    You are not only a professional but Super Talented in Teaching, too!
    Many Teachers overlook little things that are too basics(which they easily forget to explain)
    but you exactly know where beginners are coming from.
    Making Highly Complicated Works too easy, throwing all required tips & skills in 1 Hour of Time.
    Thank you so much!!!
    I trust in helping others and sharing love.
    Your teaching is planting another love.

    I went to the Art Institute of Phoenix back in 2003, for Media Arts and Animation... and they told me that traditional art was dying and that it would be more practical to get into digital animation. I was sad and ended up changing my major and then not even being able to finish, but going to that school had killed my desire to draw.. ten years later i finally started drawing digitally. I love it and I improve every week and since finding your videos I have improved even more. You have made it easier for me to learn more in digital art. Even going back to basics like this allows me to take another leap forward. Thank you! :]
    You are the 'Bob Ross' of the digital art world. XD

      Ess Griffith That's so funny. I was there from 2004 - 2007 in the Video Game Art & Design program. Knowing what I know now I would've made a different decision. I wish they focused more on building a solid art foundation instead of just teaching different types of software. Thank goodness for the internet, though.

      STEER CLEAR OF THE ART INSTITUTES!!!!!!! They're an absolute total joke!! They're a cookie-cutter school (if you can even call it a school) and they're not exactly accredited. The Art Institutes are a VERY elaborate corporate scheme and they'll accept anyone who shows up with a pencil and a wallet. They're a FOR-PROFIT organization and that's exactly what they're doing: profiting off of you. Just google "lawsuits against the art institutes" or "art institute scam." Many of the Art Institutes have been closed down. If you value yourself, your time, your art, and your money...then DO NOT even think once about the Art Institutes. There are so many other great LEGITIMATE art schools out there. DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU GO TO ANY SCHOOL.

      traditional art never dies! It's like you'll say "people will stop to learn how to wirte and read because of keyboard and audio-files". Digital Art will give you some benefits of work process. a digital work will never reache the same value of a traditional painted picture. it'll never be sold for millions or get stored like a mona lisa in the luvre.... - think about this, every now and again. digital is just an other medium nothing else...

    I have been working in photoshop for almost 10 years, I got the program from my father at NASA when the government sent it their companies. As a 12 year old until now (22). I am always learning. I just want you to know this is THE BEST photoshop/ illustration tutorial I've ever watched. You'v broken it down so simple I only wish I had this 10 years ago! You also filled in ALL of the little gaps about digital illustration I had questions about!

      He has a cintiq, its much easier than on regular tablet, just like drawing on paper, even easier.
      On cintiq you have direct contact with what you draw, not like on regular tablet where you draw on one surface and then watch on the screen.

    • @cmrobbins88
      @cmrobbins88 8 років тому

      I gotta get me one of those. I feel my digital drawings will improve by 1000%. Direct contact for drawings just feels so much better than looking at a screen and controlling a cursor to draw.

    Hi Aaron, greetings from London!
    Many design teachers in the UK say that drawing skills are a lost art, and many designers rely too much on CAD/3D and adobe. I love combining both!
    THIS VIDEO IS BRILLIANT!

      Whitepcock Product & Graphic Design I think there will always be a place for traditional art. Some people just don't like the digital stuff and that's ok. I myself didn't watch any cgi animation for years because I love traditional 2D-animation. But eventually I gave it a chance and now I love both styles (still favoring traditional 2D though) and I love to do digital stuff :) I'm not good at it, but I love it :D

    Mr Blaise, I'm so glad that I found your video. I've just gotten into digital art and Photoshop. I searched for tips and tutorials on UA-cam for months and always found the same thing. 10 steps and "set-ups" to do the most simple thing. It made drawing so "technical" that I just didn't enjoy it. Your video changed all of that. Thank you for a "REAL" introduction into digital art and Photoshop as well. This video is absolutely awesome and very easy to follow and above everything else, it's FUN! Many thanks to you. You are a wonderful teacher.

    I just wanted to stop for a second and leave a comment . I usually don't leave comments very often but i just wanted to tell you how much i enjoyed this video . There are so many art videos out there , by really good artists however the way that you teach is awesome . So often ill be watching art videos and although the person doing the video can draw great i find that at the end i really didn't learn anything and nothing really stuck with me . But watching your video you kept my attention , didn't go off on any tangents , and made it really enjoyable to watch and learn . So i just wanted to let you know how much i enjoyed it . I'm 30 years old and have taken art classes all my life but in the last two years have started to take art a lot more seriously and this video will help me take the next step and start trying digital illustration . Although i cant afford a cintiq I have a wacom tablet and not the cheapy ones so it has pressure sensitivity so hopefully ill do alright . In the future i hope ill be able to get one like you though . Those look like so much fun . Any way thank you and best wishes . -Brandon

    So happy to have found you! You are a relaxed and natural teacher and explain things simply & slowly without missing steps. So many PS tutorials out there have people doing things so fast I cannot follow them. I am in college for Multimedia Communications and while I like my instructors, they tend to do the same thing and make things seem so much more complicated than it needs to be or actually is (the book tutorials are even worse!).
    I love your style because I can learn about the traditional art of drawing AND how to translate that to digital art using PS in a relaxed and non-stressful state (pretty important for those with PTSD/anxiety issues).
    I will definitely be checking out your website for more, thanks!

    Aaron, thanks so much for this. Even though I've been using photoshop for years, it's always great to hear and see how other artist use the same tool. Now, would you please do a similar "Introduction" video for using TV Paint? Please; I'll give you money :-)

    I couldn't afford a Cintiq 22 HD (around 1500 Euros), so I bought a 13 HD (around 750 Euros). Even at this size, like you said, working with a Cintiq is so easier than working with a tablet.

      ***** Yeah,as a poor student all i could afford was a low end intuos pen xD but now not bothered by that, we have what we work for. Im more concerned of my skills and if i will be able to make it.
      Any advice would be cool, im a self taught late starter (20) and i never drew as a kid been drawing seriously since the start of this year. i think im asking too much but yeah lol,i really want to be an artist and education is too expensive for me =/

      Cowboy Tanaka The best advice anyone can give you, is to see your subjects as 3D objects. Construct things with shapes (spheres, cylinders, cubes, etc) and learn about perspective. These are just a few fundamentals you'll need to learn, and I think perspective is the most important one.

      Cowboy Tanaka I'm not complaining, I'm just stating a fact. A Cintiq is a very good tool, even a small one.

    I can't like this video enough. I've been struggling for years on and off with different classes and videos to learn Photoshop and always abandoned it after a couple of tries. Your way of teaching is so lovely and I enjoy your type of drawings a lot. Just finished following this tutorial the second time and I already got better. Will repeat until I master everything taught here and move to the next one. Thank you! ♥

    a question: if, after making that secondary light, i realize that the color i chose is too wierd, how do I change it?

    • @andresmanrique4247
      @andresmanrique4247 3 роки тому

      Oh i might be late, but in case that you haven't figured it out yet. You make an adjustment layer (one of the icons besides the one to create a layer, and chose hue/saturation) right on top of your secondary light, press alt and left click right in between the adjustment layer you made and the secondary light one (this will make that that adjustment layer only affect the layer below) and now you can change the hue (color) however you like.

    careful not to coach the guy on commands and shortcuts. remember, this vide is for newbies, im sure he is intentionally keeping it easy and newbie-friendly by showing them the visually easy ways to CLICK and DRAG things to places, and such. Best learn the basics first.. OH look!! "Basic" is in the title! :O

    • @cherylvargas9228
      @cherylvargas9228 7 років тому +4

      Yes! Basics first. Shortcuts definitely shave time off of your workflow, tho. Aaron gives us command/control + or - to zoom in and out, also good to know for newbies is "change brush size", left bracket (reduce size), right bracket (increase size). OH one of my favs, rotate your entire artboard/work surface with just the letter "r" on the MAC. There are dozens more, but yeah, just a few will save you some time.

    Mr. Blaise, thank you so much for this video! I stumbled upon it by accident. I have been teaching myself how to color in Photoshop and knew even though my drawings look good, I still needed to learn more. When I started watching your video, I said, "I'd just watch for a few minutes now and finish the rest later. An hour later I was still glued to the screen! There were a number of things you mentioned early on, that I had already figured out (encouraging) and then you revealed steps I never knew! Can't wait to start using these techniques to take my colors to the next level! God bless.

    The lighting/shadow portion of this is gold. Amazing how even much simpler drawings than this can become interesting just by adding the light/shadow detail. The brain seems to just turn that information into a kind of 3d. Great stuff.

    Great explanations, thank you so much. I am trying to learn scientific/medical illustration and there aren't very many tutorials specifically about those specialist fields of illustration, so I was looking for some tutorials on digital painting. There are alot of great artists that demonstrate their techniques but most create speed paintings (ie show themselves painting but at 10x the speed so the whole painting is done in 10 min, usually to music, and they NEVER explain anything!!), so it is difficult for a beginner to see HOW they are doing what they are doing. It can be frustrating seeing someone performing the technique you would like to learn, but you don't know what it is called or how to do it, and no one ever explains. So I loved how you went right from the start and you explain everything in real time as you are doing it. Thanks for that.
