Love seeing women doing survival skills on YT! Massive kudos! I lived in a debris hut in October on the East coast for a week - no sleeping bag, no fire, and just a light coat. It taught me a lot. For one thing, the higher your ridge pole, the more interior space your body has to try to heat up. My ridge pole was only about crotch high. The wood for the "ribs" was less than wrist thick - easily broken (no saw needed). I stuffed the interior with dry leaves and put a layer about three feet thick on the outside. It took me about three nights of waking up cold in the wee hours to fine tune it so I could sleep warm and comfy all night. A door is essential. Your shelter looks very similar to another shelter I lived in for a week - a group shelter with a central fire - good choice for winter.
Brook, your hat is as iconic a signature as Lonnie's beard, Lars' "how you could say" M43 wool field cap, Joe Robinet's dog Scout, internet trolls in heat on Survival Lilly and Emily Outdoors comment sections, and MCQ Bushcraft Mike's good manners. The Boreal 21 is an awesome saw, you put it to very good use! Thanks for making the videos for us YOUR way, your channel has a very distinct feel to it that just isn't like anything else on the 'Tube. 👍🏻👍🏻
Your music selection is always tremendous and you leave spaces to enjoy the natural sounds as well. Great build, Brooke. Hope you can get some good rest between projects :)
I enjoyed watching you build the shelter. It looks like it will be better than the last one. It is so much roomer. It will be so warm. Can hardly wait to see the end results with a camping night. Stay safe and happy building
Thank you! I was just commenting on another video how I wished you would show how to make a debris shelter from start to finish, and here it is! Wonderful.
Nature untouched is hard to beat. You, however, appear to be creating a very cozy little hideaway that has a very Bilbo Baggins quality to it. Not at all out of place if you were in the middle of the Shire. Well done! You are an ARTIST. Now I know why I like your channel. Can’t wait to see the completion.
I love you Brooke, I am living my life through you. I have told my daughter & husband if possible take me to the woods when I am leaving this life, that's how much I love the outdoors. Oh how I wish I could be there with you! You are a beautiful, strong woman. Looking good girl! 👍
Brooke, You have worked really hard on building this shelter it is looking good. I hope you get to enjoy staying in it then all your efforts will pay off. Brilliant well done.
Really like all your shelters, Brooke. This one is roomier than the one you built with Dave but I like that one a lot- very cozy. I guess they all come out with a different personality. The one you made on Alone is totally awesome! No one else on the show had anything that even came close. Must have been amazing for Dave to come “home” to. I bought season 4 as soon as it came out. Really like how you put the cross pieces over the door of the recent shelter. Glad you explained about the deadfall on the other trees. I trust your judgement better than mine! Looking forward to the next video. Loved this one!
Totally agree with your feelings on having more than a piece of fabric between you and the weather. Great music too! Loved this video. Your enthusiasm and joy is contagious :)
Super enjoyable video. The content is so valuable. The music was great, very ??? not sure, really nice. You are the hardest working woman!! Rockin it, as usual!! Sweet shelter!!
Love the way "random branches" come together to produce your micro climate maker. I can certainly identify with the sense of security this will give you ... Thanks for another great video, Brooke! Got happy just watching the progress you're making ! 😊
That looks like a cozy shelter build!! The Navajo tribe always build their door facing east, to greet the sunrise. Lotsa material out there, it's looking great!
That’s a great looking shelter! You made it look easy!! Now I’m older id need a rest just watching your video! Reminds me of my younger, fitter days ! Thanks for sharing this sister! I’d definitely be cosy there! Best wishes friend 👍🏽👍🏽😎
Thanks I appreciate you for take your time to share with us keep up with the wonderful videos wish you all the very best until next time my friend may God bless you and your family
Brooke, you are an inspiration. I wish there were a wooded area near where I live. In spite of my physical disability, I would like to try building a shelter.
Double 👍 👍's......... Can you please hurry up and get part 2 out, łøł 😉 can't wait to see it. God bless you and your family have a great day Brooke thanks for sharing 🇺🇸
Love debris shelters, there is something comforting about them with a very small fire at the entrance!! Really enjoy your videos!! The best from Maine!!
Keep it coming, I want to do a bushcraft video here in AZ, great conifer forests but little water, not to mention right now is wildfire season and this year is going to be a doozy, crunchy and crispy out there. Great video, looking forward to the next one.
i built a debris shelter in one of our wooded parks well off the main trail but close to a deer trail, i built it so i could take pictures of the wildlife as it passes by. i used all dead material that was on the ground or leaning, i left all standing dead trees. anyway it took me a couple three days to build and it wasnt all that big, but when i came back with my camera it was all torn down and the material was scattered all over. i dont know if it was just a pass byer who thought it was a homeless person building a camp or the park ranger, either way i didnt rebuild it. i wish i had took pictures of it after i had finished it, i think you would have been proud of the build.
I love the way you make your shelters and this one is beginning to look impressive already well worth the time and effort you put into it, looking forward to seeing the finished result and it would be great to see you stay the night in it with lovely Maisy for company , thanks for the upload. :)
Hi Brooke this is my first time writing to you but I’ve been watching you for a little while. At least I think it’s the first time I’m writing you LOL. I really enjoy the look of your shelter compared to other bushhcrafters I’ve seen on UA-cam and I can’t wait to see part two it looks nice and roomy and I totally understand about that feeling of safety with the debris shelter. Keep up the good work I really enjoy your videos!
Brook, Hello from Arkansas....I guess you don't have to worry about snakes around your bog....! here we have water moccasins and cottonmouths to watch out for along with our rattlesnakes & copperheads....so we have to be careful when we build a debris shelter near water... oh least I forget...skeeters..!!! it looks like its going to be a great shelter and can't wait to see how it turns out...love the hat...
Love it! I saw one in a forest last year but they made the entrance under the highest point of the large limb---I like where you have made your entrance better!
My base branch that I am stacking my poles on seems to be pretty high. There's lots of Deadwood everywhere to complete my project!! Brooke, I am excited!! It's so fun to build!!
Love debris shelters. I made one once, and it's so much more work than I thought. I also love the joy on your face as you enjoy the sounds in nature. Looking forward to the overnighter!
Nice music. I can tell you like playing in the woods...I know the symptoms because I have the same ones, lol. And like I always say, if you aren't occasionally hitting yourself in the head with a stick, it's because you probably aren't playing in the woods enough! Great video, now on to part 2.
Great start to your shelter. Looking good. I did this with my sons when they were ten and twelve. I guess I'll have to try it with the grandkids now. It might take a little longer this time. Looking forward to seeing how yours turns out. Thanks.
You're pretty brave to be out there, I would love to do that, good thing you have your dog for support and protection, and snuggles. Have you ever seen any Bears or wolves?
awesome video Brook, I built a debris shelter up where I crown land camp here in Ontario, Must say it was a fun project for me ,i am one who thoroughly enjoys what your doing , and try to do the same when i am out in the woods great video

Realy nice to see a woman by her self enjoying a survival situation.
Your videos are so relaxing. Just shows you that you don’t have to have a lot of money to have a satisfying life!

Every time I see one of these shelter videos it reminds me of Eeyore. he would be so happy with them.
You are one strong woman. In body & mind. I really admire you. I would not be able to be alone in the woods. Stay safe with your beautiful fur baby.
Your music selection is always tremendous and you leave spaces to enjoy the natural sounds as well. Great build, Brooke. Hope you can get some good rest between projects :)
