First of all Jon i just want to say thank you i hadn't gone fishing in over 3 years since my dad left and you've just made me want to go fishing. I went today and caught a total of around 6 fish 2 surf Perch 1 Rock Crab and the rest Rockfish was so much fun just wanted to say Thank you for the great content.
Nothing like trout fishing in skinny water!
And creek smallmouth fishing ;) Pulled a 2.5 pounder out of 2 feet of water yesterday!

I took the opportunity to go to Alaska for my first time ever this past July. Not only is the fishing absolutely amazing, but the views are breath taking.

I find it cool that you set the hook using your rod as compared to doing a strip set, I’ve always found it easier to hook them and to do it in smaller areas.

I love my Sage Reel and i gotta tell you. It feels good seeing that reel being used on some good sized trout.
Jon B you after you cast you need to keep the line in your left hand under your forefinger and against the rod handle all the times. Then you strip the line with your left hand . This keeps the slack out of your line, thus allowing the fish to shake off the hook. Try it and you will see your catching improve. Awesome vid!!

Gotta love fishing the Bristol Bay Area! Being that close to iliamna lake means your rainbows are just gonna get bigger. Next time you should hit up katmai! Or better yet some deep Alaskan peninsula fishing! If you need a place I have many recommendations through my family experience in Alaska guiding

setting the hook like its your baitcaster setup!!! Hahaha I missed a bunch of fish in Alaska this year doing that. They guides were calling me a Bill Dance wanna-be. They finally cemented into my brain to just mend the line so there is no slack then go straight up with that rod and set that sucker
