Those cars were built in 1940. They certainly lasted a long time (over 50 years). I remember riding on them when I visited London in 1992. They were certainly unique!
I used to walk the tunnel back then as i was Waterloo S&T Works Supervisor and we had to check the emergency pinch wires. We would come out at Bank at about middle to late evening and walk back to Waterloo looking like dirty miners while all the yuppies drank champagne wondering who the hell we where!
1993 it was. We watched them crane all these old trains out and new ones in. If you visit Waterloo, go out to Leake st and on the right look over the wall and you can see the tracks of the W&C sidings which is where trains are taken in and out.
Yes, Stratford is Central Line. I'd imagine this was either for tests or a central line train was painted into NSE for a transfer to the drain (as both lines use 92 stock)
@MIKEMASTER1A That was the guard, he's supposed to stand there to make sure it's all clear to open the doors, and to watch as the train enters and leave the station. He also controls the doors.
@@loco4loco art deco was around from the 20s to 30s, these trains would've been designed in the mid 1930s so they would have gone with what's popular at the time
I worked in Waterloo during the 80's. The lift for craning the trains to & from the line was between the building I was working inn at the time and Waterloo Station. The location for removing the trains was moved to Leake Street when the former Eurostar terminal was built
I’m amazed reading some of the comments on here. It confirms what I have believed for a long while, and that is that You Tube is very much a young persons forum. I’m not young, but I shall continue to watch it, enjoy it and comment on the videos.
Now the 1992 Stock does both the Central and Waterloo & City Lines. This line has changed so much as I used it recently as it reached Bank/Monument from Waterloo in less than 15 mins.
One would get away with refurbishing them AGAIN, putting larger square windows on them and an LU paintjob and sticking them on victoria line. people would think they were new. TIMELESS DESIGN, wicked trains, although they looked a bit spooky.
This is very cool - that any old metro-carriage still go. In Russia all old were destroyed. Though they were still solid... But any now only as museam exhibit. BTW, you should use any music here))))
WOW! That’s nice train of the classic railway. I haven't seen that before of those waterloo & city line. Now why replace old train for last old train being farewell. But there being replace old train?
Is very sad they've gone to local transport musuem for user open the days to see that memory of the railway. Quite nice old Waterloo & City Railway line. Probably in the future will upgraded redelevopment the railway made a big train or not??? Whatever, interesting Waterloo & City Railway anyway. So sad gone farewell Waterloo & City Railway.
@leirikhol I see, is that train guard link control of doors for user, interesting. But be careful otherwise, when they trains moving guard man will affect hit his head. Hope he keep eye open, when there train will departure! Right, how sad that farewell Waterloo & City trains isn't? Might be future plans upgraded or not?
Ryan Simmons it's to do with the motors. Trains nowadays have ac variable frequency motors hence the noises on trains like the 1996 stock and the class 323. Those older trains used dc motors so that's why they do not have the modern noises.

That little booth selling chocolates and papers at 4:21 is still there and still open.

That must have been in about 1986 or 1987 going by the yuppie description!

i love how it’s just called an old train on the signs

I was seven months old when this was filmed.
I was 3 weeks old when this was filmed...
I was born the next day!!!
@Oliver Eales No need to be rude, just ignore a comment if you don't like it.
@Oliver Eales twat
Must of been like going back in time getting on that train, Very art deco design..
For a 40’s train ????

In the days when electric trains growled!
On some parts of this video, you can see the rear end of one of the new trains then at the waterloo depot.
Great video! Thanks!

Do you mean there used to be a lot of delays on the line?
the replacement stock were owned by BR, but are the same as central line stock
RIP Fred Ivey

TIMELESS DESIGN, wicked trains, although they looked a bit spooky.
Is it just me, or did they run an NSE-colored Tubestock on the Central Line near the end?
its so weird seeing people without phones

You now see the L.U 1992 Stock on both the Central and Waterloo & City Lines which entered service in April 1993.

Great video. ☺️
Was the line closed between 29th May and 11th July 1993? (See 43 secs).
No, it’s still open but it’s part of the London Underground network now

Waterloo & City Line 1940 Tube Stock
@Nuaaht did the line actually make any money? do large volumes of people still use this connection?
It must make money, otherwise they'd close it down.
I was lucky enough to ride in the cab with the guard
Day I was born.
I was only a month and a few days old when this was filmed.
I was probably on the northern line seeing my aunt
They look about as bumpy as a pacer haha. Never ridden a Class 487. Did they keep any running on heritage lines?

Uhhhhhh.... grammar?
And now it’s been 30 years of the 487s retirement
loving the memorys!!
Memories*
I would have been 2 on that date XD
Who is Fred Ivey?
for now i gonna call the central line trains class 482s because it looks cool
I was 18 then
Why the man stand on the train door was open, how dangerous that rain was moving. Should be get off the train, what he stands up there for?!
That's the person in charge of the train, the conductor, in charge of the doors.
That's what drivers do on tube trains
Older than me
What was that guy yelling about wearing that town crier suit at bank?
One of those nutters who tries to talk to people on public transport in London.
@@steved8193 One of those normal and friendly people, as far as non-Londoners are concerned.
Lol this was 5 months before I was born. Lol
Those Class 487s are fat.Even fatter than those 1992 Stocks aka Class 482
i was ebous 9 ish
7:36
I wasn't even born lol
0:19 that class 487 is going way too fast i am glad the class 482 replaced the class 487 AND I DON'T WANT THE CLASS 482 TO GO
8
I was three years old when this was filmed. Was this the last year of the line being a National Rail one rather than an LU one?
1994,
No, the W&C line became a LU line in 1994
I find it funny how old electric trains barely make a noise but many modern ones do (Class 323 or 350 for instance).

The motor on a 350 is desiro which is why it makes cool noises
