I haven't had a story that actually made me tense up and make me nervous in a long time. For some reason this story made me feel really uneasy. Maybe childhood fear of the simple monster in the woods and under your bed. The detailed descriptions from the author make it very easy to imagine as well, so that helps add to the nightmare fuel. Great job with the narration as always.

The weird sexual creepiness is actually a really interesting, and potentially effective horror tool. I think part of the trick to good horror is just knocking the reader/listener/viewer off-balance, mentally, by unnerving them in ways they didn't expect - and this creature was really fucking unnerving

Man, that's insane! People jump to conclusions from the farthest distances sometimes. Logic seems to be optional for those kinds of people. Sucks you had to endure that crap. In all truth and reality, being labeled a Pedo is probably the single worst accusation against one's character. At least, IMO. And so many people throw that around, accusing people of being one, for the simplest, and often, unrelated things. Its messed up. I hope it quieted down for ya relatively quickly after you took down the story. Too bad it even came to that. You shouldn't have had yo. But I understand why you did. I would have likely done the same.

You really of have a great voice for somber stories. Though you do a great job with a lot of non-somber stories as well. I think the fact that you create your own music for the stories you read, really makes that true, as you can design the music for the story. I guess what I'm saying is, I love your stuff and keep up the amazing work.

  • @Sophie-ex4fw

Loved the story! As always, the way you narrated kept me on edge the whole time. The most fun thing for me now is figuring out what this story could be actually about. I‘m pretty sure that it is about childhood trauma. But what exactly happened to him? The house he found in the forest seemed to be a memory directly from his childhood. The reasons the windows were so high up was because that’s how a small child would perceive them. Was the creature he stumbled upon supposed to represent someone who hurt him as a child? Its human eyes referring to an actual person? Could that person be his mother who’s voice it imitates in the end? What did she do to him? The weird sexual nature of the creatures speech indicates sexual abuse. Also the creature „drinking his urine“ could be what a confused young child that is sexually abused would see. Maybe I’m reading too much into this but I nonetheless find it amazing how the author wasn‘t afraid to actually make the reader uncomfortable an potentially even tackle hard topics like this. Especially since it is often overlooked that men can be the victim of rape too.

This story was perfectly narrated but it was horrifying for me, because your brilliant portrayal of Alex really resonated with me. Truthfully (and bizarrely), I was absolutely petrified of tree stumps. My parents were initially shocked, then mystified, when at only 2 years old, I went from a smiling, happy toddler to a sobbing, shaking wreck as my parents parked in front of my favorite aunt’s house, and I saw the tree stump that had been between the sidewalk and the curb since my aunt and uncle moved there 3 yrs prior. At that age, I couldn’t explain what scared me; all I could do is point and sob. As first time parents, they were astounded by my unprecedented melt down, but let it go when I immediately calmed down once we were inside. But as soon as I realized they were getting ready to leave, I became so upset that my parents had to cover my head and my big brave fire fighter uncle held my hand in order to get me back in the car. That intense fear overwhelmed me every time we visited my aunt & uncle while they lived at that house. When I was about 4, my cousins begged me to spend the night with them, and I reluctantly agreed, but my poor dad had to come get me at 3am when I woke up screaming about that damn tree stump. Thankfully, my aunt & uncle moved a year later, but my fear continued. I only remember unexpectedly coming across one more tree stump in a park and had the same violent reaction. At some point I outgrew the fear, but I vividly remember my phobia 60+ years later. Ironically, we just had to have the huge oak tree which sat in the middle of our front yard cut down due to disease, and every time I’m near the remaining stump, I find myself trying to figure out why I was so frightened of something so natural. Trust me, I know how weird this must sound; in fact, I’ve never shared my experiences until now. As a historian, I’ve often wondered if I might have been decapitated on a tree stump in a previous life, but now I find myself wondering if I too met a monster lying across a tree stump, waiting to torture and murder me? I do know this; sometimes truth IS stranger than fiction!😊💓

The way I see it, this story could be an allegory for the lingering trauma Alex may have gotten from a childhood of sexual abuse, possibly from his mother given the monster mimicking his mothers voice. The animal could be his own personal boogeyman of sorts, a collection of the fear and confusion he had to go through, still lingering behind him as an adult, always watching.

The best part of your narrations is the sound effects. how you did the forest floor of Alex running, the teeth clattering and the finger tapping makes it so real.

Your voice is probably my favorite part of these stories. Its smooth, soothing yet full of emotion and horror when it needs to be. You and NaturesTemper are my absolute favorite nararrators

Oh my God it's been a long time since I've shuddered out of horror from a narration and this one got me. I'm so glad I listened to this in the morning and not at night

First of all...the Story!! An amazing job at tickling that old fear that we remember, from when we were children. Very well written. A really great story.
Now you!! Man...the way your read that one, reminds me of the one that brought me to your channel. Something walks whistling past my house, at 3am. (May have gotten the title wrong? But you know the one of which I speak) not sure you read all of these, but I REALLY want you to know how much I appreciate the depth of what you do. Your music is spot on! I believe I've been through your entire lexicon, and after familiarizing myself with your cadence, I can anticipate the moment that the music will expand to meet the moment. You really are a talent, brother...and now you've brought along that adorable Rom! Thank you for what you do. I'd much rather listen to the two of you, as any other entertainment! You really do excell!!

Holy Crap, man. What a great one! I love your music, it always seems to fit PERFECTLY. Also, you do a REALLY good job at creepy voices, insane/twitchy/scary/spine-tingling voices! I felt like I died when the animal at the Stump talked... that style of voice always reminds me of Blue Jay from the Left/Right Game when she starts going crazy in the woods. (Side note: The Left/Right Game story is my number one all time favorite narration ever! It's SOO FRICKIN GOOD! I would love to hear you narrate "Penpal". Creeps and Mrcreepypasta both did good jobs on it, and I would absolutely LOVE to see your take on it

The writer of this story was extremely clever, to use the the word stump in reference to the tree stump and the stump of his leg. Makes you really think if the title meant the tree or his leg for the true purpose of the title. Another great story Somnium

The sound effects and music are really well timed and chosen, if a little distracting. When the main character saw a figure looking at him from the cottage near the beginning, the sudden swell in sound made it much more dramatic and that was when I really noticed the sounds.
