Your the BOMB dude. I'm to from ABQ...south valley. It's hot today 89* and fking humid!!!. Got the puller at Auto Zone, they raised the price, $64.00 and 90 day return gets all your money back. Chillin' in the house today (with cocktails). I'll climb on the roof monyana morning. Thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video Julian! It was real easy after watching. I rented the jaw puller and it worked great. I also got my money back after returning it to Auto Zone!
Thanks for this video! I vaguely knew something about using a "puller" of some sort for this project, but I wasnt sure of the name, and dreaded the thought of having to buy one once I figured out what it was called. The possibility of renting one from AutoZone is a total game changer! I do handyman jobs and maintenance for a few small assisted living homes in Metro Denver. The high today is supposed to reach 96°, IN EARLY JUNE! And the evaporative cooler at one of the homes isn't working. Turns out the pillow block bearings need replacing, but I can't replace one of them without removing the pully wheel first. Now that i know which tool to use, and where to find it, I'll be able to get the evaporative cooler up and running in no time. Half dozen elderly people will be much more comfortable, and very grateful! Thanks for your help!
It worked! Just required like 3 washers stacked in my case LOL. Also reminder to unscrew that square shaft screw quite a a few turns, it actually seats into a hole in the shaft so you need to bring it all the way out of that...
You brought up a very good point that I should have mentioned ...you should always have more than one washer when doing this in case the first one gets bent to hell lol
Good job my brother thank you for the info. I have used that jaw pulley before to remove a steering wheel from a car I had no idea that you could also use it for your cooler too. imagine that.
nice video. clean and lightly sand any part of the axle sticking out before you start so that once it does move, you have a nice clean axle to pull over or it may not want to move again over the exposed rusty axle. You can buy pulley pullers at big box home stores for like $24. thanks for the washer idea to plug the axle hole, i used a stack of 5 quarters and it still bent into them deeply lol.
Something you can try before renting a jaw puller that worked for me: After hitting it with penetrating oil, wedged a hammer handle between the pulley spokes and blower spokes and pulled. You should be able to find a spot where you can put a lot of leverage on it, and might save yourself a trip to the store.
Great video! On my 10yr old cooler, the bearing on the other side (no flywheel) is seized. I’ve removed the metal u-shaped flange cover off the bearing, leaving behind the rubber “ball” with oil filler, but It has a metal collar with a hex-nut to hold it in place, that must slide off first. I’ve removed the hex, but the collar won’t move! Can’t turn it with even a pipe wrench, banged on it, penetrating oil etc. Would that puller work on this? Any ideas to get it off or is beyond saving?
Dude I laughed the way you said HOTTER THAN A MUTHERFUCKER LOL,I WAS ON MY ROOF TODAY AND THATS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID TO MYSELF BEING IN ARIZONA LOL😁😁GREAT VID!!👍👍
@@julianmartinez4479 It would be. If they're not so stuck that you break or bend the pulley. I've gotten some that we're so stuck that I had to cut the pulleys off.
@@Dave_Simmons wow ! You would think they would have a better design by now...but I do have to admit once you have those things fastened on they are not gonna easily come off by themselves
Great video man. Do you have a video on how to replace the squirl cage??? Mine is all rusted and i wanted to replace it but not sure how to take it out. Thanks!
You have to be a research scientist this is what everyone needs to successfully easily use the puller for any Hollow shaft you need the shaft plug it comes in different sizes relative to the size of your Hollow shaft it's called the squirrel cage shaft plug
Mr Martinez, fellow burqueno here...thank you for this video. I rented the tool from auto zone like you suggested, and they said when I returned the tool I would get the $50 charge to rent it back! It worked like a champ, but I have another problem...the shaft that connects to the bearings is so rusted I can’t get it out to replace.... The diameter of the shaft due to the rust is making it hard to get out. Suggestions?
Yes I've seen that before ..the best advise I can offer is to hit it with some rust buster and then take down the rust with some sandpaper a dremil or a file ..sorry it took so long for me to see your question brother 505 !
Random, love the video but big guy scared of heights and located down the street from Albuquerque. Would this be something you would do at someone else’s house and what would you charge? Appreciate it
My swamp cooler is maybe 3 years old and it's seized up pretty bad. I used 2 quarters and a nickle and it bent them and still didn' t push the pulley out lol AND to top it off the bearing is seized onto the shaft and the shaft is seized onto the squirell cage arms. I'm basically screwed. Not sure what to do but hope that overnight it comes loose after spraying 20 gallons of penetration fluid
Somebody commented a while back that using a socket with a 3/4 drive works better than the washers . Try using a socket you probably need harder steel than the coins can offer .
@@julianmartinez4479 Thats a pretty good idea, but too little too late lol I ended up buying a Bonaire Slim 5900. I might try to take it apart with that 3/4 and then buy some parts to sell it. But Im not sure how im going to take off the rest thats rusted on also haha
I've got to replace the blower/fan piece I think. The welds between that and the axle have broken. Did you ever do a video of that? Have tried to weld it back but it won't hold, the fan bounces around while the axle spins from the pulley because the welds are trashed.
Hi Supermarketmtz no I have no videos on that but the best thing for that would probably be to replace it ..the extra weld on that is probably throwing it off balance and causing it to spin un evenly causing bouncing or rocking and breaking the weld
First, of all I´m not an expert. I´m in Monterrey Mexico Bro (40-50 Celsius), I had to figure it out all by myself. You´re completely right about Autozone, nothing to do with climates though, another fucking thing I needed to figure out as I was looking on Home Depot at first. That screw is attached at the back or upfront of the "polea" , I laught when I saw you doing it as I did that right haah.

Julian Martinez hi! I’m a fellow buerqueño... hopefully you can share this question for me...does the chirping/squeaking on my swamp cooler mean I need to replace the bearings?
. Hey now Buerquena! As for your question, not necessarily....there are a lot of reasons for a swamp cooler to squeak or chirp. Just make sure to keep the bearings and all moving parts oiled up .

The Black Bolt is screwed all the way down and this is a brand new pulley it's never been used and that Black Bolt will not move for anything no matter how much you lubricate it or anything it won't budge it's like welded in place I guess it's worthless this tool is the most worthless tool I've ever seen
