It came out of nowhere and doesn't really fit. They didn't have any magical stuff before, it just seems weird to suddenly add this.

I think Shadow High would have been the perfect place to introduce these because of everyone going to the school or having gone to that school all have magical skin color, and yeah keep it in a garden, or actually introduce magic through a random book. Heck the magic book could have fallen out of the lock with the crystal. Just product placement is all this episode was.

rainbow high is the best doll line ever,, i don't want to see it discontinued either,, i'm not happy about the slime thing but its gonna happen anyways so i'm trying to remain positive,,lets see what happens.. complaining right from the get go won't do any good to rainbow high ..
I think the reason Rainbow High is beginning to skew to a younger audience has mostly to do with MGA bringing Bratz back. They probably want to re-establish Bratz as the doll for the "Older crowd" while steering RH and LOL towards younger kids, which, for me personally, is super dissapointing, since I actually liked Rainbow High better than Bratz. The in-set eyes, wider bodies and very detailed clothing was LEAGUES above what Bratz, Monster High and Barbie were doing, so it's sad to see it go out like this.
As much as I love Bratz, Rainbow High was in some ways a step up.
Honestly is so clear to me that Mga is shaking on their boots on monster high being around again, that's happening since shadow high release and the way they're taking things just confirms for me, the pets, the single outfit with character focus accessories, the more childish appealing and all that, wich is a shame, rh didn't needed to do that bc we love it for the fashion just like mh don't need the fashion bc they have the charisma, but i think companies don't see how all of them can coexist

If they wanted to bring pets into this franchise why not just do regular pets and explore pet fashion not only would it fit the show better but it would’ve been a good call back to Lalaloopsy where each character had a pet based on their personality. Why would Mga ever touch these pets again after the controversy and lawsuit they caused also these things come out of nowhere and don’t fit the rainbow high world it’s supposed to be a grounded show about students at a fashion school I’m not saying fantasy is bad but 90% of kids media is fantasy there are some good kids shows without a lot fantasy Barbie(sometimes), bratz, littlest pet shop, Polly poket (2010s) strawberry shortcake, and shopkins to name a few. These pets in rainbow high feel pointless to me

To be honest, I’m actually somewhat excited for the rebrand. Don’t get me wrong, I love the current Rainbow/Shadow High dolls and I get that some people are worried that this rebrand could do more harm than good, but I feel like these could somehow sell well with younger children since Iguess slime is getting popular again (?). Idk, I’m just one of those people that are always up for new things and aren’t to quick to judge😅

I think it's just they are personally happy about the rebrand and it makes sense considering kids love slime and they want kids to buy the dolls but it's also okay for people to not like it as well. I personally think it's smart if their goal is to get more kids interested and the dolls themselves aside from the slime actually still look adorable and I'm excited for that

13:07 You made great points. I'm in total agreement with you about they could have used this time to bring in Lily Cheng, more diversity, new characters, SH S3 characters into the storylines. They could have also used this time to create dolls for Emerald McNabb, Delfina, Angelina, and Franscisca. Next year will be the first time that I won't be looking forward to any RH doll releases based on recent leaks. They're just not interesting enough for me. Things are not shaping up to be good for RH.😢

Sunny was working on an animated kawaii show so why not put the slime toys in there and show the cartoon in an expo episode? The one we were shown looks like Sunny anyway so it could've been part of a toyline she had produced as part of the cartoon's merch. Similar to Littlest Pet Shop and Winx's Love&Pet.
My 7 year old thought this was confusing and random. My 5 year old wasn't impressed. 🙃
I think it's kinda funny that Rainbow and Shadow High are trying to replicate Monster High's success when they obviously don't appeal to the same audience. Monster High is heavily character focused, all designs are extremely catered to a single character which translates well to reusing characters and themed lines... R/SH are very loose with the characters but that leads to having different characters every line with different styles and themes, especially with the options of mixing and matching with MH has never catered towards.
The extra accessories, the one character focused outfit, pets and edgier fashion with SH... they've been mimicking instead of focusing on what they do good.
I watch the cartoon and enjoy it as tacky campy fun but it is just a extented toy commercial ( MH was once now more of a real show) so just throwing stuff in to promote a new toy seems about right . Continuity and context aren’t a real concern for the intended market .I think the child audience will think slime is fun and ask parents to buy.

I agree it didn't seem to happen organically in the story, it could have been a whole ep dedicated to the main girls searching through the school for some old legend like the door to Storywood or something after being suspicious about the new girl who says she comes from the town of Storywood. Then have the poopsie creatures like the fairy creatures in Ever After High. It would at least kind of make sense, more than an old abandoned locker spitting out a crystal lol.
Although slime as a gimmick isn't totally out of nowhere, Barbie is also bringing it back and they're trying to compete directly with those toys imo. They stopped setting trends and are trying to follow them instead

I don't mind the pet gimmick, it's the slime I'm not looking forward to.
I never liked the Poopsie Slime line (especially when the toys are literally shaped like crap & some were runny looking 🤢). I like the designs of Sparkly Critters & Cutie Tooties figurines, but their designs should never be associated with slime.
Im staying positive and waiting to see where this takes rh, it cld b a really good thing, maybe some diff characters who are magical and from there, i can imagine the characters and the clothing!❤
I think they're now making it more attracting to children due to them adding cute animals in it.

I feel like off the bat combining a fashion doll series thats been just a fashion series only being mixed with something literally called POOPSIE slime is already a bad sign in itself. Heck, mixing slime and fashion isn't a good idea, slime ans fabric don't mix.
But as a story writer (thought only a hobbyist for now), hearing they introduced them through a LOCKER with NO FURTHER EXPLANATION hurts. That's not even mysterious that's just lazy writing. They didn't even want to try to make it seem like it was something hidden all along, it just got thrown in. That's okay if its something minor, but for something like this you absolutely need at least some lore to go off of.

Oh my god this is actually happening for a doll line that came out in 2020 and rainbow high is re-branding itself That’s kind of awesome but what about the shadow high dolls are they going to be making more of them where is this rainbow high rebranding it’s all going to be in the future I’m excited we’re just gonna go forward so this into spring 2024 I can’t wait

I'm really worried for Rainbow High. I think it's weird to make these pets real creatures. There are better ideas than this. If season 5 is going to have these magical pets, then Im going to be disappointed. I think a better option would be having Rainbow High compete against other schools from around the world or having Rainbow high give it's students the task of designing decorations for a huge party for a big event and would also involve the girls creating new outfits for said party. I think that would've been more interesting in my opinion.
The choices are always very biased in your surveys so they mostly reflect your thoughts, not the views of everyone. For example, the first question. All of the options are negative.
Like yea we all partake in a very capitalistic hobby in doll collecting but damn I see what you mean Peachy, they know thst big eyed animal creatures sell with kids (even though poopoo caca creatures have way too big scary eyes) and shove it down our throats seeing if it will stick. I dont find them cute at ALLLL. We needed a Sanrio collab instead lol!
Also hopefully they will give us more magical stories moving forward. Like going down that dark hall to reveal Storywood fantasy, hopefully. But like with kids movies, you dont need to dumb down content for kids, we should let kids experience high concepts that adults could enjoy too, kids gravitate towards high concepts too

I mean I know it's for kids, but the adult collectors would be put off by more kid demographic. Unless it's their favorite characters like Sunny and Luna.
@sainttan I think mgas goal is to cater more to kids. They maybe grateful that there's an adult audience but still want to cater to their original audience and I feel like that's valid from a marketing standpoint. As far as the leaks go the dolls themselves still look great and as adult doll collectors we could always give the slime and the pet away to a kid or throw it away if we truly don't want it. Personally, I'm excited for the slime part because I'm neurodivergent and it's a good destresser for me. And slime us becoming popular among kids again
The way they introduced the pet in the show didn't really fit the Rainbow High aesthetic but just made it more obvious that it was shoved in for the sake of a toyline.
Now if you did the same type of introduction for a pet in Monster High, that would fit the aesthetic as Monster High's lore and design is built with a history of mystery where a crystal egg falling out of an old locker isn't out of place considering it's Monster High so anything bizarre fits their personality and kicks off the adventure.
Rainbow High however, its aesthetic revolves around fashion, large color palette, clothes, shoes, bags etc.
It has no aspect of magic to it and the school is designed to be well maintained so it's unlikely that an old locker would stay locked for years only to coincidentally, conveniently open and drop the little crystal slime hatchimal just as Sunny and Violet pass buy.
This would have worked better if they included the Shadow High series 3 character Scarlet Rose whose focus happens to be Creative Writing.
So as they celebrate Scarlet's best selling work Storywood which even Scarlet thought was fictional, they somehow stumble upon the crystal slime hatchimal and with it the door to Storywood which kicks off the adventure.
Also, I feel like the slime pet hatchimals Storywood arc should have a mix of Rainbow High and Shadow High students involved because if they don't include Scarlet Rose then they have missed a great opportunity.
Rainbow high dolls should be focusing on the fashion, not pets or slime, should be a separate thing

If MGA was making money as they were going with RH they would not have changed. This move is not because they want to but rather they have to try some other direction. The line is gathering dust on the shelves at Target and Walmart. Many adult collectors will forever remain in denial no matter what.
It seems like they’re trying to stick to the core six dolls and I really don’t like them. I HATE the original eye sculpt. I’ll be buying these for the clothes, if they’re any good 🤦🏽♀️ I’m sad, I absolutely love, rainbow & shadow high

I don’t think the capitalism thing is such a big deal. They are a corporation and they need to survive by making money. It’s clear they’re just trying new things so they can make money and keep rainbow high alive at all. Maybe the stats on pets is a lot more popular than we think. I hate it so much.
u better preach its such a waste a of what could have been a better plot overall the whole show is just a visual ad for the dolls and they shouldve just stick to what they do best which is make fashion dolls (with bratz too) and stop trying to compete with mattel like how do u have better quality better doll brands and better fashion and somehow cheapen the brands down to try and one up mattel who couldnt really compete with bratz or rainbow high once they got in their groove. mh is selling just like bratz off nostalghia mattel is just playing more into the "wokeness" .
