your bliss.

    ❤love this! It’s so crazy how society, religion, family members try and tell you how to live. You have to figure out what is best for you. I’m a long distance mom, have a boyfriend of 5 years and live on my own. Doesn’t make sense to others but that’s okay. Life can sometimes take turns and twists and we do our best!

    Nice to see Estonia in the video 😊 I agree that its good to be happy by yourself and not hold back your dreams. We also like to have solo trips. But I wouldn't like to be away for longer than a week from my family or have my husband away regularly. And couldn't see how it could work for family with children. I think people would srart to live too separate lives and grow apart. But short solo trips are a breath of fresh air 🙌

    It's all personal preferences and boundaries. To me :
    1.Traveling alone with friends is ok and healthy for the balance between romantic relationships and friendships
    2. Traveling alone with family. Absolutely
    3. Traveling alone meaning solo...hell no. I mean why? Do you need a break, is there a problem that bothers you? This screams avoidant personality.
    4. Traveling for work , yes that's normal but it depends how often and for how long. This is tricky as it may ruin your relationship if you are not on the same page for this. I personally don't want to travel more than 10% and want to be around my SO.
    5. Traveling with male best friends, male friends or exes.....absolutely NO. This is where my boundaries stop. I don't care about BS like we are just friends and being called insecure or controlling. I respect my SO and won't put her in this situation. This is not about trust issues, but rather respect.

    • @helenawoods
      @helenawoods  8 місяців тому +5

      It IS about personal preferences. Which is interesting you note that because you also assume that solo travelers have an avoident attachment style. 👀Both my husband and I are secure attachment. And FYI. Before I met him, I was anxious attachment. Not everyone needs a break or is having problems when they want to travel alone. Maybe other people in the world are just...not like you 🙃

      Your sympathy is inappropriate here, perhaps it's a projection of how you'd feel if you were me? I love that Helena's going out and pursuing her dreams, like I say in the video as long as she's away no more than 2 weeks at a time I'm perfectly content with having the place to myself at home.

    Yes! Yes! Yes!!! It is sooo refreshing to hear someone speak in this way about such a seemingly uncommon style of relationship. My partner and I are going on 5 years together and have never lived together and don't have any plans to do so. I frequently get inspired to go for short road trips or adventures into nature and never feel obligated to include him - I really love doing these things on my own and having that sacred self time. We get together when we are both inspired to, and there is never any expectation or pressure from either of us. It's so free, open, loving, passionate, and importantly - FUN! We've created a dynamic not as traditional as most but it is supportive, nourishing, so respectful and allows for full self-expression and exploration! 🩷
