  • Two Amish hay auctions around us in the same week taking deliveries the same day mean a lot of hauling. What could go wrong? Well everything. From tractors not wanting to start, trucks trying to gel up and wheel bearings falling off of trailers about catching on fire.

Good thing about big square bales is you can usually set the length aroubd 5 to 10 feet, and when storing them it's so much easier and get more packedinto a barn

Good morning ☕️☕️. We make all rounds, but those squares are sure handy for hauling. Not many guys square bale here cause most hay sits outside and don’t have sheds.

I add methyl hydrate to all my diesel fuel tanks year round, but especially in the winter. That clears out any water that may be lurking in the tanks. I am retired now but at one time had to start a machine every day to feed cattle. I live in a 'warm' part of Canada, but we do get the occasional week or so at -30ish C. I have block or circulating heaters and change the fuel filters in the fall. It doesn't work perfectly, but I have far fewer problems than if I don't do all that.

Many years of small squares by hand before getting the New Holland bale wagons in 1990 # horse hay to Lexington Ky 40 thousand + bales a year. 2001 DODGE here 370,000 CUMMINS. You should shut your truck off when boosting another vehicle. You run the risk of blowing out your truck's computer. Very expensive to burn in another computer. // I use to haul Howe's diesel treatment around north America to different distributors. Lots of stops and the pay was great. Fifty-three foot trailer loaded front to rear with Howe's.

If you like 3x3 bales, you would love to 2x4 bales made by Krone
A2x4x7.5 weighs between 850-1050 lbs, so they are easy for small skid loaders to move
I made 3600 bales in the last 2 years and I think the baler has missed 8 knots

A light bulb works very well -- "the bigger the better" for what you had going on and a low-wattage one for overnight. Any type of open-topped shield/box/bucket to go around the filters to keep the heat in works well -- a light socket mounted to an electrical box that is then screwed to a piece of plywood or 2x6 or such dropped inside of a 5-gal bucket that is then set/hung around the filters or one of those "chicken coop" lights with the aluminum reflector and spring clamp or even just a "trouble light" as long as it doesn't touch/melt the bucket.
If, *when*, you fab-up something to protect those filters from getting getting hit with debris or obliterated when going off road I'd make/leave the sides of it solid.
