Loved this video. One more thing to check (which I learned from watching). Make sure you do not put the blade back on backwards. (which i did). The saw won;t cut. lol. Thank you again. Great video
I’m new to using power tools and this was spoken in a manner I understood. I was about to return it until I saw this video. Thank you so very much- it’s perfect now 😊
Thank you very much. This is so carefully explained; it helped me a lot your explanation on the tension screw was great. I could not figure out or distinguish which one it was! Thank you 🙏🏼 awesome video
This was perfect! So helpful, and I didn't have to bother anyone else to help me with it. 💯 I was also today years old when I learned it needed oil. Done!
On a serious note, Good video. I bought one at a garage sale for &7. The chain was backward, and dull, and I thought I was missing a screw. Now I know it's the oiler.
Yooo... Your directions... Literally explained it better compared to the manual guide got sunjoes chainsaw... They don't mention the other wrench. Thank you so much I can't wait to with on my yard now
Thank you bought a Portland chain saw and I was adjusting the chain too tight. I did get dirt in it cutting t close to the stump. Thank You for a good video.
Excellent video! I liked it very much and actually started adopting your technique. Thank you very much for explaining with clarity and excellent videography. I used to install the chain a bit loose for years and finally messed up my chain. I replaced the chain and adjusted the chain tension. The tension adjusting screw is a bit wobbly; I am not sure how long it will retain the tension. In addition I need to replace the oil seal rubber gasket since a portion (on top side) of it is torn and oil leaks out. Thank you for your time to create this wonderful video and sharing it. Keep it up. Hats off to you, Sir!
You are one of the best teachers I have seen on the Internet! Very clear and concise information with no clutter. I have interviewed countless technical SMEs in my career. I wish they had been all as organized in their thinking and communication as you are. I hope you teach or train in your professional life. You have a real gift.
This was helpful. I'm almost 64, and trying to get my new electric oregon saw going. So far unsuccessful after priming the motor, I don't seem to be able to get the chain re-installed correctly. I will try your tips. Thanks !
Thank you for the great video. I bought a used and older version of this saw, but regardless the information transferred fine. I appreciate the time you took, thank you.
Thanks so much for this clear, easy to follow, instructional video. My chain came off my new chain saw the first time I used it and NOW I know how to put it back on and adjust it.
Thanks, I learned quite a bit. I have an older Poulan pl1416 but it appears to be similar to the one you used. I would like to have seen something on the actual oiler pump and how it works. I will however check out some of the things you showed on the oiler outlet on the bar. I think it is plugged & oil is pumping but leaking all over the saw.
Hi, around the 830 mark when you were adjusting the tension and it wasn't right and you adjusted it again I didn't notice the difference if you could maybe show it thanks
I have an Earthworks pole saw and I imagine the chainsaw works the same as the HF demonstrated here. Your video was a huge help adjusting the chain and I wanted to stop by to saw thank you.
I bougth a 14amp Bauer from the same place and after adjusting the chain it jumped off after the second cut on a tiny branch. So I reseated the chain and I don't understand this spring thing at all... I can't clamp down the blade at all, it slops around. Did they include the right Allen wrench with this or do I have to hunt one up? I'm blind so I can forget reading the manual or looking at those pictures.
This really helped me understand how my pole saw works and figure out my exact problem. I can’t get enough tension on my chain. It just won’t tighten the slack. What do I do in this case?
Hello thank you for your video. My chainsaw was misused in last fall to cut hedge so it was blocked by some small twigs and leaves, I had cleaned those before storing it in winter. But I find it cannot start when I take it out yesterday. It is an electrical type. Could you please suggest what the problem would be? Thanks a lot.
I have a Poulan electric chainsaw model ES300 and need to replace the drive gear since motor runs but chain doesn't. do you have a video or instructions on how to do this? this model doesn't have a brake and looks like you'd have to disassemble the motor side (my guess). thanks for any guidance.
This is great, man. I was worried about that little bolt cap, on the outside of the housing. It won’t go back, but looks like you didn’t have it/don’t need it.
adjusting the center nut is the issue I have . Then the adjust for the hex part too. I tried both ways but eventually, after a while the chain comes off and its not as easy as it looks to replace . Also the small hex adj gets all clogged up after cutting and is kinda hard to clean the space to put the hex bar in to adjust! How long does the chain last when you use it without it popping off? How straight does the bar need to be and should it have a little play ? Great video though. ! Also does the adjusting nut need to be in a certain distance to start when you put the cover on ? My cover doesnt get flush with the chain its a little elevated .
I loved all the information about the inner workings operate but do you really have to remove the cover to tighten the chainsaw? Can't you just back off on the bolt a bit and then use hex to adjust chainsaw tension?
The part that grabs the trunk seems to be of a wide plastic which doesn't allow the saw to bear down on the wood as much a thin metal-toothed part would. I wish you'd demonstrate this saw.
Any advice for when the gear stops turning? I have a WEN 40V (only about a year old) and after a bigger job, the gear suddenly has stopped turning. It will stutter for a few seconds, then stop - never completely turning over.
Hello and Thank You for your comment. It's not normal for a chain to "smoke" while cutting, unless it's really dull. Usually chains get dull VERY fast if they hit dirt (even for a second or two) or if trying to cut through a "dirty" piece of wood. If the chain is otherwise in good condition, it can be sharpened, most hardware stores and home centers have the files for around $7, but if they're old a new chain and/or bar may be a better fix. Anyway, hope this helps, and Good Luck with your chainsaw!
Nice demo. I always have difficulty putting the chain the right way. Putting it backward does not cut anything at all with my chainsaw. I have another issue, which is very bothersome, and that is the chain comes off every so often.
Do you know why a portland would get stuck in the on position? Like the safety button and trigger don't work, I put my foot in the handle like a gas one and plug it in. Then just step on the extention when ready to turn off. Seems fine but it would be nice if it worked as intended.
There was a recall on the older Portland chainsaws because the switch was sticking in the on position. My understanding is if you return it back to Harbor Freight they will exchange it for a new updated model. Even without a recent, no questions asked.
Does it matter which way you put it on ? Like which way the words face ? You have it facing in the video so you can't read the words from the right. It looks like it can go either way. Maybe that's a silly question, but I'd figure I'd ask. The picture on the box has it going the other way.
My electric homelite chain saw is oiling too much I think. Because i filled the resiviour then made five cuts or so on a small tree and it was ready to refill again?
They do use a lot of oil. Just use cheap engine oil . I do and my chainsaw is ten years old. Some even use old engine oil when you change it on your car .
Always make sure the chain is running before you start cutting. Also never hit a nail because it will destroy the plastic sprocket. They are made to shear so it doesn't burn up the motor. Good luck trying to find a replacement sprocket!
I got one of these and it was working great until the chain loosened. I followed the instructions but the chain wouldn't tighten. I actually ended up tightening the allen screw to a point where it broke through the plastic housing. I am going to return it but even after tightening it that much the chain was still loose. I'll grab another one but curious if you had any ideas on this?
Thank you! Couldn't figure out why my chainsaw was kicking, but now I know. I had the chain on backwards. Didn't know about the visual in the saw. Thank you for your great explanations!
I've said it once and I'll say it again.
How to video makers are the best creators on the internet.
That goes for you too sir.
Thank you! My dad always maintained my electric chain saw. Since he passed away, I've had to learn a lot of things. You do a great job of explaining.
Thank you because I was struggling and ready to rent one. Now I can fix my own and use oil 😅
Thanks to you, i bought a craftsman chain saw and I need help to align the chain and your video is the only one I found that helped me. Thanks again

I recently purchased a chainsaw, never used one before so am watching your channel to learn what I can... thanks✅
Thank you for helping this ole farm girl out. Never could use gas saw b/c so left handed. This saw is perfect around the farm house.
Thanks! Glad you liked the video!
Thank you for clear, plain spoken information. Even an old woman can understand and follow. You completely demystified my little saw!

Excellent. You just helped me put my saw back together. The men didn't know how.
I needed this video becaúse the cheap Chinese Li Ion saw I ordered came with zero instructions. Great explanation. Cheers.
On a serious note, Good video. I bought one at a garage sale for &7. The chain was backward, and dull, and I thought I was missing a screw. Now I know it's the oiler.

Wow! Thank you so much for the valuable information!!
Great video. My saw was full of compacted chipping under that plastic cover. Also ur tip on reinstalling the chain with marker was great. Thanks.
Thanks great info. answered all my questions.
Great job very good explanations and good tips
Simple explanation and super clear visuals. Subbed!
Great.. You walked me through easily and answered all my questions. Perfect.. Thanks
Thanks ... getting ready to use my Portland pole saw for the first time today. First time using a chain saw too. Very helpful Steven. SJ

Thks Doc 👌 you made a great 👍video on this 👏
Chian saw.. even I could understand.. because I'm not very hands on with chain saws.

Exelent video great info thanks a bunch
thank you so mach perfect video
You're welcome!
Good video! Mine is a different brand, my first as well, but there was a lot of good info for me, I hope! Thanks, Jake
Oh my goodness I'm in love with your voice and your video thank you so much for doing such a great wonderful job

Thanks for all info
Trying to get a replacement chain for this but none seem to fit anyone know where I could get a new one for this brand
Thanks, helped out a lot

Hi! What is the best oil to used on electric chainsaw?
Please make a video on how to sharpen this chain, thank you.
Nicely explained. Good hints for me as I bought a new chainsaw.
Thanks a lot.
Tehseen
can you direct me to the exact type of oil this model uses? i have one but i picked up from a pawn shop so i don't have a manual.
Is there a specific type of oil for the this chainsaw?
There is a washer somewhere in chain assembly but can’t find where it is placed.I know the bolt/nut tightens on the thread.Any ideas?
I loved all the information about the inner workings operate but do you really have to remove the cover to tighten the chainsaw? Can't you just back off on the bolt a bit and then use hex to adjust chainsaw tension?
You don't have to remove the cover to tension the chain, but he was also showing how to install the bar & chain, & how to clean inside.
Well done, I have a Remington, I can't get the cover to fit correctly, after taking it apart. but this video helps
Lol
Hi...should the Oregon logo be on the inside and not showing? Also what type of oil can be used to lubricate it?
Use only bar & chain lube.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO MAN!!
No problem! Glad it was helpful!
The part that grabs the trunk seems to be of a wide plastic which doesn't allow the saw to bear down on the wood as much a thin metal-toothed part would. I wish you'd demonstrate this saw.
Muy buena demostración!
Question:
Do you have to remove the oil after using it?
Thank you very much!
That was going to be my question too.
@@RawFitChris He asked for question at the end... 10mo ago and not answer Lol 🤣
I have a Greenworks & the manual says to remove the oil or it may leak out when you store the saw.
@@WindOfTheWisp_Janine ok gracias!
Thank you! VERY helpful video!
How do I know what size blade fits a Remington EL-7?

It looks like it can go either way.
Maybe that's a silly question, but I'd figure I'd ask.
The picture on the box has it going the other way.
It does either way. They recommend that you flip it every so often so it will prevent warping of the bar.
I have this saw....the chain has stopped spinning. When you first fire it up, it will spin once or twice and then done. Can you help?
Have you tried to tighten the chain with an Allen key?
I want to ask you does harbor freight carry the oil for the chainsaw? I couldn't find any. I don't even know if its called chainsaw oil or bar oil.
They don’t carry it. Just go to Walmart in the car oil section and get a gallon of SAE 30 Bar and Chain oil for $9.99.
Mine came with bar and chain oil
Good informative video. Thanks.

Yes. You must loosen the cover plate nut as it clamps the chain bar and makes adjusting with the hex bolt impossible
