Was lucky enough to see it twice in one day. A huge thank you to UP for getting 4014 running again. Specially running it on the old CNW lines so I could see this historic engine run down the line. Was 4 years old when they retired them. I barely remember hearing / seeing steam engines back then. So many companies and lines are now history. Pretty sad in some respects as things change. My first train ride was on a CNW going from Geneva IL to the Grand Station Station Chicago. It may have been slowly falling apart in places back then. But it grand size of it amazed me. You could see how beautiful it must have been in it's hay day. Sadly there isn't anything left of it only the in my memory or pictures I can find online.
Managed to see BigBoy in Ogden Utah in May, won't forget what a brilliant thing it was to see,and the locals from Ogden were great as well, the trip from England was well wort it!
just HAD to dig out my N-Gauge Big Boy and put it in a display case for this Monumental Occasion. 🌎The Big Boy pops up on model layouts Around the World 🌏
Great video and great series! I loved the photo slideshow. I had to do a double take and rewind when I saw the dates on the first few photos. You would think they were taken today with how well the Big Boy was restored! Then to see the Big Boy as "museum piece," then taken apart in the restoration video, then back on the rails! Great stuff! :) I just saw the Big Boy in San Antonio and Luling, and it was awesome! Nice model Big Boy, heritage fleet, and layout. You can really see the articulation there. :) Interesting, so is that layout on the floor, a perimeter layout of sorts, with that rug in the middle? How does no one ever step on it? Or is it able to be taken up off the floor when you're done running trains?
will big boy 4014 ever get to pull a long cargo train alone again like the old days. it will be cool to see him pull over 4 Mile long cargo train ALONE. that's what he was designed to do.
A Big Boy was never pulling a 4 mile long train. Even a modem diesel which has far more tractive effort than the BigBoy can’t do that. Even empties would be far too heavy. It would never produce enough air and the drawbars couldn’t handle it anyhow.
I'm from Switzerland and we also have a few working steam locomotives. Why a modern diesel locomotive? Does not fit! I do not see a pass where it has only slopes, where it can brake electrically to protect rolling stock.
4014 is a beautiful locomotive, they are doing a beautiful thing going across America with it, but I still don't think it's really running I know that it's full of steam because of steam whistle is running but, you can't hear any chugging, when you listen to 844 you can tell that it's running really hard and it's actually working when you listen to for the 14 there's no chugging I think it's being pushed by the diesel
@@MackeyBigBoy4014 yeah man I know that dude, but you can't hear the chuggin or the Pistons should be louder than that I don't know I'm no expert it just doesn't seem as loud as 844, when they separated the doubleheader from 844 and 4014 you couldn't hear the chuggin no more
@@gregbates703 big boys never really sound like that except at very slow speed, more of a constant roar at power under load, and 4014 is not working to pull this train, maybe 10% or less of its power is being utilized.
Also, the Great Race to Ogden was 4014 first official run since 1959, so the steam crew was probably taking it easy on the Big Boy and letting FEF-3 no. 844 and SD70AH no. 8937 do most of the running
To add.. Anyone can see the diesel loco is just there.. "in case" It's a huge deal that 4014 is running again... and doing a tour!! Wish I was there to hear this thing roar... Being an Australian kinda sucks, but at least I've seen the rebuild Vids on YT... Really chuffed you guys got an absolute ICON going once again... crowds are impressive too !! Hopefully the vids show the reliability of this old school Miss... she's beautiful!! Nice vids!!

God Bless UP for saving this national treasure
I still wish I was there to witness it in person
Thank You for great video work. You made the event a highlight of my summer!

Awesome video American Train :)
Hey American Train, you did it. You got the 10th part, good job.
I was flying my drone in chappell taking pics and vids. I posted a video of the big boy leaving town

I agree.

Great video my favorite of all of them due to area shot in

Dynamic braking and protection power.
UP Challenger #3985 + 143 Freight Cars. look this up.
if this steam train can do it so can the big boy 4014
Sad it didnt come to Missouri
Big Dude, huh?
Really enjoying this videos. A lot of these people are much too close to the tracks - the best viewing and pictures are from 50 - 100 feet back
I had great footage from Columbus,ne and you didn't even use it!
PKA Clan oh you poor baby

Greg Bates The locomotive is pulling. The diesel is just there for dynamic braking and in case of a catastrophic failure?
