Wow, this brings new meaning to The Stanley Brother's song lyrics, "I am a Pilgrim, and a Stranger..."

It so very rare to see certain things, but the Leiden congregation bought the Speedwell. The Mayflower was bought by the.Merchant Adventurers, (70 business men from England.). It was the merchant adventurers who allowed the pilgrims on board. The Speedwell, after a rough trip from Leiden, still made 2 more attempts. After leaving Dartmouth and going 300 miles, they had to return to Plymouth. It was there that they boarded the Mayflower. It was an already crowded ship and only took on 12 more. There must have been other Puritans or Separatists on board because it was about 1/2 and 1/2.

I am related to the Billingtons. A dubious honor. I talked to a lady who had relatives from the Mayflower and told her I was related to the Billingtons. She turned her back to me and talked to another. I guess the crimes of your ancient ancestors transfer to the ones alive now.

My family were the Brewster`s. I do not know who the Billingtons were, but I am glad to make your acquaintance. All of our ancestors struggled and toiled together for survival, and I`m glad your family made it this far. I have discovered in my life that people who are acting snobby are most usually covering something up. Pay no attention to whoever that foolish woman was. She was probably a social climber. Enjoy your summer.

Your Billington family added the drama! :) So much less boring with a Billington around.

      Sometimes less drama is good.

John Billington is my 11 great grandfather. I just found out last night. I was all excited-and then I did a little reading. Yikes! All the same, Francis turned out okay. And if it weren’t for the rapscallions, you and I wouldn’t be here! So, hello, cousin!

Missing a lot of information about Stephen Hopkins. Left out he was shipwrecked in Bermuda on the way to Jamestown.

As a direct decendant of Phillip Delano (De Lanoy) Its nice to see the truth told without slander! My family funded the New Fortune and paid of many familys debts that were owed to that nasty crown of England!

They weren’t necessarily “nonbelievers;” they were likely traditional Church of England.

What the scallop? They weren't non believers! They were the Vicars of the English Christ Church and some of their congregation fleeing dictation of the crown.

How about a documentary on the people who came in 1608, to manakintown Virginia on the James river? They were in the de la muse expedition of 3 ships at that time! They were French huegenots!! What became of the town and its people? What about the huegenot faith and it’s future in the Virginia country side!
