There is easier slicing even. Set your eraser tool width to zero, toggle "cut out from paths and shapes" on and toggle on "break apart cut items". And you have a knife. Only downside is you cant see the line while drawing but it works exactly like a knife.
The Eraser Tool also leaves a (bigger?) gap or space. Try the Pen Tool approach to mitigate that issue. (With Shift+E I can see a line. Make sure to move the cursor somewhat slower through the object to see it. Tested in Inkscape 1.3.2, W=0, Caps=1.40, Tremor=0, Mass=10)
I was familiar with all of this already, but had to watch just in case I was missing something. Otherwise, your videos have shown me a lot of functions I wasn't aware of, and the Inkscape developers add new features faster than I can keep up or try them all out, and so am probably still doing some things the hard way. 🥴 So thanks for what you do!🤗 Looking forward to more videos!👍👍👍
An excellent video tutorial. Perhaps you could also cover the Slice Live Path Effect in Inkscape to give extra usages and options within Inkscape. Great and helpful as always.
Crystal Clear & Simple This video satisfies me because I usually miss the differences between pathfinder various applications & your clear demonstration helped me. THANKS NICK
Combine forms a "compound path" from the selected paths. This will keep every node along the path intact. By contrast, union will form a single closed path from the selected paths, which will remove any unnecessary nodes that do not form the union's perimeter.
And how does erasing retain the sections? I would think that erasing is meant to get rid of things, not keep them for some use. Besides that, it's very simple to select objects and hit the [Delete] key, so the eraser must be there to deliberately create the appearance that an actual eraser was used, so a whole different animal.
@@Bob-of-Zoid the eraser tool draws a red line through other vectors/shapes, erasing lines as it goes. The vector can then be broken into segments if necessary as per this video, or you could just deletes feature within another shape

Fracture works too! You don't even have to combine the lines to do it either :)

So many tips, not just the ones directly on topic but the everyday working tricks that make Inkscape so much quicker and easier. 💯

THANKS NICK
Every one need know this tool.
Thank you for reading my mind!!!! This is exactly what I needed for a project I’m working on. Now I can slice the stroke too
thanks for continuing to make great content for the amazing free and open source Inkscape! it's truly an amazing software.
Good to have this little helps at UA-cam. Thx a lot!
Nice workaround and perfect showing the weaknesses and disadvantages of path
You're the man! Thank you, Nick!
You're the best Nick
It would great if you could do a quick tutorial on the fonts from Vector design viewpoint. Especially, the fonts that are available for free.
Very nice and to the point. I really needed this. Thanks, Nick!
Very, very Useful!, Thanks for Sharing!
As always, brilliant lesson, thanks!
Thank you so much, very useful tutorial
Thank you Nick! 😄
Near trick! Thank you!
Positive!
Thanks for the good video - in which tool you use to recored the videw and the green circle around the mouse and the zoom ?
Can you show the easy way to make a travel poster
Awesome! 😀
¡Excelente!
Inkscape team: Oh well, time to work
Oh you know us so well. 😉
now inkscape is more powerful.
@@GraphicDesignStudio yep, and let's not forget about Godot Engine, despite it's small size, it's incredibly powerful as well
What the difference between combine and union?
Combine forms a "compound path" from the selected paths. This will keep every node along the path intact. By contrast, union will form a single closed path from the selected paths, which will remove any unnecessary nodes that do not form the union's perimeter.
Can this also be used as a workaround to give different sides of an object with a stroke different stroke colors?
Is there anyway to add custom units in inkscape.
what if you go to path > path effects > slice
When you used the pencel tool to draw a free hand lien how did you get the line to auto smooth after you were done?
When you choose pencil tool you can set smoothing amount on the top bar.
There is an Eraser tool, it's a bit more coarse than knife, more cleaver

Knife tool is much better than eraser tool.
Correct, the Eraser Tool in inkscape can do similar action
@@JohnColgan. That I can see, but then how is it more course, aka Like a cleaver? BTW You obviously have never got to play with my cleaver!😜
Yet.
help
im making text
path -object to path
ungroup
nothing happened in 1.3 inkscape.
in 1.1
ithe text can slpit
any solution??
I think you text is still in group. Go to path and also click on Fracture after ungrouping.
@@GraphicDesignStudio thx , its work but you must move the object to get you want. it work
@@GraphicDesignStudio i think donot need ungroup. after you path- object topath- Fracture they split
👍
