To my mind, everything is a reinterpretation in one way or another. If Rasasi made a quality product that out performs the "original", they deserve kudos.

Unfortunately, the strengths of most TF fragrances have significantly declined in sillage and projection unless you use the Private blends....it is not the same company.

La Yuqawam is amazing if you love leather, only the TF fanboys will disagree.
I have compared the 2, TL is very nice but for the price point you would have to be nuts to overlook Rasasi. La Yuqawam is actually easier to wear and performs very well.

It's a terrible trend that plagues so many products, not just scents. As soon as something gains a foothold, achieves popularity, the quality starts to wane, with the obvious end-game of profit, profit, and more profit. It stinks, if you'll pardon the pun.

have to take into account that TF frags are shadow of what they used to be while raising the prices to ridiculous levels. Customers are not stupid. The same applies to Creed frags..there's word that many people that used to work at Creed stores years ago have said that Club de Nuit is making more potent frags that resemble the OG when it first came out. I personally don't feel bad for not giving my money to a company that doesn't respect me.

I worked in High end Swiss watches for many years. I think that if people have the money to spend on the original, that is what they will choose. I never had an issue with someone wearing an homage to say, a Rolex Submariner, for instance. As long as it wasn't a fake. If they like the looks of that watch but can't shell out the thousands of dollars for it, and they get a great quality Swiss Army or whatever, then great. I think it's the same for fragrances. Just be honest about what you are wearing. And I don't think these top tier companies are too worried about companies that make clones or homage versions. They are focused on their base customers that are loyal. And maybe, down the road, that guy that has Tom Ford dreams but can't swing it right now, will eventually be able to reach for Tuscan Leather. Cheers!

First! I own and love La Yaqauam. I have not tried TF Tuscan Leather. But for the price point, I don't see purchasing TF. Ditto on the Meharees! Love it. (Thanks to you!) Great comparison and great review. this may be polarizing but, I, as a consumer, have absolutely no issues with "inspired" fragrances. The company's that will sell $300+ list price releases are not going to get my money anyway, so there is no impact to their profitability. Is exclusivity that they are purporting to sell? If that is their commodity of choice, then let them build cars. If you can put out a particular scent that is equal to or better than the original for a cheaper list price, then in my opinion, the OEM needs to step up their game. I think some clones houses are just keeping them honest.Thank you sir!

excellent comparison.i definitely agree on the performance part.la yuq lasts much longer and tuscan leather newer formula fades away quite a bit after one hour..its much weaker now.and at the pricepoint rasasi is a dumb reach.how ever the leather note in TL i find is more well done...and addictive,i love the arab tradition by nabeel and leather oudh of al haramain...both i feel are amazing for the prices.did you try them?

Great to hear your views Pep. I own some excellent clones of fragrances that I also own a bottle of. If I just fancy a casual spray of something I like for no particular occasion I spray a clone. If I'm going to an occasion such as a night out, wedding etc. I go with the OG. I just find it adds to the occasion just knowing I've used the original juice. This method makes my lovely bottles last much longer!

Nice review. I find the the La Yuqawam is less smooth compared to Tuscan Leather. Or at least that seems to be the case with my bottle of La Yuqawam. It is much stronger than the Tuscan Leather I have and has a bit of a harsh 'ashtray'type smell and the saffron seems stronger. I also don't get the 'cocaine'smell that Tuscan Leather has, which I really like. I haven't actually tried them side by side. I think I'll give it a try. I haven't worn the La Yuqawam in over a year, so I am going off memory here.

I think a great deal has to do with accessibility. If your income can justify paying for the "real thing", then why not? But if you can't, then clones can offer some exposure to the fragrance so that you can slowly fall in love with it and eventually make an upgrade. In addition, perhaps your area of residence doesn't have a TF boutique, so you're stuck with blind buying - then it becomes a matter of cost/mL and many times people will choose a full bottle over a sample set (which I wouldn't personally recommend). As for Tuscan Leather, it's an excellent scent - but not my fav, so I wouldn't buy a bottle of either the clone or the OG. So yeah, no problems there! lol Appreciate the video Pep.

Hey Pep, I love Meharees and purchased it thanks to you, I feel it’s slightly softer than Musc Ravaguer. Wish I could try this too, but sadly I’m on a self imposed buying ban. My collection tripled over the last year and I’m not purchasing until I wear through at least 10 bottles. Good thing I’m a heavy sprayer 😘

The Scentinel haha. I did the same thing, except I blind bought 5 bottles, no discipline here. I was supposed to be on a ban until spring/summer. Now I’m going to earnestly try to wear through some of my fragrances instead of putting a time restriction on myself. Since I started this last week, I’ve been changing fragrances at least twice a day. Plus this time I announced my plans to my family after I inboxed part of my blind buys. So I know my older daughter will keep me honest. My family thinks my fragrance obsession is a bit (maybe more than a bit) bonkers.

It is (obviously) very personal. On my skin, and to my nose, Godolphin is far superior to both TL and LY. It turns out to be a more refined scent on the drydown than both. Actually, Godolphin becomes magical on my skin. It doesn't get any better than that.
The funny thing is, where I live I can get PdM Godolphin at the same price as I can get LY. That's because we have killer sales offers on PdMs in the holidays, while LY is never on sale. I'd buy PdM anyway, even at full price.
Everyone should try them all, and see how they develop on their on skin.

Theres a place for clone houses in the market. Not everyone can afford the original. Sometimes originals are overpriced to begin with.
As long as a clone company credits the original fragrance, i believe it is okay.
I believe clone houses add to the competition and should push everyone to put out the best fragrances they can.

I tried these fragrances side by side a couple of times. They're close - very close - but not close enough, imo. I think a fragrance should be worn to be fully assessed. These side by side comparisons (in general) smelled so close to the skin are not telling the whole story. For example, as I was walking around in the kitchen moving my arms I was getting these gorgeous whiffs of tobacco sweetness (or whatever it is) that in La Yuqawam were lacking. I doubt someone who's been wearing TL daily would not tell the difference between the two. I think TL is better composed. Mind you, these were very brief tests (if they can even be called tests), and I'm new to fragrances. Nevertheless, this is my experience with these fragrances. Great video!

    • @TheScentinel
      @TheScentinel  6 років тому +2

Max Testi thank you. Thing is, when i wore each normally i was just wearing without analysis in mind. Obviously to me i could have been wearing either, but i noticed the Rasasi more because it was lasting longer. As i said, for a moment you do get more of the brighter raspberry from TL and that smokiness develops at different stages for both, or at least on me.

Yeah you just gotta justify the 300 bucks on TF. Maybe if you repeat it 1000 times you will end up believing it. I own both, you can tell slight differences side by side if you smell them both right directly to the nose, but you can hardly tell them apart in the air which is at the end of the day what matters unless you got superpowers or sth lol. LY is the best clone ive ever come across and spending the huge amount on TF is a complete waste

I actually prefer the La Yuqawam, I ordered a bottle today. It's more versatile, a bit easier to wear. It's easy to fault clones, but when the quality is on the same level, at a fourth of the price, then in reality...is the clone the rip-off, or the original?

Yeah ethically this is wrong.

Personally I'm a bit of a Rasasi fan boy. I've blind bought a bunch of their stuff that I've not smelled the "original" either. I can afford to blind buy and risk disliking a $15 Egra, I can't afford to buy a $300 GIT and dislike it for example. So far there is only one Rasasi I haven't been thrilled with. Clone house or not, I will continue to give them a go.

Hey Pep , nice review. I have always loved Tuscan Leather and it is the reason I got into fragrances. I have both , as well as Aoud Leather, Golden Boy and have also tried Clive Cristian C and Godolphin. I have to honestly say as fas as T.L VS L.Y, Tuscan Leather wins for me. I have worn both many many times, and I find Tuscan Leather to be a better blend. I would say L.Y is 90% close but just lacks something speial that T.L has. L.Y has a sweeter , slightly more synthetic raspberry note and as a whole is not as robust and smokey as T.L . T.L also lasts longer ,and for whatever reason I get oflactory fatigue with L.Y or , it simply just does not perform as well. For anyone looking to save a few bucks , it is absulutely a great choice to go with L.Y however all things considered if price is a non issue - TL is the way to go. Another option would always be the terrific YSL Noble Leather which is even better than L.Y and slightly more wearable for some people than T.L.

Really love and like La Yuqawam better then Tuscan Leather, it is less harsh and a bit sweeter, easier to wear, safer around others and not even talking about price. I not consider it as a clone, because Montale Leather, Parfums de Marly Godolphin and Dueto wound be clones too, yet they are not. TL is a masterpiece nonetheless, it brought us this leathery dna, love it, it is just a bit to harsh and with a little versatility.
Should really look into more from Rasasi, like Shuhrah, Al Wisam Day, Hawas, Entebaa and incredible Dhanal Oudh Nashwah.

I missed the music ravageur part. What replaced it for you? As far as the copies, I don’t know... my gut has always said if I don’t like it for smaller brands, then it isn’t right period. That’s just general ethics logic. But real life is less black and white. As a musician I’m familiar w people stealing melodies or even whole songs and those people get sued and rightly so. But can perfume be compared to that? It’s not the same thing. It’s hard for me to quantify in my mind. My bottom line is I really don’t know. I don’t personally like buying clones, I’d rather have a small amount of the original article. But I buy fashion that is based on high fashion stuff all the time without a second thought. I have zero pause there. Isn’t perfume a similar situation? I would say perfume is closer to clothing than say music or art. I’m rambling random thoughts but that’s the best I’ve got most of the time...
