Good video. When I learned the pole exercise for downhill, they taught me to hold the pole to somewhat face the direction of the mountain, which he is doing here. Giving your body that counter rotation seems to put more inside edge pressure on your turning/downhill ski, which strengthens your control and turn.
Thank you! I have been a fan of your videos the last couple of years, and my own skiing has improved tremendously in that time thanks to the expertise you share. I even tackled several black diamond trails/hills successfully two weeks ago at a couple of areas in Northern Michigan as did our 12-year old, who has only skied for seven winters. My family is heading northward again in Mid-February for another long weekend on skis. Your various tips have really helped us get more fun from the sport. Thanks. When I'm skiin all I can do effectively is go straight. Can't stop, can't snow plow to stop, can't snow plow turn, can't skid. Hope this helps.

Thank-you. Were you using classic skis or skate skis in this video? Any differences when doing downhill between theses two skis?
I am using skate skis but there is no real difference...both skis will perform a snowplow
