Extraordinary. Exceptional. I have no doubt Bruce has seen this and, like the rest of us, was exceptionally moved by this gorgeous but painful rendition. The emotion is this performance...man always loved Living Colour but this kicked it up a notch. Stunning!
I don’t know how I’ve never seen this version of, what I think, was Bruce’s most important song. American Skin never fails to get to me, but THIS, my God. The raw emotion and pain in this version was overwhelming.
This was a profound Song ... the reality of Us as Black Americans! Thanks for the tears Corey! But America, we are tired tho. Living Colour keep standing for righteousness. B1# *NewFace Magazine LV Team Las Vegas!
I have few words... Corey’s heroic baring of his pain as he realized and inhabited this performance is hard to watch without crying and I couldn’t. Heroic vulnerability. Respect and my heart to all involved. Thank you.
My god this song is deep....."If a officer stops you, promise me you'll always be polite, and you'll never run away and keep you hands in sight". I don't know if folks ever had this told to them by a parent....14 year old black teenager street 101 lesson. You better learn it fast and learn it well!!
One of the best cover songs ever, and that is a bit ironic considering that Bruce is always wonderful, and respectful when covering other artists songs. A marvelous song, and a wonderful cover.
Beautiful song that holds so much meaning. We adopted our son from guatemala and I played Bruce's version to him and asked him to take it to heart and please follow it's meaning. Unfortunately it's 22 years later and not much, if anything, has changed.
I was at this show and was blown away by their performance. This cover in particular stuck with me. Had a great, carefree trip. Crazy to think that 9/11 was only 50 days later.
What makes it worse is that people would probably call this "Unamerican" to sing in the wake of Sept. 11th. Bruce himself had the NYPD threaten that they wouldn't provide security if he performed this at MSG, and they did turn their backs on him and refuse to escort him afterwards.
Just seen this clip for my first time, I am a huge fan of this song Sung by the boss, but these guys have delivered a fabouls rendition of it. Bruce just knows how to write a damm good song.
Huge Bruce fan, and have always liked these guys. Man I had to keep watching after the song ended, in my head telling the guys in the band, “Someone please go hug Corey”, thank you, for doing it.
This is such an excellent cover. Obvious the Boss is the Boss and his is awesome. But I love them both equally. LC sings it from a perspective that they totally can connect to as black men and Bruce writes it from the perspective as someone who simply understands the twisted logic and reasoning of our country when it comes to skin colour and his lyrics and passion every time he sings this is fire to the soul. Everytime I hear Bruce repeat, "You can get killed just for living in," I crumble.

I mean, like, when The Boss sings it, it's emotional and I kinda start grooving ("is it a gun, is it a knife" has a catchy rhythm and the ESB makes everything rock). When Glover sings it I have to find a corner to hide in and cry.
mike brown was thug, stop glorifying this criminal. The song is about Amadou Diallo. Google him, instead of being ignorant.#BlackLivesMatterWhenIFeelLikeit
You are an ignorant racist shit. How dare you presume to know what I do and don't know? And who are you to call Michael Brown a thug? He was shot in the back multiple times while NOT engaging in any criminal activity. #BlackLivesMatter because they are Human Beings you fuck.
Katie Logan if you are going to comment, get your facts straight. Autopsy showed he was shot in the front, charging the officer. What can I tell you...I absolutely worship both Bruce and LC...don't care 'bout better or worse versions...the important thing for me it's the fact of an african american act performing with such emotion this hymn against race violence written by a legend from Jersey, who happens to be white...
As many times I've seen people type the opposite... Corey Actually IS genuinely crying.. and what an incredible performance this is. Thank you for posting this. Brilliant.
saw lc 2 hours ago tonight in hamburg, germany. they performed a very emotional version of tracy chapman´s "talkin´ bout a revolution". keeps me awake that night. take care
Honestly, who cares what the guitar sounds like? Or even who's version is better? I do personally like Bruce's version better, as far as musically. But this is probably the best, most poignant performance I've ever seen of this song, based on emotion alone.
@@kingfishblues59 beautifully said. People complain about the guitar sound? For those people who complain, it's called "Playing with Emotion and backing off when it should be", or, for those have never heard of it, DYNAMICS. that alone is enough. Incredible musicians, beautiful rendition and it is HONEST.
Right up next to the original version , Living Colour doesn’t just cover it , but takes a huge chunk of it for their own, The lyrics, the emotion, the empathy in one of their best performances…thanks for the upload.
Actually, Vernon was having technical issues with the guitar (the signal kept cutting out - I'm guessing a faulty input jack). Vernon was playing it fine, the sound just kept dropping out. If you can't get past the fact that the guitar isn't technically perfect and you can't hear and feel the emotion pouring out of this performance, I can't help you. Maybe when you grow up a little you will understand.
Es muy dificil que un persona de color norteamericana no tenga casos parecidos muy cercanos. Es extraordinario verle embargado por la emoción e intentando cantar mientras se escucha el traqueteo de la batería.
American Skin (41 Shots) a protest song concerning an incident between the New York Police Department and an immigrant, Amadou Diallo, in 1999. The alternate title of Springsteens song is 41 shots, a refrain that rings throughout, representing the forty-one bullets fired by four police offers that killed Diallo.
An amazing version of a powerful and poignant song. This is very moving and powerful. It helped me understand the issues behind the song in a much more visceral way. I think that's what great art can do....and LC and Bruce are both great artists.
Corey actually had an unnerving experience with the police over 30 years ago. Two police cars came screaming down the road and came to a dead stop right in front of him. If one of the officers hadn't recognized him, the situation could have become life-threatening very quickly.
Holy shit... Vernon Reid just tweeted this video, a video that I uploaded! I am honored (not that I had anything to do with the performance, but still). RIP Trayvon Martin. @vurnt22 (Twitter)
