How Did This Animal Survive Extinction In Dubai?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 20 тра 2024
- Have you heard of the Arabian Oryx? If you haven't, it's probably because they were once declared extinct!
This symbol of the Arabian Peninsula was almost completely lost when declared extinct in the early 1970s due to poaching. Since then, there's been a heroic conservation effort, raising its status from "extinct" to "vulnerable" with plans to circulate the rehabilitated population of Oryx around the UAE. These antelope creatures, hunted for their tusks, have developed incredible survival adaptations for living in the desert climate, and are an emblem for the resilience of Arabic history.

The Arabian Oryx is the original comeback kid, all thanks to conservation efforts.👏 What’s the most interesting fact you know about an animal in the wild? 👇
Their presence, however significant it is, has an impact on the entire ecosystem
Tigers can growl in such high frequency that it can immobilized some animals including people 🐅
Could you elaborate what happened to the sheep, goat, and camel farmers who had been in the region? Have then been relocated, compensated, or just been sent away?
The takahe
The goat survived extinction because the goat is the greatest of all time.
🐐
amen
Too funny

@@Rattus446 hi
We drove on the outskirts of Dubai last week, and we saw a group of them at night. I’m really impressed, as they are seen near residential areas.
"Why did this animal go extinct?"
Humans. It's always humans.
the worst virus ever achieved on the planet
they lived in the desert and it was the only source of food for them so yeah.
Not always. However, the current mass extinction event is due to humans, mostly.
Always a good day when Great Big Story posts.

Great piece, always happy to see y'all are back :)
Thank you 🥹
@@GreatBigStory Like the Arabian Oryx!
Agreed. I was upset when they folded around the time of the pandemic. I'm glad to have these videos back.
Amazing story told with beautiful footage. Loved the enthusiasm of the conservation manager - may we all get to do something that we are excited to grow up to do!
That last quote is truly inspiring
Man one of the biggest flexes in life is getting to say how much u love your job. I envy them
They're so beautiful.
Ikr! They look so majestic and mythical ✨
This was beautiful to watch. Also always great to see a new upload from you guys.

love the new intro ♥
Wow UAE care about life ,but they miserably failed to provide reasons for why they supported transport of goods for Israel when houthi blockade happened and why they still have a diplomatic relationship with Israel
I was starting to wonder where all your videos went!!! Glad you are back!
thank you for making this video! those long tusk looks great!
This story made my day, thank you for sharing ❤
Ooo! Welcome back!🎉🎉🎉
increasing numbers of species like oryx will also help the critically endangered Arabian leopard by giving it another source of food. The reduction in native ungulates has put the leopard in conflict with humans as it is now forced to hunt livestock like goats and young camels instead of native animals like Arabian gazelle and young oryx
always makes me so happy seeing you guys post since you've came back
You guys are back and I didn't know? Your videos didn't even appear on my page. Anyway welcome back guys, good luck again.
I'm so happy you guys are back from extinction as well. Loved your videos, very educational.
Wonderful ❤
Such beautiful animals!
Nature is amazing
Sooo beautiful!
Oh hey, welcome back 😊
his smile said everything about his job.
Lekker boer seun🙌
I saw those at Al Maha resort in 2022 It's cool now to see this story about them
I lived in UAE for nearly 25 years, It's kinda sad that the only time I've seen them is on a Aed50 bill.
Gerhard as all of the accents in one, very cool!
100% sounds like an Afrikaaner (South African) that is losing his accent
Lol that what a South African is
South African Afrikaner accent
wait great big story is back??
They've been back since a year ago I think
We are indeed 🚀🚀
How come i've only seen their videos now!? UA-cam's algoritm is bonkers
GBS are back since 15 feb 2023, after 2 years gone. time to go catch up! its great!
@@ghifariasoka8272 Literally a year, but sure.
أنه رائع وجميل ❤❤
The Arabian Oryx is the true goat of the world. I would like to meet one someday. This gives me hope that with enough skill, hope, and practice, all is not lost for an extinct animal. These animals deserve love and respect. 💖❤🩹♥
If only the leaders of this country cared about their brothers and sisters in Filistine as much as they cared about these beautiful Oryx..
They supported their neighbour Saudi Arabia in killing Yemenis not long ago.
What an extraordinary story! Thanks for this micro documentary.
Also, please do a micro documentary on the Chatham Island Robin:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Old_Blue_(robin)?wprov=sfti1
All of this species descends from one female, “Old Blue,” who lived 10 years longer than expected and worked with conservationists to repopulate a near extinct species.
What about the south island takahe.
it's a message to all conservationists that it's possible to bring back animals from the brink of extinction (with the nigh unlimited funding of UAE royalty)
What a beautiful creature. So glad better sense prevailed on the "sheikhs"
Lekker boet. Good to see a Saffa making a difference
i will always call that animal
QATAR AIRWAYS
What a happy story! I love animals and it makes me so hopeful to see conservation success stories. Thank you GBS!
WONDERFUL!
HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS MUST BE MOST PROUD.

شنو اسمه بالعربي؟
اسمه المها العربي
Does *daily* feedings by humans qualify these oryx as wild? I don't think we would usually do that in conservationist terms, especially if the herds are limited in the area they can roam, too.
when u love your job
They are also found in Namibia
Gemsbok not the same as Arabian oryx - there are 4 sub species
Nothing like a little animal conservation project to distract from the continued destruction of our natural environment wrought by those who have a massive stake in the unsustainable and highly volatile oil industry! Gotta love the UAE! 😍😍❤❤
Poison and cure from the same source.
You never explained why the chose Arizona (and why not Rajasthan in India) and how did they adapt in USA...
Temperature is similar and people wont be tempted to kill and eat them😊
@@promise72 And how Rajasthan's temperature is not similar?? Like India is not that far from UAE
The real reason is that UAE and Saudis have a huge interest in Arizona, they bought the land there. Whereas they are not allowed to buy land in India due to government intervention.
The simple answer is that Arizona is practically empty. Rajhastan and Arizonna have a similar surface ara, but Rajhastan has around 10 times as many people. Arizona just has more empty desert, which can thus be acquird in large quantities very cheaply.
Their horns are exquisite
I wonder if they are putting seed in their feed so they can spread it naturally and help the growth process.
They are my favorites here at the Phoenix Zoo!
They grew up in captivity and then brought back to the wild when they had sufficient numbers already
Imagine if we applied this thinking to the most vulnerable among humans... We already do, but it's not nearly cutting it.
So what is the moral of the story? You move them to a small zoo abroad and then place them back in in a larger zoo where they get fed?
Let's hope their natural predators come back too
Knowing people who still like to herd their camels, sheep, and goats, that may be hard
Sadly the same cannot be said about the Arabian Lion that went completely extinct.
Hopefully it can be revived using genetic engineering.
I want a pet Oryx, named Ollie! 🐐
So do we! Ollie is a cute name 🥹
Evidence of the once Greater Africa.
maybe they can import them to the line
but can they swim?
You didn't mention all tghe ones released in the white sands of New Mexico
How easily he said we took away those farms
the goat of thrones 😂
Dubai, here I come 🎉

Do South Africans need subtitles? 🤔 I can understand the man just fine…
They call them a GOAT for a reason
cuz they built different
GBS Nice 🐂
How it can be considered as "unicorn" when it has 2 horns?
myth would have the sellers showing and claiming ONE horn only, to the unsuspecting buyer!!
Also looking at one from the side or a distance might make someone think there is only one horn
so this is the animals of Religion of Peace!
Desert Unicorn????unicorns don't exist and even in imagination they only have 1 horn???????
As usual human is the reason for ecent extinction of all other beings
So basically these are kinda Arizonians 😂
I have a question how do you guys stay in business when these videos make negative income
Getting arab oil money for making glorified fluff pieces helps
me first
Tenth
Second
first
nuh uh
This is so disappointing. You should have done your research better before coming out with this story. The sultanate of Oman was the first country to have a natural reserve dedicated to preserving the Arabian Oryx
No matter who does it first as long as the oryx survived
@@m.ansoori240 Oryx aside. Accurate and factual journalism is pretty important mate
They put the oryx on money, Durhams I believe
For once oil money being spent on good cause.
emiratis cant even have their own conservator lmao. literally imports everything, and muslims think uae and saudi are some significant power
gorgeous animal - sad the human virus mostly destroyed them
Dubai? You mean Doodoo?
STOP SAYING FIRST
He sounds Australian
Listen carefully that is a South African accent
Do you really need English subtitles if someone is making the effort to speak English?
Hey 👋 Thanks for your question! We add subtitles to make our videos easier to follow and more inclusive. We also recognize that some of our viewers may be deaf or have hearing impairments. So, we want our videos to be accessible for our audiences. 🙌
the hardcoded subtitle does help with someone who doesnt really comprehend nasal voices, considering his accent are quite deep
As someone whose first language isn't English, yes! I appreciate every producers who bothered to put subtitles in their videos.
Closed captioning?
And if we’re being honest here, there are no subtitles for native English speakers. Maybe deaf people can hear them?
stop being a puppet
If you have money, anything is possible. Nothing new to see here.
