- Kenya’s President William Ruto says he will withdraw a finance bill containing controversial tax hikes after deadly protests which saw parliament set ablaze on Tuesday.
In an address to the nation, he said it was clear that Kenyans "want nothing" to do with the bill.
"I concede," he said, adding that he will not sign the bill into law.
At least 22 people were killed in Tuesday’s protests, according to the state-funded Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNHRC).

I give you a case in point. I live in a town where the infrastructure is collapsing. We've already lost on bridge to collapse and two others have been shuttered because they can no longer be crossed safely by the public at large. The roads have big pot holes but they aren't being filled in. The roads haven't been repaved in over 20 years so they are crumbling. Sewer and water lines are very old. In winter they leave whole swathes of roadway alone during snow storms and people actually get snowed in because there isn't a reasonably reliable crew that one can count on to fully monitor and manage roadways in snow storms. In the same breath. this year the town is finally getting one of the main roads in town repaved and all the water lines along it completed. However, all of that has to be financed between the town and the province which also isn't an easy walk depending on which austerity runner is in office. In other words, the problem is a very simple one. There is a need to increase taxes because it is by taxes shared among the populace of the town that one can fund some of the things that need happening. I realize you see nothing but theft but that is what taxes do for you. They share the burden. Unfortunately they've gotten a bad rap because we all including myself do not like paying them. I see them as a sort of rent. I pay them and I see something coming back to me in say potholes being filled or better road management during the winter months. At least that is how it is supposed to go.
Next step: start building a case against this criminal.He speaks with a forked tongue and can no longer be trusted.Kenyans do not vote for this man again. His right place is in jail.

The problem with the new narrative is I've never seen a single video of a peaceful protest in Kenya concerning this everything I seen from day one was a riot on day one. They will never peaceful they were throwing rocks on day one at the police breaking into shop stealing things. If you compare the video of what they call a peaceful protest with what they call the right after the alleged police opening fire you can't tell a difference it all looks like a violent riot. Which is why it makes it very believable that the place was probably open and fire as a last resort to protect themselves. As for any other allegations about the government I obviously don't know the truth but what I do know is that the police in the military was being attacked day one by violent people stop wanted confrontation with the police and military.

Kenyans don't mind paying the taxes by the way, but it hurts when the money the extra tax burden is wasted and politicians steal it. If Kenyans make the sacrifices of paying the debt then politicians should also make sacrifices and cut down on wasteful expenses, and decrease their bloated salaries. So if he doesn't assent the bill or refer it back to parliament in 14 days, the bill shall be taken to have been assented. His strategy is based on lies, and using force.
