How to Build Backlinks Without Paying for Them

- Look, if you want to rank on Google you need backlinks. We all know this, it's hard, and that's why a lot of people pay for them, but you shouldn't pay for them. Paying for them is against Google's policy, it's a great way to get your site banned, it's short term, it's one of the silliest things you can do. So, if you don't pay for them how can you get them? Today I'm going to share with you how you can build backlinks without paying for them.

Here's how you do it.
Step one, I want you to head over to Backlinks, it's a free link building tool that I created for you.
Go to neilpatel.com/backlinks and in the search bar put in your competitor URL, it'll show you all the people that link to your competitors.
Within there I want you to search for the pages that they have that are the most popular.
It'll show you that, you can see all the links, all the links that people are pointing to other than their home page.
And through the Backlink's report you can also see that, you can see the backlink count for the whole domain, a specific URL, and when you find the right articles that competition's going after, you want to look at the backlink count for that URL.
Now, if you're struggling to find really good pages, another easy thing you can do is when you're already in the Backlink's report, in the side bar click on top pages, it'll show you the top pages that your competitors are writing on, look at the ones that are most similar to you and you can also click the backlinks button there, it'll show you every single person that's linking to that article.
Second step, whatever that article is that your competitors wrote that's similar or related to your industry, I want you to write a better version of that article.
You know, if it's 1,000 words I want you to make it 5,000 words.
Yes, I know that sounds crazy, requires a lot of work, but go in depth. And I'm not talking about just shoving in keywords and making it long for the sake of it.
I'm talking about great amazing content.
Well, when I'm saying write amazing content, I want you to do things like talk about, if you're going to write on how to make pizza, break down everything to, how do you pick the vegetables.
Organic versus ones with pesticides. Do you need to drain out the water from the vegetables when you're cutting them up?
What's the right length to cut your cucumbers?
All the way to, how the water quality changes the taste of your dough. Do you use bottled water? Do you use tap water?
And then how do you put your toppings? How do you cut it? What kind of fork and knife do you use to cut a pizza? Do you use that circular roller thing?
I don't know how to cook because I'm not a cook, but you get the point. If that's how you make a pizza I just want super in depth, and I would try to go even more in depth than that.
I would also include GIFs, animated with images showing like the process of making the dough and spreading it out and tossing it in the air and then catching it and then my wife getting mad at me for making a mess in the kitchen.
Again, I don't cook but I would be a fun experiment, why not try it out?
So, you would do all these things, and making it super detailed is how you create better content than other people.
Whether it's images, videos that you also want to add to your articles.
Whether it's having a custom designer go in there and create graphics for you, all that adds up.
You want your content to be better. This is the most important part in this step.
It's not using my Backlinks tool, you can use anyone else's tool if you want, mine's just free.
It's nothing else.
This step, the second one, is the most important.
Now, the last step you need to take, you need to email out everyone linking to your competition and break down why your article's better.
Most of it is manual labor on your end, and that's why a lot of people don't have links. It's because they don't want to take the time to build all those links, it's just so time-consuming.
With you, if you're willing to do that, you'll outpace your competition, rank higher, and gobble up their traffic.

How do you build backlinks? Well, I'm guessing most of you don't build them at all, and I'm curious altogether because there is a really simple way to do this.
It does require hard work, I'm not going to tell you that you're just going to get these links in, wave a magic wand and do nothing, but if you're willing to do the work it's not hard to get these backlinks.

I would suggest go with new reach agency for podcast links, whitespark for local links and samurai marketers for blogger outreach links

Hi Dyamond I did get a few leads from it but been my first ever attempt at a site I did make a few mistakes in regards to seo, choosing the wrong niche for the area and also a slow hosting platform but nonetheless I am determined to restart again and learn from my past mistakes for the future. I also saw it as a learning curve on how to be better for the next time around.
But it seems impossible for beginners, as when we get those email Id to have a backlink they always ask for money

Hi Neil, Is there any way to rank without long quality content? Most of the SEO agencies don't want to spend too much for an article.
Quality is the most important thing and typically quality comes with depth, that's why it is so important to create long-form articles
You could also break down the process into smaller sections, making multiple posts about each step. Using the pizza example you could do a how to make best pizza dough post. How to make the best pizza sauce post. How to pick best produce or ingredients for pizza. Even how to make gluten free pizza. Etc, etc..
THEN, you can backlink all of these posts to eachother and to the original big in depth, better than the competitors post you started with.

I own a roofing company, I'm developing my website, and adding pages... I would like to build backlinks that will be tracked, and I can change the destination URL at a later date without having to go to all the other websites and change the URL one by one..
(example.. listing on a storm repair website, blog post, or automated facebook posts about storms. for now the link points to my only page. "/home" but in the future I would like to have customers coming from storm repairs to land on my /stormrepair page.) can I do that with a URL that points to a /stormrepairs landing page that redirects in 0 seconds to my /home? would that ruin the SEO since it's a link to a page with no content?
Some people demands money in any case, but some people just want a great content to take as a reference. If we keep focusing un creating great content I think eventually we'll get those links

Love your content Neil! I created a new website for blogging around 10 days ago. Got it indexed within two days after reading your article about it. Now when i am searching the exact name of my website on google, it shows on first page but when i am searching for the exact post title, it's on the 9th page. Is that considered good or bad considering the domain is almost brand new?
Considering the site is new, it likely just means you need to build your sites domain authority
New to Backlinks. So what does the other site do in relations to the article you send via email to them when you reach out?

But There are two things I don’t understand
First: To whom should I send the request to share my article is it the original article writer or the persons which the back links lead to?
Second: Should I take my competitors personal url or just one of his articles url and paste it on ubersuggest?
The backlinks should always lead back to your site! You reach out to the sites who you want to link to your content :)
Take the URL of the account you want to beat out!

For a brand new website (feb) with 95 articles how many backlink emails would you suggest per day? 3-5 for someone who will send them, themselves without any assistants (yet)?
As many as you can while being able to focus on everything else you need to do.

I'm starting to see a lot of payoff in targeting and building relationships with influencers in a given niche. I almost never ask them for a link explicitly; instead I focus on maintaining a back and forth with them and getting mentions, comments, and shares. So I may target 10 to 15 influencers in a given niche with a total network of 100k. Each time I put content out in front of them, I get access to maybe 1-2% of that total network which does wonders in the long-run. It's definitely a slow-yield approach though that doesn't work in every niche.

It's a great way to keep your audience coming to your site. You can send out an email blast every time you release a new product or a new blog :)

i run the test 2 times same site gave me completely different numbers and also on my site i gave more then 4000 irgnic visits cause i dont pay for ads and it said i only have 1000 visitors a months its not authentic !

You can use the Ubersuggest Backlink tool, but it might take some time for Google to index the links :)

There's no such thing a a boring field! There's a need for companies like yours, you just need to make sure your marketing to your audience. Write blog articles about how people can deal with pest issues, and avoid them all together. You want to be the go-to brand in that field.

My all views comes from instagram, quora, and LinkedIn does they work as a backlink?
Those would be profile links, they don't carry as much weight as a backlink
