In the vast DC Comics Universe of superheroes, the rich mythology of Superman, the planet Krypton and the House of El is perhaps the most famous and instantly recognizable. Enter Supergirl! Born Kara Zor-El on the doomed planet Krypton, the preteen Kara escaped at the same time as the infant Kal-El but didn't arrive on Earth until many years later after being lost in the Phantom Zone. Protected and raised by her adopted family, the Danvers, Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learned to hide the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin. Years later, at age 24, living in National City and working as an assistant for Catco Worldwide Media mogul Cat Grant, Kara has spent so many years trying to fit in that she forgot to ever stand out. All that changes when she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and become the hero she was always destined to be. With the help of Daily Planet photographer James Olsen, her bioengineer sister Alex, and the research of the super-secret, off-the-grid Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO) and its head Hank Henshaw, who are tasked with keeping the Earth safe from aliens, Kara takes to the skies to protect her world. Her foes include both a sinister extraterrestrial menace and the high-tech terrestrial threat of clever villains with powerful weaponry. From Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, Supergirl premieres Mondays at 8/7c on CBS this November.

First and foremost I'm fucking excited for Supergirl. I've already seen the pilot and I can't wait for more. I know Supergirl will scrutinized and criticized for every little thing and one of the main reasons for that is because this show has a female lead. People are already complaining that she's too girly, well what's wrong with having a bubbly girly girl as Supergirl? Because to me it's perfectly fine, not every superhero needs to be hardcore, strict, and absolutely no sense of humor this is Supergirl not Batman. I may have not read the comics, but can people please be patient and wait for some character development. Supergirl isn't going to be an angry ball of rage right off the bat.
And can I just say it's about god damn time that there is finally a female representation of a superhero in the media. There has always been countless movies and TV shows of male superheroes, but to my knowledge this is the first female one and to that I say thank you Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg.
Bunnii Because Kara is not like that. I can understant in Arrow them differing from the comics because they wanted to develop Oliver slowly, as its not realistic for a character just of an island for 5 years to be funny/happy. Arrow is about Oliver's journey to becoming the Green Arrow. Supergirl is just about Supergirl. She should be angry not happy. So far she is just Superman as a girl.
Bunnii The problem Kara zor El never girly. She is despise humanity and see human as inferior species. She is not boyscout hero with smile on her face. She never put interest to live between human like Kal El, thus its reason why she not have alter ego like Kal El with Clark Kent.

I know you guys want me to compare this to Arrow and The Flash but I'm not its it own thing and I'm fine with that yeah its not perfect but for the most part I'm really liking it so far and I really like the cast and the panel. Also we all know regardless of ratings its gonna get renewed because DC wants a lot more TV Shows and i think the more it goes on the better it will get.

I completely understand why they talk about it being a female led show, but I still hate that there's such a spotlight on it. It means people won't judge the show on its own merits - it's always going to be seen through that lens.
I hope that as the show develops, that stuff fades into the background and it just becomes about the story.

It's strange really, cos back in the days of Xena, Buffy, Alias, etc, there never seemed to be so much emphasis placed on the fact that they were action/adventure shows that had a female lead. It only seems to be in recent years, and in particular in the superhero genre, that it's become such a big deal and arguably put even more pressure on a show like Supergirl to succeed.
Symon2099 your 100% right nobody bitced about Buffy.but I mean how many boy friends did she have and trying to fit in.. The problem here is to many guys are afraid of a strong female lead. Any I saw the pictures and I loved it. This show is going to be awesome
Symon2099 I think those roles were really fitting for woman. I preferably was a big Xena fan And at the time those New Zealand series were popular also.. And Xena was not the cute type at all! They compensated that with adding Gabrielle. Supergirl actually can work based on what i have seen on the pilot, but they need to give her more spunk, guts, confidence building with every new episode, yet still keep her sweet and dorky.
Sk88p I agree. I think that's the direction there going. In the pilot we saw her coming out party after hiding her abilities for 10 years she in the process of figuring out what she's caperable off. We'll find out in episode 3 when she faces her most dangerous for yet( Reactron) is the golden heart. By the way I was a huge Demand fan and there are rumors of a movie or TV show Lucy has already said she's on board.

I download the pilot few months back and it was great. It had elements from Chris Reeve films, Man of Steel etc.
Raghu Seetharaman Loved that pilot, granted I know it's not connected to the movies a part of me can't help but want Olsen to say "Yeah Superman would have loved to tell you this by himself, but he's kinda busy being in a spat with Batman, it's getting really ugly, but hey he really wants you to follow his footsteps I assure you nothing bad will happen."
***** The action sequence between Vartox and Supergirl is similar to Superman going up against Faora and one of the Kryptonian Armored Soldier.
Raghu Seetharaman Yeah you are right the two are pretty similar. I noticed that, one big connection between the two is that in their first major fight, both heroes are going against people who mention and play up on their insecurities.
Also I noticed how Hank Henshaw reminds me a lot of General Swanwick from Man Of Steel.

This could be my wild favorite from all superhero shows and i never would of believed it till episode 6,then i was hooked.
I'm very intrigued. I wasn't too impressed by the initial trailer but I've heard nothing but good things about the pilot and this panel made me see that most of the cast seems to really care about the show.
Why is Supergirl's name Kara Zor El? Jor El is the father of Kal El (Superman). Jor El's brother is Zor El. That symbol that looks like an S is the coat of arms of the House of El. Why isn't her name simply Kara El?

I LOVE CHYLER LEIGH IN THE PILOT! Cant wait to STAN the fuck out for this show! The only good dc tv show this past year has been The Flash and iZombie, Arrow and all them other shows have been garbage. But after watching this strong debut to the series, hopefully Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow can join The Flash.
Arrow is trash now, and I hope they are able to redeem a once decent show, but I'm doubtful.

Shield & Arrow yea, I got a broken leg in several places and have been put on bed rest for a while. I would not have been negative about something I'm not passionate about. I love supergirl but I can tell you now this is just a female superman, supergirl is a totally different character to the one portrayed here yet they sell the show as a supergirl show when it's really female clark kent, its also a generally messy show

So what I'm gathering from all the comments is that I'll enjoy the show because I don't know much about how Supergirl is in the comics so I'll just be watching how they portray her and not having any idea how she has been portrayed before. The only thing I disliked about the pilot episode was big confident jimmy Olsen. I don't care that he's black even though I think they just did it to appease whiny people. Jimmy can be black Asian Cuban I don't care but he should have the same personality and have the same traits as the jimmy Olsen we and love. Overall the first episode was good in my opinion. I'm excited to see where their gonna go with the show.

It's difficult to launch a female story because people keep repeating it's difficult.

But they said her being a woman is irrelevant to them, she's a hero first. That's totally not what the pilot conveys. They talk ad nauseum about the fact she is female. I think a truly modern and refreshing female hero would be one whom it isn't even noted or discussed on-screen as being female. There was no constant talk about Laurel/Sara being female in their Canary guises. Nor even the fact that Buffy was female. Supergirl pilot was the worst kind of feminism. The kind written by somebody obsessed with looking feminist but going too far to try and prove themselves.

Marvin Jefferson Perhaps someday when the show is humming along with pretty good ratings (ON CBS of all networks), the EPs can convince WB, DC, and CBS to do a TV movie or 90 min. special featuring a team-up with Batgirl similar to a late 1990s BTAS episode, if I remember correctly. But cartoons are one thing. Live action is totally another. By the way, WB Games did a decent job with Batgirl in that new DLC just released, so she is still a relevant character to promote in today's comic book fandoms.
Wesley Wayner I agree that animation is one thing & live action another, and so is TONE. This SUPERGIRL looks bright and cheesy as DAWSONS CREEK and every other TELEVISION SOAP. I would say they should rethink the audience as the BATGIRLS story is still fresh and although greatly underrated it could be HIGHLY COHESIVE with the DC big screen UNIVERSE FINALLY looking more promising.
