The absolute last thing I would do is give Musk any of my money, these people are all CROOKS.

I'm over 70 and really like my Model Y doing most of the driving. It's a 2025 that I purchased in November 2024.

That’s amazing! I really love the model Y’s as well. How are you liking FSD? Isn’t it awesome?

I am 77 and my wife is 71. We live in Vancouver and bought our Tesla model Y in June 2024. It came with 30 days of free FSD. Within 2 weeks of driving we both agreed we needed self driving and after the 30 days we got the CAD$99/month FSD subscription (Canadians get the exchange rate discount from the USD$99/month for USA customers🎉).
We have “Tessy” (my wife chose the red color and the Car’s name) drive us with FSD activated the car 99% of the time, in all city driving and longer trips. Each FSD software update got better and reduced interventions, and 13.2.2.1 is REALLY good. My wife uses a small electric mobility scooter. I researched, ordered and had installed an electric scooter lift for the Y. 😊

These type of stories always inspire me! I really appreciate your comment as this shows the incredible impact that this technology has on people all over.
I consistently get comments just like yours saying that people find themselves getting out more, traveling more often, and feeling safer while on the road.
How are you liking the Model Y? Those are great cars with a good bit of space!

I have participated in the FSD development (user not employee) since 2018. Up until V13 it has been a quirky but very usable ADAS. V13 for the most part drives better than the majority of human drivers. When you see the progression over the years and the exponential leap V13 represents, I have faith FSD will be solved soon. New drivers see the current state and think it doesn’t drive right because the decisions it makes are based on good driving practices, not on how I or other drivers interact with the car. Don’t get me wrong, I am always on high alert for situations going south, but those situations are fewer and farther apart than ever.
Having heaped on the praise, I agree was are still not there yet. But from my perspective, it is close not years away. FSD can never be totally safe from the bad drivers on the road, but it sees them better than I do with its 360 degree view of the drive space.

This is so true! New drivers/testers of FSD sometimes fail to understand the exponential improvement that FSD has received over the past decade..
Since you have been using it since 2018, you must have really observed these monumental enhancements.
Out of curiosity, what is the biggest thing that stands out to you on version 13 comparing to older versions of FSD?

Version 13 flipped a switch in my brain as to how human like the driving has become. Before, while predictable, it was a mechanical object moving through the world using predefined strategies to navigate and drive. That has mostly gone away as the car is watching and making decisions quicker and more accurately than ever. Version 11 was as close to unusable as it got. I only was able to use it while alone in the car. V12 was a big step up and finally started showing the potential of FSD. V13 gave me the confidence to do an 1100 mile nonstop road trip only stopping to charge and bio breaks. I turned 75 shortly after that drive.
The area I’m currently in has rural, urban, city, and highway driving filled with international and local drivers generously described as competent. I am constantly amazed at how well it handles being cut off, red light runners and people driving on the shoulder to pass turning cars. Construction is rampant here and I can’t recall a takeover while on V13.
Enjoy your car! I’m sure like me you wonder why anyone would drive without FSD.

How did you change from standard to the hurry mode while driving on the interstate?

Great question! Just by using the right scroll wheel! So when in flight, you can just use the right scroll wheel to switch between drive profiles!

I have the 2023 Model Y and have just tried version 13.2.2 free trial (have also tried previous free trials). It was nice to try FSD again for a few times and all worked ok, but still not going to buy or subscribe to FSD for personal reasons. Main one is I really don't need it for my around town driving since I am retired. I feel more comfortable having control of the vehicle myself. If I were younger and still working, I may have gotten it to help with daily driving to work, etc.
If Tesla gives me another free trial this coming Summer 2025, I will try it again, but still won't buy it. I need that 99 dollars for other necessities and not some luxury item like FSD. With our new President now in the US, the Economy looks very scary right now in what he plans to do, and it WON"T BE to make America great again.
Thanks for the video. Take care.

Great to hear from you @dathyr1! Yes I absolutely agree that this is more of a luxury item for now. It’s fun to watch the progression of the FSD software get better with time.
I hope the weather up there by you is getting slightly better. We here in the central area are starting to finally get some snow melt.

@@DriveElectricToday Yes the weather is pretty mild right now near 30 degrees and just got out of 3 days of bitter cold. We still have February and March to still contend with, so anything goes yet. Northern Illinois has been pretty lucky so far, knock on wood. Take care.

FSD 13.2.2 is indeed awesome but still has some quarks. While I was driving in heavy traffic on freeway 5 in OC, FSD used carpool while I was driving alone.

I couldn’t agree more. While FSD V13 is jaw dropping at times, it’s still not without flaw. I, myself, had the car almost try and go on a red light. Thankfully I intervened and disengaged it.

At 2:50 he says FSD v13 has been absolutely amazing. But just look at the road conditions at 2:50 . Very easy, nothing like a busy big city.
FSD does very well on simple routes. But human intervention is required on complex routes. FSD is still just a simple Level 2 assistant. Level 5 full autonomy is years away. FSD cannot read and understand most signs, and FSD will go into handicap parking places. Not good !

    • @DriveElectricToday
      @DriveElectricToday  15 днів тому

Yup, absolutely agreed here. FSD performs extremely well in suburban, simple routes. It’s funny because even in this video (towards the end) it tried to park on a handicap spot, just like you mentioned.
We are definitely years away from full autonomy. Couldn’t agree more. Thank you for your continuous comments and support!!

I'd love to see it take on one of our gravel roads.

Yes that would be a great test to see how it reacts. I’ll have to see if I can find a good area for me to test that on.
I wonder what it would do in terms of keeping the center lane or not.
Great to hear from you! Hope all is well!

I had an incident today on the highway where my Model 3 2025 operating in FSD mode was in the right hand lane as it was going to soon exit onto another freeway. There was traffic that was merging onto the freeway into the lane in which I was driving. My Model 3 did not slow down or adjust its speed to allow a merging car to merge into my lane. The merge lane was rather short so the merging car had to slow down to less than ten miles per hour for my car to pass as it was running out of lane to complete the merge. I feel that my Model 3 ideally could have more proactively adjusted its speed to allow the merging car to merge with greater ease and lower the accident risk of this situation, i.e., slow down or speed up. New FSD drivers on a free trial for example like me need to go through this process and play "chicken" to understand the current limitations.

Cars entering from an on-ramp typically have to match their speed and position relative to oncoming vehicles. It is a curtesy to safely move over of slow or slow for them. V13 can do both of those things when appropriate. You must get into the mindset letting the car make a safe decision while avoiding the mistakes of humans.
