You are a very talented athlete. I wish you would talk more about when it is appropriate and not appropriate to do tricks or ski fakey. I see lots of weak skiers trying to pull tricks on very crowded slopes. It's like they don't think about their landing zone at all. Trying to learn to ski backwards on a crowded slope is a recipe for disaster.
You're my favorite ski tutorial channel! Everything you show is clearly explained, demonstrated, and filmed. Huge thanks to you, AND to your camera man. You guys are doing a fantastic job, and what you're teaching is 100% applicable.
I've been skiing for two weeks now and your videos gave me the confidence to do my very first blue run a few days ago. Thanks sooo much for allowing me to experience this epic feeling in life on the slopes. Your videos are truly the best!!!
Haha yes he so deserves it. Being christmas holidays going on with lots of people Carlos killed it skiing along filming. We cut out most videos with busy slopes.
Every time I watch your videos, I think how much I would LOVE to join one of your camps and be instructed by you. One day!! :D Thank you so much for always making awesome videos for us!
@@StompItTutorials March of 2024!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going skiing almost every weekend this season. I need to prepare myself to keep up with everyone when I join your camp and not cause trouble. I'm a lady in her 30s but still lots of energy and desire of improving ski abilities. I hope it's OK a lady joins, not only guys :)
Love it. Worked on a number of those with Swiss Ski School Grindelwald on Carv today. I guarantee that you can get that "cross under" score up with a couple of little extra moves that the weightlessness and scooting of the skis across the hill gives you the time for that you are not doing on that assessed run.
Really nice overview and breakdown of different techniques! I'm not sure that it was clear enough in the video that these are quite advanced. Many intermediate skiers will easily get too backseat trying the cross under technique, or skid too much with the stivot.
Thank you very much. Yes and if you know intermediate skiers tell em to see an instructor or join a camp. Its very hard to learn alone but very possible.
The techniques in the vid are apparently so advanced that Jens can't do them properly. For example he describes the cross-under as "exhausting" when in fact if done properly you "bounce"/"trampoline" from turn to turn, only needing to brace briefly at the apex.
This is awesome. I've been using the stivot for years, and I just thought I was being sloppy, having some skid at the top of my turns before getting a bite and carve. Now I have a name for this thing I do, and can feel like I'm doing proper skiing. And THAT'S how I became a "better" skier in one short video.
Really helpful and informative to understand the different turn types and their application. Thank you for exposing that there is more than one way to carve, especially as an intermediate progressing.
Way to go on this! Your videos are getting better and better- I really like the new content and send this to all my students. Thanks for making us all better skiers (and for some us, better teachers).
The stivot is simply a tool for getting your skis back on a preferred line. What is controlling your speed is the slarve (tails sliding out at end of turn before the transition) you are using to finish those turns.
Agree thats how the ski racers use ut. They try to stivot in a way that to be able to ski tighter corridor. To try to edge some extra to slow down would lead to failure. How ever its a great way to controll speed if you wish todo so. Sure you can slarve to but it just doesn´t feel great it just feels like a lazy turn :P
Thank you. Actually you really wanna pressure the tip but the middle of the of the which on a piste ski might be under your toes. Stand on the front of the foot with shin pressure :)
Absolutely love these videos. But I seriously got to wonder, how are some of these shots of you blasting down the mountain being filmed? You're going quite fast, banging out some big carves, and blasting past other folks on the slope, so is the camera man essentially just going straight down the mountain, downhill racer style, no turns, right next to you?
Do any certain methods work better for certain ski types. I just purchased my first pair of skis (Salomon QST 92 183cm), and I just learned skis have a different turn radius depending on profile. I've always used shorter rentals that are also probably thinner. I've never thought about ski technique so I can't wait to compare the types.
Awesome video cheers from London England. I’m off to whistler in March my 3rd time in whistler. Do you have any videos on powder snow I mean like deep pow
Question! Tried to use the Stivot turn in steeper, hard snow/ soft snow runs to control speed. Had a few slips and went on my bum a couple times. Any recommendations to feel more stable when hitting those slippery hard patches?
Its almost certainly not the same as the third way. We like to call it a "skidded parallel turn" what you are probably doing if I can trust google translate. Its not the same as the stivot :) Focus on learning how to carve as a next step. Watch our beginner carving tutorial :)
Can you reccomend a good skis to buy? Now I have Volkl RTM 2019, they are good but dont forgive alot and not too good when slopes have heavy/wet snow, like in the end of the day. Im thinking if I should buy skis like “black crow” that are wider and flost better..?
@@StompItTutorials Is it on the iKon pass lol? I would love to one of these days. I need a passport first though. I like how open the mountain terrain looks there. I'm just getting back into skiing this year after snowboarding for most of my life.
Awesome, I believe I have the same skies as you used in the video and I LOVE them! BtwWould you like a discord server? It would be awesome and I can get it ready within soon if you would like so!
This doesn't come for free. You need POWER and STRENGHT to be able to carv properly. Before the season you need to properly strengthen your legs and core muscles and gain stamina. Carving is NOT for everyone. Carving is sport, heavy workout. If you are not willing to put effort of prework, dont dream of carving.

The cross under technique works great on powder. When the snow pushes back turn.
Yes it does!
Loving the content Jens!
Thank you Darien. How´s the skiing around New York at the moment?
It's typical east coast skiing, not a huge amount of snow, and very icy base. That said, it's been a good season so far.
@@StompItTutorials Not too bad, but looking forward to the next 10 days with the projected 70+ cm of snow coming.

11:04 "Look at that, it's pretty steep!"
The snowboarder behind you agrees.
Indeed :P
The cross under looks cooler when you're not on the toilet. Also it feels so much better whenthe skis push back against you floating down the slope.
Epic video as always, are you guys planning on making a video about speed control while carving any time soon?
Well we just touched on the stivot on the last third of the video. Try it that is for sure the easiest way to speed controll.
Amazing how you have improved skiing techniqe on groomers👏
I put som effort in the last couple of years to try to get ny ski technique on par with my freestyle skills.
What skis are you on. And what length compared to your bodylength? Great videos😀
Really love this video! Could you please explain how to load the tips to get more grip at the turn init? Thanks

I do too much of a carve turn in the steep black diamond. Groomed stuff throws you off. It's tough to have the right kind of turns for the condition.

Я как мегановичек без единой тренировки с тренером в основном катаюсь третьим способом. По правде сказать это скорее дрифт, а не карвинг)
