Fiji welcome, friendly people, yes all very true, but it should be possible just to have a friendly chat leaning across the counter of his shop rather than sitting in a hidden corner. Friendliness means openness. And it certainly doesn’t mean making you feel bad about not wanting to partake in the “hospitality”.

Big ups to you for being smart enough to avoid that guy who tried to sit you down for a whatever he said it was. I hope you enjoy Fiji and the people because its a beautiful place. PS when you done with cycling Fiji, try Rotuma island - you can cycle around in 2
hrs but the experience will last for years! :) safe travels !!

I have friends from there,It is rude to refuse a welcoming ceremonial talk,The fijian people are very kind and will not hurt u so u can trust them.
How do you get to the Nadi city from the hotels? Are there buses to get take you there
uncomfortable but probably the right thing to do :)
Sorry the sitting down offer scared you but traditionally to show respect the Fijians show hospitality through a big bowl of grog sitting down in a circle around it...I guess he wanted to be in a long talk lol...people are shy to be on camera in Fiji but some really enjoy it...

Yeah it is western Viti Levu they always close early even before 2020 because bus services ends early which is the cheapest there. As for other passenger services like taxis minibuses and dinghy so expensive. They always say if you miss the last bus wili duru ni cina ivale hahahahahahaha meaning you walk home counting all the street lights.
