  • I went to Hakodate for work. I had a day off, so I walked around the city of Hakodate.
Hakodate is a city at the southern end of Hokkaido, the northern island of Japan. Before the 1870s, Hokkaido was hardly developed, but the area around Hakodate was an exception, and it was developed as a port town from ancient times. As expected, the city has become more modern in recent years, and the number of buildings with traditional designs has decreased significantly, but it still has an exotic atmosphere that is not found in other cities in Japan.
The city's tram is managed by the city, and has a 10.9 km line within the city. The gauge is 1372 mm, and the electricity is 600 V DC. It connects with JR at Hakodate Station. Currently, there is a mixture of old-style vehicles and modern low-floor vehicles.
I took photos on this line between Matsukaze-cho and Hakodate Dock-mae. The cab view inserted is between Jujigai Station and Hakodate Dock-mae. The driver's friendly announcements are also great. It's a line that makes you want to ride it in different seasons.

Thank you for this very beautiful video. Hakodate is a very beautiful city. I enjoyed the beauty of the streets and the homes of the businesses there. From what I know about the city, it is a fishing town. A lot of the seafood we received here comes from fresh and live from Hakodate.

Thank you for your comment. As you say, Hakodate is a fishing town. Squid is a particular specialty. Squid? It's delicious.
There's also a long-established restaurant. It serves côtelettes and soups in the same style as it did in the past.
The tram suits a town with many old buildings.

This is definitely a fun ride. It makes me wish I was still up for sitting in a long aluminum tube, elbow to elbow with a bunch of people for hours on end and eating "plastic" food, just so I could fly over and enjoy this tram system in person. Unfortunately, I'm way too old for that, now. So thank you, 14 ikesan, for allowing me to look over your shoulder and enjoy your rides. 🎉

😀I want to go back to when I was 14 years old. That was more than 50 years ago, when I had the purest love for trains.
Now we have a system that didn't exist back then - an international one.
I may not have the energy to do it anymore, but let's continue spreading our knowledge.
