@@CanadianCruisin I just bought the same tires but in stock 18 size for my ford factory rims they are Much Better that the stock pirelli nero p zeros that came with the car !!! :)
The mustang can vary slightly from 87 to 91 but its like a weak tune. If I was to get a flex tune I could go all the way to e85 and it can adjust for all that. Id think even 91 would probably boost slightly because the tune would calculate right to the best number instead of fords system trying to figure it out.
So if the motor detunes itself when pumping 87, does it retune itself once I start pumping 91/94? I daily mine so I don't see the point in me constantly running on 91+. Track use or weekend warrior then I'd be pumping 94 even. But all in all, is pumping 87 really weighing me down? In terms of performance
Without actually tuning the car you won't really gain anything running 91 over 87. It's all about how fast and what temp the fuel combust at. If your daily driving it without going to hard on the car id be fine running 87 but if your going to beat on it once in a while then I'd run 91 for sure. It doesn't give you any more power it just stops any sort of damage to the engine when the rpm is way up there.
I have the pirelli zero Nero tires 18 inch skinny’s and 4.7 is my number too, I now have an H pipe and a cai so I need to try again. I use Lucas octane booster and I think I feel a difference actually I can only get 91 octane here in California though.
@@CanadianCruisin I bought the K&N black hawk looks amazing with the grey metallic paint! Was going to get the Holly one first but liked the look of the black hawk. I have whiteline lowering springs to put on still.
In Canada we have 87 and 89 these contain ethanol , we have 91 as a premium and only shell and Petro can have 0 ethanol, every where else contains erhanol and chevron 94 has 0 ethanol aswell. Higher octane doesnt equal more power it's essentially ping rating system , if your engine pings/knocks at lower octane , increase octane rating. Lower octane also burns quicker so it's better for lower compression engines, high compression engines need a slower burning fuel aka more octane to prevent pre detonation.
Its where ford has it programmed to shift in the powerbands. 1st isn't great for acceleration so as soon as the car sees your pushing it it goes straight to 2nd to get moving. If you watch some of the big mustang channels with the 10 speed cars most of the drag racing guys try to leave in 2nd just to get that extra little jump on the shifts.

@@CanadianCruisin the octane rating is referring to its resistance to combustion. the higher the number, the harder it is to ignite. you can technically get better performance with higher octane as it would not have (as much) premature detonation compared to say 87 or 89. in a round about way it will improve performance by means of improved timing but in terms of fuel for fuel there is no point in going above 91.
@@BloodyKyuzo agreed. I was more testing out that if our fuel here is not really a 91 octane, let's say it actually reads closer to the mid grade 89, then adding the 94 would kinda even out to being a pure 91. But after this test I'd say our premium must be dead on.
