- An afternoon of train spotting at Srirangam station near Tiruchirappalli. A surprise capture of the weekly Madurai - Bikaner AC Anuvart SF Express with the HOT Buffet Car, Chennai Egmore - Guruvayur Express and the Naagrcoil - Mumbai CSMT Express.
Srirangam (Thiruvarangam in Tamil) is an island and a part of the city of Tiruchirappalli (heart of Tamil Nadu), India. Srirangam is bounded by the Kaveri River (also known as Cauvery river) on one side, and the Kaveri distributary Kollidam (Coleroon) on the other side. Srirangam is home to a significant population of Srivaishnavites (followers of Lord Vishnu).
Srirangam has a railway station that can be reached from Chennai through any of the major trains travelling in the Chennai-Kanyakumari railway track and the approximate journey time from Chennai is about 5 hours and 10 minutes (320 km). Only selected trains stops at Srirangam and rest at Tiruchirappalli junction.
The Tiruchirappalli fort and Trichy junction which are the distance of 2 km and 8 km serves as connection point to many destinations in southern India, such as Thanjavur, Thiruvananthapuram, Chidambaram, Madurai, Tirupathi, Tuticorin, Tenkasi, Quilon, Rameswaram, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Mysore, Kochi, Kanyakumari and Mangalore. It also connects to western part of Indian cities like Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, some northern Indian cities like Jodhpur, Bikaner, New Delhi, Jammu.

SriRangam station got changed a lot. I remember, back in 90s there were only track level platform making it difficult for elders to get down or board the train. Fourth platform seems to be the latest addition.

ரங்கா ரங்கா. Nice capture. We must admire the cleanliness of SRGM station. There are very few stations in India that are so clean.
Nice to see you back with your typical comments!!, I was missing them. These days most stations are pretty clean, there is a cincerted effort to keep them clean. SR probably leads with many stations. My recent visits - Thrissur, Trichy, Katpadi, B'lore Cant validates this. Coming up next is Daytime Train spotting @ Thrissur. You will see how clean the station is!!. We still have not met!!

Srirangam is not only important for vaishnavites but all Hindus.
But Puri Jagannath Temple in Odisha is more important for all Hindus than Srirangam. Also only Hindus only allowed at Puri Jagannath Temple. What about Srirangam?

Itarsi Jn (WCR Zone- Madhya Pradesh) is an very nasty station in India. Transgenders, beggars are roaming here and there.... Very worst station! Thieves are roaming all over this station waiting for snatching!
Warning notice for South Indians going towards New Delhi/Jaipur/Ajmer/Bikaner/etc... Most of the South bound trains will pass here towards North India! Be careful!
