- This is the new Hofner Shorty Violin Bass, just released in April of 2022. Let's talk a little bit about it and hear how it sounds with some short playing examples.

At that price I would absolutely put a P-bass pickup in the bridge position, that would make for a fairly versatile and punchy bass. My instinct is that I would even want to go gigging with it but I'd need to try it before committing to going that far. Thanks for the cool review.
LaBella is a very good brand for short scale flatwounds. Apparently their Danelectro set is really good.

Hey Brian, I know you posted this video a couple of years ago.... but I bought one of these yesterday and am over the moon with it, it's fantastic.
I just wandered what replacement strings you have to put on these, are they special shorter ones or can you put regular ones on and just cut them down?

A great replacement for the earlier modern looking Shorty bass.
I bought a hofner ignition a few years back. I don't know why it comes with roundwounds. The first thing I did was put flats on. I don't know how the sizes of your other 2 basses are compared to the ignition but that shorty seems tiny. Recently I figured out that I'm way better using a plectrum on mine. I don't know why I said plectrum. Anyway, off to the shaving video. Edit: where the hell am I? This isn't sinatralennon. Off to find you elsewhere.

I have one of the older Hofner Shorty travel bases. Love it for what it is. Wish the soft case that came with it had better padding or that they offered a hard case for it as an option. What kid of case comes with the new Hofner shorty?
I forgot to show it, but it’s also a soft case little big bag with a shoulder strap. Not bad.

What flatwounds did you put on?
this would be a perfect project bass to swap the neck out with a ubass size and stick flatwound strings on
It wouldn't work. The scale length of the Hofner is 30" whereas the scale length of a ubass is normally no more than 21"
What size flats did you put on it
Do you happen to know the exact string lenght from the ball end to the saddle? I've got some shortscale LaBella flats lying around, I thought I'll buy a bass for them. Thanks.

Would you recommend a cheaper Höfner Ignition bass rather than this shorty? The neck dive should theoretically be better on the ignition.. right?
Yes, I’d buy an Ignition or Contemporary. Both good basses and I’ve owned and played them both. I sold them only because I have the two German made 500/1’s.
