Retired trucker...been to both NJ ports...was a company driver,,,unions were the worst thing for me....good job, thanks for sharing. I was on a General Mills accnt and made regular trips to Vineland ( Progresso Soups ) to haul back to warehouses in the caves around Kansas City....miss it...
You must have really enjoyed that feeling when you dropped the ramps in the barnyard and unloaded the new machines after all this waiting and anticipation. They are really nice looking machines!
Good planning when buying the trailer so that it could haul equipment too. Always plan ahead -- you never know when you might an extra. There is nothing like having the right equipment to do the job -- "Oh, the tractors have cleared customs? I'll just buzz over and pick them up."
Good Video. Like seeing a person Happy with a Big Purchase. Were you bought these Tractors is up to you. A Man can spend his Money" His Way. People do understand what it takes to run a Business.
I used to drive a 7530 brilliant tractor couldn't fault never had any major problems with it, nice comfortable machine and good size for the power it has
WOW the shot of them on the trailer with the western star is INCREDIBLE. Its amazing how far hay has taken you, from starting out with cheap old equipment form the westcoast to having all this nice equipment now. Hopefully people dont stop eating mushrooms lol
In the words of one of the strange farmers in the neighborhood- "Good load guys, good load". That should give the old Western Star a nice workout. That trailer looks to be just right for them two tractors. Can't wait to see them in the field.
Hello Wes, I love your channel. The tapes are awesome. I'm an ole' farm boy and find myself looking for your vids every day. The tractors look great and I wish you much success in your operation. I think it would neat to have all you JD's lined up together for some drone footage. Keep up the good work.
Taping the exhaust might be a old wife's tail now, but I use to haul new machinery years ago and the factory checked that we did it before we left. I always thought it was just to keep water and dirt from getting in the engine. not so much spinning the turbo.
Happens on some. I was on a farm with a 2008 model JD, dont know the size, but it was pushing either 55 or 65hp. He hauling it from San Antonio 100 miles back to the farm. Ran it till it got dark putting hay away. Walked into the house face covered in oil splatter. Looked on the tractor next morning to find it covered in oil mist. Called the dealer to ask about it. First question was "Cover the exhaust?" Sure didnt, and the oil built up. Blew it right out the exhaust when fired up. Didnt realise having balanced 2 bales on it and trying to avoid the fences. Ever since then, its always hauled with the exhaust covered in a can. Even do it to my little tractor to prevent oil or damage. Either to simply do it then be aurprised with random oil or turbo gone bad.
Thanks Teresa for making this great video for us! When it's time to cut hay or do other tractor work you've got to teach Teresa to drive a tractor. Ryan on How Farms Work is slowly teaching his girlfriend Jamie to drive tractors. I bet somewhere there's a country song about women who drive tractors being sexy! :)
I pulled a farm tractor and fried the turbo from lack of oil. TAPE IT! Tape is far cheaper than the turbo. But hey its your pocket. Yes you left yours idling so you were safe
My friends live down the street from there in Elizabeth I live in philly and I don't even know how they do it def one of the noisest places to live tractors are nice hopefully you have good luck with them
A friend and I really appreciate and enjoy your chanel on you - tube. Looking forward to seeing you use these tractors. I understand Tim s attachment to the 4960, but he will like the new tractors. Wes please keep up the good work. I know you are busy. By the way. I use one of your famous words all the time now . Giving you the credit. "Libtard" best one yet. Looking forward to more videos. I'm a tech dip-shit so you tube is what I what on. Happy Haying!
turbo won't spin anyway because air can't blow through it ,, the turbo is between the engine and the muffler ,,I don't think air is gonna blow through the engine
Why does someone always have something negative and stupid to say, Wes runs a farm, you don't last in that line of work being stupid or lazy. Who the hell cares where he buys his tractors from as long as he's happy with them.
Man those are beautiful machines. Amazing as I thought when I was working a nursery 4010 was big. By the way the aircraft if not a 747 would be an Airbus 380 double decker...
When I was out west working on a harvesr crew, we were hauling around brand new 8320R's with 1300 bushel grain carts on a 53' spread axle dropdeck. One year the boss told me to go south and load 2 '14 8310R's onto a single dropdeck. That was a heavy load. got pulled by a 377 with a c12 cat with a 13 speed and no jake brakes... by no means legal at all, lol.
jake brake noun an engine brake for truck diesel engines that cuts off fuel flow and interrupts the transfer of mechanical energy to the drive mechanism. Sorry if I sound like a smart ass, but the dictionary definition explains it better than I could.
+Chevy V12 its like when you take your foot off the gas in a car and its starts to slow down but much more extreme. It also helps the breaks not ware out from constant presser
+Chevy V12 , don't know if you know how engines work, but jake brake works by opening the exhaust valve after the compression cycle. So the engine compresses the air (no fuel as you are idling), it then gets released so the energy is lost. Then normal for the next stage. Its just so the energy of compressing the air is used to slow the engine down. Its quite a cool technology. Also noisy as hell on earlier versions of the "jake brake" as it released the gas straight out into the air, not through the exhaust.
Nice tractors wes! And dutch quality front lift arms on the 7530 :) Are you going to buy a front mower for that tractor and then put the gehl on the back like you said in one of your previous videos?
I didn't think using the three point arms as a tie down spot was very safe ?? Let alone "legal" haha Good job hunting the deals down in the UK, I work for a John Deere dealer in sales and often wondered about buying a few European units and bringing them over for sale. Could likely flip them pretty quick.
That turbo charger thing is definitely an old wives tail. At the dealership we are constantly bringing in new tractors and not a single one ever had the exhaust capped. We haven't had any turbo problems from that yet.
wes i know this is a personal question. It seems that you and your farming does well and produces a good living . Could you do a video on how profitable your hay is etc etc etc? Reason I ask is i am in the sticks of maryland and farmers around here are dirt poor compared to your farming business. A few farmers i am close with sell hay, soy beans, cows, and corn.. I am just trying to understand the pay difference in jersey compared the md. Thanks Wes
Charles ortego if the valves are at overlap on one cylinder the air is forced through the engine and out the air filter. so the turbo is spinning with no oil supplied = burnt up turbo
it's more of a problem with excavators because the exhaust is pointing straight forward. but I have seen it happen to three road tractors as well. I'm not old or a wife lol
the thing with the turbos are a myth I work for a custom harvest crew and we haul our equiptment everywhere and we never tape our exhaust sure they are 9r tractors but even with how big the turbos are the wind still doesn't spin them i was curious as to why you didn't put windshield covers on the cabs though that would be a pricey fix haha
only engine I could really see it on is a 2 stroke Detroit. if the piston is down below the air inlets ( no valve s on 2 stroke detroit ) and the exhaust valve is open then you could get some air flow going
if I remember correctly...you would be allowed to be over by a little due to your trailer being a spread axle trailer. However, it is still wise to secure to load correctly because they would use that as the excuse to do everything short of giving you a body cavity search.
Never in my life have I heard that turbo wifes tale about transporting stuff. Never have I experienced any issue either. Utter bull. Just carry on. Over hear those two would probably have been moved with 4 straps. For some reason dealers are funny about strapping tractors here. I was told it's to do with chains damaging paint. I would've done it just how you have.
If you think those planes were bad my grandson father lives right under the flight path for Chicago's midway airport. Planes are about 100-150ft above the house, when the fly over you have to stop talking cuz EVERYTHING gets drowned out. Lucky they installed special noise windows so it's way nicer now. And he has lived there like that for the last 30 years.
Wes you did great when u were chaining them up couldn't help but notice how clean they were to. I think the turbo is an old wives tale to just put them on the trailer take them home and friggen use them believe me if it was a problem Deere would let u know
And Deere and all the rest would cover the pipe if it was a problem, they wouldn't want to be replacing turbos under warranty on newly delivered tractors.
Blazer02LS Spinning the turbos dry is a very real problem w/equipment....It wouldn't be a warranty repair. User negligence isn't covered. Better to tape the exhaust, before transit...just make sure your open tape up before starting the engine.
Yeah, but wind does not cause such problems on those engines. If there are such problems, you would either find something like a check valve or some of these flapper things in or on the exhaust. Otherwise I would indeed think it needs to be covered if possibly parked outside in a storm as well and John Deere would most like advise to do so either in a manual most likely most users do not read at all or on one of those fancy stickers they seem to put everywhere. Once had a rental car with a sticker on the windshield not to obstruckt the windshield with a navigational device or the like, but I didnt have a device large enough to cover the stupid sticker). Also I know for Aircraft engines it sometimes is a problem (this plus possibly getting debris blown into the engines) which is why they put covers on them when parked for some time, e.g. over night. But then the manufacturer gives clear instructions on what to do.
During transport, if the engine is off, the air intake and exhaust are exposed to the wind, then the turbo impeller will spin, w/o oil lubrication...of course the engine is safe...it's the turbo blade bearings that crap out. Wes wasn't sure, so he left both tractor engines running: good enough.
Brian, The problem is that I see the dealers getting new deliveries and then delivering new tractors to farms and none of the stacks are ever covered. Also I cannot think of ANY way that there will be airflow through that stack that would allow the turbine to spin. It hits the stack, goes down through the muffler, DPF and finally to the torbo. Out of the turbo into the head. Where depending on valve position it stops as it hits the exhaust valves. Stops after it fills the cylinder and hits an intake or even if the valves are partly open it now hits the intake and has to exit that maze back out through the other side of the turbo. Just not enough air can flow to cause it. Just for fun I called the local Deere dealer. His response "BS, if the turbo "fails" after being towed, it was junk to begin with. A new turbo's seals will keep it from spinning"
Noise? When I lived in Tacoma, my apartment was directly beneath the southbound approach pattern for McCord AFB. C5, or C17 cargo planes were 30 seconds of roar. Every 5 minutes or so. All evening.
no way the wind is going to get into the exhaust and spin the turbo. Where does the air go from there? Let's see in the exhaust pipe, spin the turbo, through the exhaust valves, pistons, intake valves, turbo, air filter. Really Wes with your knowledge.
Hmmm I have an idea. Instead of giving what ifs, let's try something. Take a leaf blower and blow it across the exhaust and let's see a video of the turbo spinning. I don't think it has enough volume to overcome the system. For air to go in and make the turbo spin would take a lot of volume. Maybe with a straight pipe, but im doubtful. With muffler, it would have to be a direct blast into the exhaust just like when the engine runs. Or a jet engine to blow across the exhaust pipe to get enough flow. Either its going to spin like it should or its going to spin backwards and try to blow it back through an exhaust valve, back through the intake valve and back into the intake and finally air cleaner. Even if it caused a venturi effect, I think it wouldn't do much of anything. Maybe move a little? I don't have a turbo to try it. I say its to keep rain and junk out of the exhaust when in transit. Just my thought.
no one knows what happens at the docks.. truely amazing. if you can think it it can go on a ship.. I drove for a co. delivered all kinds of trks. .mainly good old school buses for sauide Arabia. junky ones to Africa. old truck tractors to Russia..all ways same kinds so as to have parts when they break.. didn't you need special ID. to get in the port? thought that was the rule few years ago.. maybe only to deliver.. good luck with new machines...
Those are fine looking tractors Tim it is so awesome you took your Father with you . A big thumbs up , smiling .
Retired trucker...been to both NJ ports...was a company driver,,,unions were the worst thing for me....good job, thanks for sharing.

lovely Tractors congratulations. yea I think that plane was a jumbo jet.
Wes looks extremely pleased with himself a little excitement
I hope grandma approved the tractors after seeing them. I loved that part when you said it.

how much money did you save by importing rather than buy here in the States
Yes sir you are right, Its an Airbus A340 of Lufthansa Germany. Keep up the good work, enjoying the videos.
like the vids with commentary. Great looking Green machines.
you have a great woman that goes around and helps you make all these videos

Those tractors are BEASTS

Too bad Hayley doesn't want to be in video's anymore. I was looking forward to her operating some of the machinery.
Can't wait to see more, that was cool.
Looking good Wes loving the sight of them big green girls 👍👍
holy sheet that first chain binder with the tip of the hook through the chain :S
Taping the pipe shut is a good idea. It's only an old wives' tale until you're the one replacing a wrecked turbo.
jw '46
Just put them on backwards then if that worried
30 years ago we had a super stock pulling tractor with a (at the time) $1000.00 turbo and a 4" ID short straight stack, yeah we taped up the stack!!
I pulled a farm tractor and fried the turbo from lack of oil. TAPE IT! Tape is far cheaper than the turbo. But hey its your pocket. Yes you left yours idling so you were safe
Nice looking tractors!
hey Wes ,, nice tractors ,, by the way the Plane you mentioned flying over at 8:00 in the video looks like an AirBus A-340 ,,
the turbo thing is mostly with "cat". I have never heard of trouble with anything else. by the way love the tractors and videos.
I like these kind of vids
good looking tractors!

Only have to worry about the tape if you have a straight pipe, mufflers won't let the turbo spin
turbo won't spin anyway because air can't blow through it ,, the turbo is between the engine and the muffler ,,I don't think air is gonna blow through the engine
Congrats you guys rally do deserve them you all work hard for your new toys

what even is a jake brake?
jake brake
noun
an engine brake for truck diesel engines that cuts off fuel flow and interrupts the transfer of mechanical energy to the drive mechanism.

did you leave the tractor's running so you wouldn't have to deal with dead batteries?
You go Wes! Glad you made it through the red tape. Enjoy the vids.
Nice tractors wes! And dutch quality front lift arms on the 7530 :) Are you going to buy a front mower for that tractor and then put the gehl on the back like you said in one of your previous videos?
That 4 engine airplane was an Airbus A340. Probably coming back from over seas
Child with new toys. love it..
they look good on behind ur western star two nice tractors mr pandy
It's nice to have the means to do your own hauling.
Wes likes to be as independent as possible and that's great. Having to depend on others can be disappointing at times.
Congrats on finally getting your tractors home, Wes! They're some fine looking iron!
I didn't think using the three point arms as a tie down spot was very safe ?? Let alone "legal" haha
Good job hunting the deals down in the UK, I work for a John Deere dealer in sales and often wondered about buying a few European units and bringing them over for sale. Could likely flip them pretty quick.

Hey Wes are you going to use the front 3pt on the new tractors, do they also have front pto?
wes i know this is a personal question. Airbus A-340 with four engines. stylish plane :) boing 757. thats a sexy plane hehe
Charles ortego if the valves are at overlap on one cylinder the air is forced through the engine and out the air filter. so the turbo is spinning with no oil supplied = burnt up turbo
Love your vids man👍🏼
The 8530 is my favorite tractor.
Beautiful tractors. I have a baby 5115m. Wish i got a 6r instead.
it's more of a problem with excavators because the exhaust is pointing straight forward. but I have seen it happen to three road tractors as well. I'm not old or a wife lol

Antenna whip is missing on the 7530. I would have thought those would have been removed for shipping.
Are those CB antenna's or GPS?

Nice tractors
Those tyres sems to be pretty used,at least at 45% left on both of the tractors.
Are they gonna be good enough for the incoming season?
i agree Wes those tractors do look sexy

They look great! Keep the the 4960 if you can.
What is fuel consumption like on a JD 8530? (heavy/ medium work etc)
