The single was better as it had so what on the b side.. Then the police raided every record shop and took them off the shelves because of the lyrical content... Ahhhh the good old days.. 😎🍻
Good man, I saw this lot @ The Strand Lycm. The first gig I ever went to. Bloodly brilliant. "Are you 18", at the door. "yes", says me in a small voice, "Just get in quick before the coppers clock ya". Cheers Guv. Got home @ 6AM, grounded for a month & had my studded wristband confiscated by my dad for being an offensive weapon!!! Love it.
mine kept being confiscated by cops .. never bothered me because leather was free when you picked up boots in a thrift shop and then just add your own barbed wire/drywall screws :)
@@graemenicol6377 You might be right, G.G. Allen may have been a certified lunatic, nobody knows cause nobody ever heard of him. G.G. Allin on the the other hand...
this is my favorite league song. it really has something to say about london. i actaully saw them a few days ago, for being alot older they were amazing!!
A "punk revival" in 1982? Jesus Christ. 40 years on and every year since 1976-77, there's always someone saying that. Punk never went away, just because it changes and certain people stopped paying attention doesn't mean it died.
look mank punk died in the 80's when rich kids and kids from stable homes suddenly started "converting" to punk while wearing $200 in clothes and $1000 in jewelery ... Care to buy some preripped jeans ? how about treaded ones?
iceuk1, i am with you 100 per cent on your comment, this is the 'finest punk ever' AND we LIVED, BREATHED and EXPERIENCED it as TRUE PUNK ... of which in my opinion it will NEVER EVER be re-created back to the finest calibre that it was........... today or tomorrow..........
Played this at an English Lesson at School. My Teacher smiled and found it an interesting version. He was an old Hippie. The rest of the class was shocked and disgusted.
This is the song that sparked my interest in punk. Not really a fan of punk bands singing their punk songs in general, but I love the energy of punk when applied to great songs. Every great song should have a punk cover.
@Megadeaf75 I didn't disrespect it. But I don't think an Anti-Nowhere League video is the place to talk about Metallica. I don't like Metallica, fine, but I didn't come on here announcing that before I seen people going on about them. Where is the relevance?
Saw them at Download Festival. Beyond amazing. Played this, Woman, I hate People, So what, among others. A brilliant set. Fucking amazing to be Honest.....
this is a great band i was Lucky enough to see them twice i love them but hey thats my opinion why do we always turn watching a video that we all typed the name of the band that we wanted to watch into an argument over and over and over again I love them and you know what i say to all you people who disagree So Fucking What (come on I know you saw that one comming lol)
Anti Nowhere League and The Blood ruled all the best scuzzy dives in South London back in the day Oddly enough both We Are The League and False Gestures have stood the test of time Which is more than can be said for some 1st wave of punk bands output
ANTI NOWHERE LEAGUE ARE KNOWN WORLD WIDE THE BLOOD BIG ENOUGH BAND BUT NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS THE ANTI NOWHERE LEAGUE THAT'S MY OPINION EVERYONE TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS LONG LIVE THE LEAGUE
@susejsausage - Nice mentioning, I've heard the original before but since listening this I might check out the origingal again. Although ANL's version is pretty crude I still like it a lot and streets of london by ANL is where i first heard this song from. Sinead O'Connor also does a cover of streets of london haha.
I think "Animal", the singer and frontman used to be a long distance Lorry driver between England and all over Europe before he tried his luck during the early eighties punk explosion taking place throughout Thatcher's Britain and beyond. They were a great band to listen to before handing in your UB40(unemployment benefit) form together with what seemed like half of London. Great memories-thx for posting :0)
@nomicealoud dont be hating! The boys were on this side of the OCEAN. at that time right here in southern california destroying the clubs here at that same time. l say if Lemmy loves em then its cool to me and about five jillion other people! who also i might add also love these guys too. Pay respect.
I'm gunna say here and now...punk wasn't invented!! it WAS a revolution. Granted a lot of "punk" bands took influances from MC5 and the dolls and even kiss, but as a musical style and way of life punk blew up everywhere without ever knowing about eachother untill long after the fact. Canada, USA, Britain Ireland, and most of Europe, New Zealand, Austrila, they all had bands doing the same kind of music with same kind of idealogy at the same time. IT WAS TIME FOR A CHANGE!
I bought this 81', heard it on John Peel, still love it. Happy days!!
Shame on you
I got this lp when it came out. I loved it then. I was 15. I love it still I'm 47. Take it for what it is. It's not opera.
These are all gems now since most new music just can't compare. Love it!!
I’m 63 … still love it
The single was better as it had so what on the b side.. Then the police raided every record shop and took them off the shelves because of the lyrical content... Ahhhh the good old days.. 😎🍻
I was also 15, now i'm 56, still plugged in.
@@anfrankogezamartincic1161 yeah I’m hitting 57 next month still digging the high school record collection lol
Great voice, great old school punk band, great lyrics...Great music!

Punk 😂
One of the best songs from a great album. Anti Nowhere League and G.G. Allin werethe real punk rock and no one can argue
I can G.G.Allen was nothing but a certified lunatic and he wasn't punk.
Except for that one time the League briefly turned into Duran Duran.
@@OneTheBlue 😂

That's my London 🎉

Well this is a cover.
I love the lyrics, I love the music. Rock on Anti-Nowhere League.
...He's just another hero, from a land that doesn't care. Brilliant. As true today as it was then.
What does that mean? Proud to be English. Tunbridge Wells is pretty awesome too.
@@englishrose7195 The lyrics are brilliant. As a former soldier (not hero), it is spot on.
These guys kick ass live!!!

It did in 1982, at least commercially.
@@TheFirstMadOnline The original punk movement was started by rich art students.
It has always been a sham.

My work inspired by this.
Great band, miss them, miss real music/real people.

Who knew Rob Halford played bass
Piss off Judas Priest copies a exploited song
Skinhead Oi!, Since when did Judas Priest copy an Exploited song? I doubt they even like Punk all that much.
Joshua Ibarra well Freewheel Burnings opening riff DOES sound ALOT SIMILAR to The Exploiteds UK82 but I wouldn’t say they necessarily copied it
hahaha

umas das musicas que marcou minha vida
As true today as it ever was. One of my CBT songs
Digbeth civic hall Birmingham 1986......was there..........so fucking wot.thanks for putting on
Thx for update-I think I 'remembered' info pre-Wikipedia, but rather the now obscure early 80's fanzine "Sniffin Glue".
I totally agree. Theres a lot that this group sung about that deep down inside we wanted too say for a long time.
cant wait to see these guys this summer :D
awesome
And 'B' side of single was So What
This is the song that sparked my interest in punk. Not really a fan of punk bands singing their punk songs in general, but I love the energy of punk when applied to great songs. Every great song should have a punk cover.
can't beat this on valentines day ,love all around
Trust me: the League's version of this song is a LOT less depressing than the folk original!!!!
I learned the original at school in English lesson and I agree that it's so depressing it makes me angry. This version is angry and lifts me up.

cool story! I thought UB40 (the band) was named after a postcode. I got a P45 recently and to me it sounds like a German pistol.
