  • In this 2nd tutorial for restoring an Ideal Toni Dolls hair I focus on washing and setting her hair in curlers. The curlers are made by ConAir and I purchased them through Amazon.

Such a good tutorial with so many tips. Doll hair is the hardest part of restoration for me, so thank you!

Thank you for this very comprehensive video on washing & setting a Toni dolls hair. I have several Toni’s & one whose hair is a disaster. I’m hopeful this will work since she does have a beautiful face. The others hair are not too bad but may need to be washed and reset.

You are very welcome, I am so happy it was helpful. Just be patient with her it may take some time to detangle her hair but it will be worth it!🥰

I am still gathering courage to do it. I know young girls gave the dolls permanent but I am not young. I prefer the straighter look without a lot of curls, more like waves. But that is a lot of equipment.

Hi Sheila! I have dolls with their hair just as you said you like and I like them too. they are some of my favorites. I don’t want all of my dolls that I keep to have the curly 50s hair style. So don’t feel like you have to try. they are beautiful just the way they are! som times I will just wash their hair comb it while still wet to put the hair the way I want it to be when it is dry. Then take three or four rollers without end papers and roll up just the bottom of the back of her hair about halfway up. Then let the whole hair dry a day or so and you have the look we both like. 🥰😉

Great Information, thank you so much for sharing! If I don't have fabric softener, would a deep Moisturizing human hair conditioner work or is fabric softener far superior?

if your wig were to be human hair or caracul which is lamb used in the early 50s+ human hair conditioners would be fine. there is another kind of wig made of animal hair and that is mohair. human conditioner would be the right one but I strongly advise you never wash a mohair wig. we have a Shirley Temple tutorial to explain why. The other wigs are made of synthetic fibers like nylon, dynel and Saran. you get the best results with fabric softener because you are working with synthetic or a fiber to represent hair. If you used hair conditioner on synthetic wigs it would be the same as using human hair conditioner on you clothes. I hope this helps. It can get abit confusing with the different wigs that have been used over so many decades.🥰

How do you curl a dolls hair if it’s short 1967 tipee toes

You can use the rod of the sponge roller as the curler and us claw clips to secure them. Another thing you can do to help your dolls hair which is Saran is to use a curling iron to repair it. I do not use a curling iron to curl the hair I only use it to repair the Saran fiber and only when the hair is very wet. I use a digital temperature control small curling iron on 160 degrees Fahrenheit no higher. I have a video I did on a Tiny Tears doll with Saran hair and show the process step by step. I cannot suggest you try it without watching the video as I cannot explain the process adequately here and I do not want your doll to be damaged. I hope this helps.🥰
