I'm on UA-cam every day listening/watching some video of Joey's and this is the first I've seen this one and already almost 31,000 people have seen it!!! Amazing. Thanks Music on Jazz for posting this wonderful concert. I first say Dan playing with Sammy Miller's Congregation and having way too much fun playing with Joey on his solo. Ulysses plays the drums on "Giant Steps" and kills it, just as he does here.
+Acacia Koa I am Now a big fans of Joey too....listening to his music make me travel to another dimension...relaxing and entertaining. But I am now also want to know more about reincarnation LOL.
OMG it's a whole fantastic album right here on this youtube video! I just can't believe how good Joey is, and the other musicians are fantastic too. What a pleasure this has been to hear!
first time i heard him i burst into tears too, man. It's because he's a modern day miracle. he is proven that there are no limits to what a human can do. It's like if you saw someone levitate in the air. you'd be overcome. That's what it is. My mom is always telling me "oh listen to this prodigy or that prodigy and i'm always like, "yeah whatever mom." one day she goes, "You have to hear this 10 year old boy from indonesia play giant steps!" I'm all, "c'mon mom, that's impossible!" She puts a you tube video of Joey in front of me,...my Jaw is on the floor and tears are streaming down my cheeks! She says, "Whatsamatter you don't like him?" hahahahaha! I couldn't even speak!
Keep on cookin', Joey; you've got a world of work left to do, and you can do it! Don't ever give up; we need your fresh and inspiring voice in this too-oft-jaded world of ours… Your voice is needed, and will be loved for years and years. Bravo.
What joey's doing here is nothing short of a miracle. His ears are so advanced that his incredible technique is hanging on for dear life which means he's only scratching the surface of what he'll do. and even that is absolutely thrilling to listen to.
Joey took it in his very being, when he was a toddler, so god his creator blessed him, because he is ahumble young genius and he always puts God first and foremost. And pays homage to the the great Giants, of jazz. Thank you for listening, my name is Maria.
Absolutely blistering gig! Is there a better quality recording of the second set on this video? I'd love to see/hear it, even if just the audio. Thanks :-)
Thank you so much Music on Jazz for posting this on You Tube. Its a wonderful concert. All the musicians are phenomenal and Joey continues to defy belief.
THANK GOD JAZZ WILL BE HERE FOR ANOTHER 50 YEARS Because of new people like Joey Alexander Starting with BIRD And Hopefully in heaven also God digs Jazz
Well this certainly proves the thesis in Whiplash wrong, it doesn't matter how hard you work, genius is a gift. I'm not saying that Joey is lazy but that the idea that anybody can become Coltrane through hard work alone is not an idea that I like.
There goes Joey again the young giant of today, for one he studies the great Giants of yesterday, today, and always, thelonius monk, John Coltrane, Horace silvers, herbie Hancock bud Powell art Blakey the drummer which art played the piano when he started out then he went to the drums.plus his dad and mom, always had him listen to jazz music when he was a toddler his dad always played jazz albums around him. And Joey took it in his his very being.
Come 2020 I can't wait to see Joey Alexander play in the Prambanan Jazz Festival in Indonesia. may the covid19 pandemic soon pass so that the Prambanan jazz festival temple is back in title
My interpretation: We are listening to the direct source, that swhich we all beings posses and are able to experience during the constant realization of this realm.
They got 'drugged' watching Joey's solos. Was too surprised and too excited, they slipped their fingers on the mouse :D Hence they missed the "Initially Intended-Button" :D
Those last 2 songs...starting 2:32...second take of City Lights, by Joey, then an Eddie Harris tune. Joey has great taste. They play together wonderfully.

Movie-Comic Ian
I think that 'thumb down' in some countries must mean 'phenomenal, stunning and astounding'. There can be no other explanation.....
for the same reason people build bombs, they haven't got the brains they were born with.
Ray Cabarga Alfred Nobel? :)
