My GF just recently got a '97 Coleman Cheyenne that we want to add an AC unit too. I just today started researching adding an AC unit to it and even though I'm experienced in both automotive and residential electrical and HVAC, working on RV/camper setups is new to me, so this video was a great find to give me an idea of what all is going to be involved. Nice clean installation and great documentation in your video!
Thank you for this detailed video. I have a small RV with a precut hole, but it was never braced or wired for an AC there. This helps a whole lot with my planning of adding a AC up top. My current AC works fine, but it is a window unit and most RV parks now a days don't allow window ACs in their parks. I want to be able to travel to more places without worrying about finding a place that will allow my RV in so this project is at the top of my list.
Our factory installed Mach 3 is not wired into the converter at all. There is a separate 30a breaker box mounted under the seat. The AC cable runs to that breaker, then a 30a cord runs out the camper wall beside the 30a house power. That way, you don't need to install another receptacle or have a cord running on the open floor for a cleaner install. Probably comes out cheaper that way as well due to less hardware.
Interesting. Since AC's were never factory options, there are likely quite a few different installations from over they years. Thanks for sharing Jon!.
Be nice if there was a place in southern calif that would install this in mine. All bracing is there on my 2010 Santa Fe. Nobody seems to want to touch pop ups around here and I’m not comfortable cutting my metal roof.
Two medium sized techs on a small unit is Ok. Larger, keep it at 1 or span the roof with 6X boards to work on is my recommendation. Thanks for watching and writing!
Did you make sure to upgrade the cables and possibly the verticals? Mine is not rated for a rooftop unless you upgrade the mechanicals that raise and support the roof.
We have a 95 Coleman fleetwood Avalon that we really want to add a ac unit too. As we live in Syracuse Indiana and there are a ton of ac units for sale around here where can we find the braces at so it could support the weight do you sell them and the installation stuff that you used Also I noticed that our ceiling has 4 little spots that looks like that is where the unit would go did they usually use that to make they would make the cuts and they kinda look like they are 16 inches apart to make a square
Why wasn’t there silicone on through bolts and holes? When it was used, it as installed from the inside- how does that help the sandwiched wood from outside rain?
For the through bolts, sealing washers were factory in this kit. You can also find the instructions we followed on our website. I apologize, but I do not understand your second question. Please give us a call for assistance.
Likely. The Taos is typically a special model. They are a bit more narrow than most others. Please contact us for assistance in choosing the correct brace at colemanpopupparts.com
I have a Fleetwood Evolution and need to install a roof brace and brackets to correct for sag in roof from air conditioner. Where do I find these braces and brackets? Thanks, Art
You can find the parts list for these installs at our webstore under the accessories books for all available years and models. Please visit colemanpopupparts.com
Thanks for this! So looks like I have to buy braces separately and they are used. How many should be installed? I've got a 2005 Fleetwood Utah but not sure which rails to order.
On a Utah one installed under the air conditioner should work just fine. To check for the correct brace, take a look at your accessories parts book under the model year, measure the inside of the roof or give us a call at the office for assistance!
I have a Fleetwood Niagara. The area around the a/c is sagging. It seems the support brace was put in the wrong place. Is it possible to move the existing support brace that is installed. 250 bucks is steep for a bent piece of square tubing. Would be nicer if I could just center the existing brace
Hi, I have a 2004 Sante Fe that I want to install an A/C unit into. Supposedly it is A/C ready. For the AllumiTite roofs do I use the same channel braces for the 14" hole that is shown in the video?
I have 1998 mesa with an AC, installed before I bought it. The roof has a small sag since no braces were installed. Any advice on bracing it or can I fix the sag with braces?
I have a 2008 Fleetwood Highlander series Saratoga & am wanting to put an ac on it. I just ordered the install kit # 4755D8571. Is this the right one? Do I also need the braces?

The hardest part is drilling the first hole. After that your committed and anxiety lowers :D
Very helpful video! Is there any reason you didn't put the outlet inside the seat box for better cable management?
Yes. The outlets faces outside the cabinets so you can plug and unplug the AC
I dont doubt the braces are necessary but the roof looked strong enough for those two guys to lay on while they prepped the hole

This is sometimes required on larger units. Today’s air conditioners are a much lighter than yesterday’s as well.
Cool video. Keep the content coming!
Thanks! Will do!
thanks you so much i was able to slap one on mine
Fantastic! Thanks for sharing Nestor!
good job!
Thanks Mareya!
This is great! Curious, no roof gasket with this?
Hello Jennifer. On this unit we did not replace the roof gasket. I will have a video for the metal and filón roof gaskets coming soon for you.

this is super useful but can we all talk about how he says the word Taos?
This is how we roll in Muryland :D
how is he saying it wrong?

You sure can Tom! It should do the trick!
@@popupcamperpro awesome.. I will just figure out how to fill the old holes. Thanks for your time

You are correct Hannip1!
@@popupcamperpro Thanks! Do you know if I need the 3/4" or the 5/8" channel braces for AlumiTite roofs?
Where did you hide the air power line to unit from plug?
Jim, they commonly wrap up with Velcro, and hang from the corner.
Will these parts work in a StarCraft galaxy?
The ac equipment yes. The roof braces, measure twice and order once.
I have 1998 mesa with an AC, installed before I bought it. The roof has a small sag since no braces were installed. Any advice on bracing it or can I fix the sag with braces?
Add a brace. I’ve seen many people using uní braces in place of original ones.
Thanks, do you sell braces or do you know where I would get them. Also is the installation similar to this video?
@@scarr105 please take a look at colemanpopupparts.com
Did u redo the roof with grizzly grip
We did not Ronnie.
What is grizzly grip? Never heard of it !
Do I need channel braces for a 2005 fleetwood highwall niagara?
To add or support an A/C yes.
@@popupcamperproI already have 2 braces that run across. Would you know what size that i would need?
@@michaelota5167perhaps your referencing a/c channels? If so 5/8 is the most common

@@popupcamperpro yes we have
Why not direct wired?
Because of the power cord and opening / closing the camper.
