@@GodzHammer Late reply, and I assume wendell was joking/being sarcastic/trolling, but I keep seeing people say the diesel is for dynamic breaking, and I just saw someone say this saves wear and tear on the steam locomotive. Someone in the comments for Part 1 who rode on it for the Ogden trip said this was also the answer given to them by one of the employees. But yes 4014 was completely rebuilt and restored to like new condition.
Benjamin0119 awesome thank you, that makes a lot of sense. Only other benefit I could see was for auxiliary power for the cars. Doubt 4014 could provide air conditioning.
@@GodzHammer Apparently one of those cars being pulled near the front of the train here provides that. The others are support cars for the engines. No actual passenger cars that people can ride on this video. There were on the other trip and I presume later on in this trip. I haven't caught up to all the Midwest tour videos yet. If I had to guess - steam engine, tenders, diesel, support cars, power car.
I usta sell ice cream to the people on the train that stopped in my town in St. Johns, MI in 1953. No more trains or track there. The station is now an art center with an old railroad box car in the yard. My kids have no clue or interest in my past as they only think of there past & their future. Life is different for them & is to fast for me.
I'm saying that from a sailor's perspective. The U.S.S John F. Kennedy CV67, and the U.S.S. William H. Standley CG32 were both named after men, but we who served of them call them her or she. So, get over it.
I see what you mean, but it seems that the primary purpose now is for public relations, and not to haul freight like it did in the 1940s and 50s. Let's be glad that UP even bothered restoring it.
Ya I know, and I appreciate everything UP has done. My point is that the only people that really care about 4014 running is railfans, generally speaking. Railfans want to see it haul some freight. The engine is practically a rebuilt "new" engine. Seeing her haul some freight would do a lot more for public relations IMO.
Hah! I've been thinking the same thing. Who knows, maybe they will haul some freight. It would nice to see some old fashioned mixed cars, but it would also be fun to see some modern inter-model with a classic steam engine!
That's tough mate...lol.. at least they got out... you guys just need more big steam powered Locomotives to do some runs up and down that line... God Bless bro.... gotta love people that care about our by gone days... 4014 is alive!!! that's huge.. the amount of work that's gone into this thing is mind blowing!!!
They brought it back to life..........amazing
I love this thing to death.
Its return this year is absolutely incredible!
Such a famous and absolutely amazing locomotive to have back...
23:52, I was down by the diamond in the white shirt.
Very nice. Some stills are great as well. 👍🏼

The train stopped in Omaha this weekend and we got to see it. Videos don't do it justice. It is magnificent.
Great video. Thanks so much. Love the firehose salute at Waterloo, Nebraska (17:47).
That was special!
Why does it need that diesel electric coming along with it? Thanks
Because it would not go three feet without breaking down if not pushed by the diesel.
But it was just fully restored, everything should be in tip top shape almost like the day it rolled off the assembly long....no??

Thanks for the drone footage!
Your video is great and superb. Great job, I can’t say enough. Thank you
Excellent!
part 2 also awesome :)
Awesome
Awesome and Spectacular Video of 4014!! Kudos to you!!!

I would like to say great shots from the drone, however the panning shots are just way too jerky. Great coverage from the ground though :)

Got to work on lowering the smoke, its a bit excessive when the engines under no load
Get that ugly diesel out of the consist, and put some cars in the train. Make her work. Then you'll have something. Still looks great though.
Agree.
or if union pacific really wants a diesel in the consist at least use a heritage unit.
“Her”
Funny how you say that and it’s called the “Big Boy.” :P

Uh, I wasn’t criticizing.
I was joking.
I didn’t actually mind, so please don’t take it offensively or anything...
For cripes sake give that engine some real work to do! I'm sick of seeing it haul two water tenders and three cars!

Good things come to those who wait. Remember she doesn't have a lot of miles on her yet, and green crew who has no experience running a 4000.
She's not hauling freight or folks but she is "haulin' ass".

UP #4014 does look better pulling a load, fantastic when pulling revenue earlier last week!
Yes it is isn't it
Lots of over weight people showing up to view 4014, it might be the only exercise they got all week.
