Another good reason for the inversion mod you didn't mention is that you can actually see all of the deskmat. One oversight when it comes to deskmat designs is that they can look so nice, but we cover it up with a keyboard! Now, with the inversion mod, we can fully appreciate the entire design. I appreciate your innovation and I'm sure we will see this become the new go-to mod.
I wonder how drastic the sound would change if I tried to use a 4 inch table rather that a 2 inch one. I'm also curious if the board will sound pingy if I use a steel table. What's the engineering secret on this new mod?
You almost had me for a minute! Keychron is really stepping up their game. Such a stark difference compared to my experience with their K3 last year. All their recent releases are bangers.
Scott, I think you can still put your kilmat at the bottom and add a layer of pe foam between pcb and plate to achieve a even more pleasing sound. You know your special mod package. But you are right it sounds amazingly nice out of the box.
Woah man. I don't know how you know so much about my keyboard preferences. But that was a serious surprise that you would outright name me in your video. 🤯
This board with the brown switches is very quiet, we have been super impressed with the board. Not so sure we love the keycaps but those are easily changed!
Isn't the main idea behind a backlit keyboard to be able to see the keys in the dark? Guess that "Pro" stands for.: "I'm a professional. I never look at my keyboard while typing!" :D
I just completed my lifelong ambition of taking a No. 2/65 and removing those pesky gasket mounts in favour of a solid hard mount for every key. It's heavenly.
Hey @Keybored, your videos have been an amazing intro into this hobby. I am wondering, on the Q3 Knob is the F Key layout really an issue? For context I am trying to decide between the Keychron K8 Pro and the Q3 Pro (with the standard knob layout, knob on the top right with no macro buttons). The #1 thing that I care about is the "thonky" sound. I realized I wanted an actual customizable board as I previously had a Filco keyboard with blue switches and it was too clicky for me long term and I really prefer the thonky sound. And I'd love to be able to mod the board and change the switches to play around with sound and feels. I know I can mod the keyboards and I will but I want to choose the one that will ultimately sound best after mods as well. So from what I've read, it sounds like the Q3 Pro is overall the "better" board than the K8 Pro. I'd honestly prefer the layout of the knob-less Q3, but that doesn't have Bluetooth which is why I am considering the K8 Pro as a knob-less option. Hopefully all of this context makes sense, and I am wondering if you have any issues with the F-key row being squished on the Q3. I specifically like TKL layouts as they are a standard keyboard layout, but I also think this probably isn't that big of a deal. Also if you have any specific recommendation between the K8 Pro and Q3 Pro, I'd love to know as you are much more knowledgeable than I am!
This is really nice. Ive just recently looked a bit into custom keyboards, but it was always hard to recommend any "higher end" keyboard to people, because theyre usually super expensive. To the point where a lot of the stuff feels like "exclusively" enthusiast. So I love that theres now cheaper keyboards that focus on typing feel, and take some lessons from the enthusiast stuff. If you pay 100 bucks for a keyboard, then it really shouldnt be hard to have some dumbed down, basic version of enthusiast features in there. Feels like before there just wasnt the experience or interesting from other companies to do this stuff. Especially gaming brands. And especially the sound dampening features should be (in my experience) very attractive to more causal PC users.
Cool review as always! Wireless, Function keys and the Home/End key placement - these do for a quick job at my workplace :) And the sounds from added dampeners are just wow...
I pre-ordered/pledged to this on the first day, can't wait for it!! All I intend doing to it is new keycaps and switches, maybe new stabs too. Yes I am one of those who must have wireless and that is what stopped me getting the Q3. I'm using the K6 with lubed zealios V2 67g with Glorious pudding caps. It is my first mech keyboard and I am now addicted.
welp, pledged with a tape mod and some speed silvers it might be perfect for me right now. like others have said I'm excited for the pro versions of their smaller sized keybs, the 75% would be perfect for a media pc or console.
I am not a keyboard enthusiast however after watching a few keyboard videos...it seems that the thocky sound is much sought after. 1) So does this k8 pro is thock approved by your standards? I just ordered on kickstarter and seems delivery will be a month or 2 away. 2) Should I wait or get a q3 or q1...but noticed both of them at stock isn't as thocky as the k8 pro.
brother I have a question for u, I am going to buy k6 pro next week, besides I just worry about one thing as switch is best for sound and hear, and most trendy with phenomenal red or brown? your personal recommend pls>?
K8 Pro is the best prebuilt keyboard I have every typed on for the money. My only worry was latency for gaming, lots of information saying Keychron has high latency. But in my testing its VERY FAST, actually getting even better numbers than my Asus Azoth! I did upgrade to the Q3 because I really wanted a metal body and liked how the arrow keys are in the top case. But worth 2x the price? No not really unless your into the hobby. I kinda want to try the Q3 Pro and see how it feels and sounds compared to the Q3 (how I found this video searching for that comparison) I do also have the Q3 Pro SE but its not the same case so I cant compare. But other than the PC plate and the switches I cant see much difference (and I prefer the Gateron Pros to the Keychron switches on the Q3 Pro)
Thanks for the review man. Just got mine few months back Wanted to tune the stabs. Im new to this and not sure how can I remove the stabs. Can you please help ? Do I need the screw driver there seems to be a screw which is holding the stabs in place ?
Oh man we have April Fool's video intros now too! 🤯 Great review of the board. Keep up the awesome work! You are definitely putting out great content and the creativity is off the charts right now.
worked for me. thanks so much! but a problem is that my keyboard keeps falling and braking. but solves the problem for me if I ever type upside down. life saver!
I bought this board with red switch for 95 dollars , it sounds alright.. but I bought and put a Strawberry Jelly V5 Switches on this board , Lubed and filmed ... also I triple layered Masking Tape on the PCB and boy ... This board sounds CREAMY AF ... just the way I like .. its so addicting I had to open my headset everytime I try to type something .. x'D ... and it only cost me around 130 dollars
Hey Scott, great video! When I got to the part of your video with the Carrot switches I was so excited to hear you have good things to say. These switches have become one of my favorite budget, linear switches on the market today. When I purchased these switches on Amazon they came with a longer, 58g, two stage spring. I swapped the stock spring with those, and I think it makes a very fun change to an already great switch. The longer spring makes for a much snappier return, which makes the top out sound even more pronounced. Did you happen to get these springs as well, and if so how do you think they compare to the stock ones?
A little less than a year ago, Keychron was doing pretty badly. They kept people hanging for the keychron software, wasn't really improving with the boards they put out, and the idea that they're a company of a bunch of enthusiasts that makes boards just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Now they're actually doing it, redemption arc started with Q1, and they'll even get better
Hi, I love that sound, but I currently use the Keychron k8, not the k8 pro. Could you provide me with some suggestions on how I can mod my keyboard to sound like this k8 pro? Thanks
Gotta give you props for keeping a serious face through the mod introduction LMAO
Haha it was hard to do lol. But happy April fools!
I like this new direction Keychron is heading to. Looking forward for the Pro versions of the K6 (65%) and the K2 (75%)!
Me too! The K6!
@@Keybored buying an excellent pre-build like this so that I can avoid the rabbit hole itself, the custom keyboard with group buys that is 😂
I want a pro k6 too hopefully we'll tuned like k8, make it a bit thinner, bigger battery, brighter led.
I will mod it to sound like a premium board.
If the k6 pro releases in less than a month ill probably want to buy it and mod it a bit
5 months later, and the k6 pro was announce over a month ago!

I'm still waiting on keychron to make an enthusiast-grade 96%... bought a K4 forever ago and it's what made me love the 96% layout.

just put a deskmat , you world will be different
Depends how solid your desk is. Ikea hollow desks vs more solid once do sound different, even with desk mats.

it's actually impressive how good this thing sounds stock for $109
May wanna add like $20-30 to that cuz shipping
This is now called the Australian Mod
Hahaha that makes too much sense

Hilarious. This pokes fun at keyboard snobbery which nowadays is reaching the level of ...dare I say .. audiophiles :)
damn he so pro that he absolutely changed the definition of keyboard
Can't believe you consulted with a few noble prize winners to come out with this mod! Truly revolutionary!
They were critical!
Woah this keyboard sounds like 10x better than some customs
I was very surprised. Everything sounds too good now!
imagine being new to this hobby found the video for the first time
when a prebuilt has better sounding stabs than your custom lubed and tuned durock V2s
1:55 this is how the madness looks like.
ok, now i wonder how it feels to type in the space

Still infinitely more practical than placing an electrically conductive material against the PCB. Your appropriately named "kill" mat mod.

Why does your k8 pro have a small, orange enter-key? Mine is regular/big size and dark gray
the k8 pro comes in different colors thats why
if the size is different, L shaped kinda, its because you have an ISO layout, this is ANSI
