    • @RetroPowerUp
      @RetroPowerUp 7 років тому +15

      Make sure the white lock tab is pulled out. It's the only thing that keeps them in place, the buttons on the joycons don't release it.
      And don't put them on backwards, because then you'll need a tool to press on the clips to get it to release (very bad design that a lot of people have accidentally done, including myself).

      Relevant Games She didn't mean anything by it, but I really was raging inside. If that hadn't have come off, I have no idea what I would have done as I hadn't even got to turning on the system! I couldn't have asked her to pay for it, because she doesn't have much money as it is, so I guess I would have been stuck with a brick console for a while.

    I have some problems with it, but just the fact that Zelda is a full console quality game that I can dock and undock at any time is amazing. I think the fact that you can create accounts for other regions and download games not available in yours could potentially lead to some great things, as long as Nintendo don't remove this later. Europe already has quite a few games that the US doesn't - admittedly most of them aren't very good but we did have more choice on launch day. Also if you buy games from the Japanese store and play them on your English speaking account, the games will be in English as long as they have the text in the code already.

    This is nostalgic. I wanted one at launch but I was living in Japan at the time and all the preorders were instantly sold out everywhere, and I would go into shops at least once a week after the launch to see if it was in stock for months until I left the country, and it was just constantly sold out. I didn't manage to get one until October 2017 after I had moved back to the UK.

    • @neeveizadi5193
      @neeveizadi5193 7 років тому +3

      ElBribri ok well this is a huge question. The most sensible answer would be the PS4 due the much bigger JRPG library over the switch. However, to be fair the switch is a new console and we have no idea how it will be in the future. At this point you should get a PS4, but if you love Nintendo exclusives... then take a leap and go for the switch. I would recommend you get a PS4 since you enjoy JRPG's and the PS4 can offer you so many games in that genre.

    • @wrathofvaughn9309
      @wrathofvaughn9309 7 років тому +2

    I love the Switch! All the defects that happened are normal, remember the PS4 launch? Just now people love to hate Nintendo so we don't really notice double standards. Also the console is so sleek and pretty. When it's docked and the joycon grip is in use. Oh it's so sexy. The only complaints I completely find understandable is the launch lineup. God when Splatoon 2 comes out this system will make me play it forever
    Oh P.S. The joycon strap issue is terrifying and incase it happens there are videos of how to easily fix it in a second.

    • @iamcharizard5468
      @iamcharizard5468 7 років тому +8

      Unfortunately, not having had been alive back when these games were "new", you missed out on the luxury of having been able to keep your collection from childhood like a lot of us have who were kids back in the 80's and 90's. I'd say it's really hard to collect for certain consoles (like the Super Nintendo) without having a decent income. Just be stingy with what you buy. Just start off getting the games you really like. You could always go to flea markets, garage sales, thrift stores, or what have you, to try and find good deals on games. It's starting to get harder and harder to find deals though. A lot more people have entered the hobby in the last 5 years or so. If you are really interested in the hobby, you'll find that getting deals relies heavily on your ability to haggle with sellers. That's your best money saving ability in my opinion. Good luck!

      In Wonderland I'm 14, and my parents are about lower-mid middle class. I started collecting 3 years ago and now have about 500-600 games and 10 consoles, most of it is self funded, I go thrifting and get most games for 1-3$ and sell what I don't want. I barely buy from eBay and just go to thrift stores pawn shops etc. that's how I collect at a young age.

    The only thing the 'Switch' (odd name for a gaming system) was good for was a shelf ornament collecting dust. People would use it for a month or two, they get stop using it and it gets abandoned.
    The only thing that made the Switch better than the WiiU, was the fact that you could take it anywhere, but it had such a short battery life, where it kept getting shorter quickly and were expensive to replace, that it wasn't worth it. The lack of movement on the control stick is awful, but at least they have the motion sensor to compensate.
    Mine is probably still kicking around somewhere.

      It seems Nintendo likes to disappoint. So, hold your switch tightly, and hope the joycons don't break off (you may want to wear gloves so you don't cut your thumb), if it breaks, your anger will release and you end up smashing the crap out of your Switch.
      Wii should take our Switchs to Nintendo and break them over their heads.

    Absolutely love the Switch. Like I'm a little amazed that I can play games of this quality on the go and they look fantastic. Breath of the Wild is also quickly becoming my favorite Zelda game, beating out Ocarina of Time which has been my number one favorite game and what I considered to be the best game ever made. So kind of a big deal for me.

    I picked one up at launch but it's been collecting dust. Zelda is amazing , Mario kart rocks, downloadable game selection is already badass. KOF 99 is a badass snk fighter. I just am very busy and can't set aside the time to play. I also have an Xbox one and playing madden and 2K on that takes up all my bandwidth. My brother convinced me to buy it and I am happy with it, I'm just not the target audience who can devote time to games like Zelda. That said, if you're on the fence about the switch, just buy it. It's quality hardware and craftsmanship and has one of if not the best game ever on it. Zelda breath of the wild

    The right analog stick does look uncomfortable, but everyone says it's not, but so does the Wii U gamepad, and I love the gamepad, it's just a little too heavy. I really want to test it!
    Aside from that, the only thing I can think off as a bad design was the Joy-con straps. Maybe a "wall" to stop them when hitting the buttons or the Analog stick, preventing to put them reversed, because that seems to stuck the controller.

    Absolutely love my Switch. Haven't had a single issue with it, not even the controller sync issue. That doesn't mean they don't occur obviously, but it also doesn't mean not a lot of them are due to the owner.
    Putting socks and such on the dock is likely to increase heating, which could lead to various issues such as the GPU overheating, creating artifacts and what not. So could putting it inside a cabinet do, making the exhaust just heat up the "cubicle". Pulling it out- and putting the Switch into the dock one-handed, by the corner at that, is likely going to scratch it, you could just as well scrape it against your wall. I'm sorry for anyone experiencing troubles though.
    If I have one issue, it's that too many games I want are digital only here in Europe. I want more physical games too 😅

    I want to get a Switch around the Holiday season when the game I want for it comes out.
    also, there might be a price drop because there was this video that showed only a few people getting these huge glitch problems with the Switch and then so many people in the comments of that video act like everyone who bought the Switch got these problems and are now hating on the Switch, and it's stupid in my opinion, because there will obviously be a few glitch filled Switch consoles on day 1 of selling, all consoles I'm pretty sure have a fair share of screwed up versions on day 1 of selling.
    EDIT: I also don't have one yet because my family is broke and can't afford a $300 console.

    How to turn off the Switch:
    Hold the power button 3-6 seconds and a menu called power settings should pop up. In this menu you can shut it down or restart it. I do that to conserve battery power, when I finish playing. Side note. The Joy-Cons do NOT charge while the Switch is shut down

    • @joemann7971
      @joemann7971 7 років тому

      I dont think that's necessary though. You might squeeze out another 5-10 mins of gameplay by turning it off over standby, but it's hardly worth it. I think the ability to just pick up and play outweighs the minor battery it uses in standby. For me, I take it to work and play during my breaks/lunch. I can't afford to wait for it to boot up, so for me, the standby feature is definitely a huge benefit. However, if you absolutely must squeeze out as much playtime, I guess shutting down is an option. You could also turn off wifi/turn down brightness, etc. All those things help conserve battery life.

    The only reason I haven't bought a Switch is because it's completely sold out in the US, and the prices in my country are outrageous (about US$570 for the system alone!). I'm desperately trying to get one at a reasonable price. In the meantime, I'm playing BOTW for WiiU, and I can tell you that the frame rate drops are quite frequent on that version, and not just in the Great Plateau. Everywhere I go I see the frame rate dropping quite noticeable from time to time, especially inside of towns with lots of NPCs, although it also happens out in the wild, albeit not as frequently.
    Regardless, it's a fantastic game, and the frame drops are not bad enough to sour the experience. I'm sure I'll enjoy the Switch version a lot more, but It's pretty clear that the WiiU struggles to run this game, even at the meager resolution of the Gamepad.

I can definitely see myself playing it until Mario Kart comes out. Definitely would purchase a season pass if developers decided to do a separate game mode from the main story and just had hours on hours on hours of fun shrines to do. Those are truly a blast and made me interested in the puzzle. 9.8/10 (.2 off for the minor let down in launch game options)

    I have a question for you.. Zelda Breath of the Wild was never spoken about when it was released on the WiiU... no one really even cared about it... yet all of a sudden everyone is raving about how good it is..why? How did it go from mediocre to fantastic in an overnight port to the Switch?.. especially when you consider that the only difference between the 2 games is a slight graphical upgrade.

    Getting insurance on game consoles usually is BS. However on Nintendo products it's worth it if you live in Central and Eastern Canada. it has to be mailed to Vancouver for repair. My 3DS broke and I had to send it off. It was covered by Nintendo but took 8 weeks for the whole process. EB games just gives you a new one on the spot with the insurance.

    I'm a gamer first and foremost. I don't have any attachment towards the actual consoles themselves save for maybe my 2nd gen Saturn which held a lot of rare and underappreciated gems on it with such perfectlty crafted controls just made for precision high react moments in fighting and platforming games.
    That said, after seeing Splatoon remastered edition and Mario Kart 8 remastered edition being overly stretched out throughout the year, and Mario taking a hiatus for Christmas apparently, my want for a Switch all but died. Only single reason I'd get one later would be strictly for Splatoon as it was the only reason I gave in to buying a Wii U, given as well that Xeno Blade X Chronicals was not far off as well. Plus, a Wii U for 99 bucks that comes with Mario 3D World and Zelda HD Windwaker wasn't half bad a deal either. ^^;
    I need to stop. Getting sidetracked. Switch has no true exclusives I feel actually has any true value for my money that I can't get better on another system. This month is just too packed with games I want and truly want to just dive into for once, given I don't recall feeling this overwhelmed by good titles in god knows how many years, that I'd be doing myself a disservice wasting money on a console that only has a Zelda my Wii U already plays at near identical levels and offers me enough freedom to play anywhere in my house, especially while prepping dinner or taking the dog out to the backyard.
    Nier Automata 60 bucks. Horizon Zero Dawn which I passed on for Zelda as people already spoiled some of the best boss fights in that game for me including the secret bird boss, so will get it after I truly finish Zelda as I've just been raiding the castle the instant I got my glider.
    But yeah, several games including many I haven't mentioned for PC, 3DS, PS4, and my Vita are just vying too hard for my money right now to just waste it all for a bump of 180p difference and minor sound qualities. I canceled my pre-order simply because I could not justify myself the cost of this system. Nintendo has burned me a bit too many times and keeps saying sillier things each day it seems to make me want one less and less. I think I'm good with hardware right now. I'll likely just get one second hand for when Splatoon comes to it. Not that I feel good about the whole Nintendo adding arbitrary costs to the Switch play online service when it adds nothing to the console itself which will require a smart phone or tablet to enable voice chats through the games using an app.
    Yeah, I'm pretty happy with my choice to pass on the Switch. I would rather a truer more consumer friendly successor to the 3DS come out than to invest in what will be an Indie machine for the next 3-9 months, depending which games you're genuinely excited for. I'd easily drop 500 for a dual-screen 1080p successor to 3DS that comes with backwards 3DS compatibility. Backwards compatibility is quite honestly Nintendo's secret advantage. It allows people to move up the ladder in hardware without having to suffer these expensive long droughts in game releases. I don't know. That's my take. I mean for people with out a care as to how they spend their hard earned money and generally feel safe burning away dollars, that's fine, Zelda on Switch is still a higher quality experience at face value than the Wii U.
    I do however care how I spend my cash and I do try to maximize my time with games as best I can. So yeah, I'm not bothered by frame drops, Zelda is an easy game and by no means are we in some esports setting where fps would truly matter so I went with Wii U version and I am loving it. I can't say it's the best game I've played in years so much as it's one of the few open world titles since Witcher 3 that I've earnestly enjoyed given my penchant for exploration and freedom of choice in these games. Hence why I loathe and disgust FF15's lazy flash and zero substance sandbox of hp sponge spelunky bare bones dungeon designs and repetitively weak not-true open world sandbox which is littered with nothing but invisible walls damn near everywhere. For an RPG to claim itself to be open world and show off all it's supposed HD environments and super bosses with almost no real thought put into them to complement the combat system in an earnest way, yeah, Zelda is by far one of the best games out right now and I would still likely say the same and have as much fun with it even if it was a 3DS exclusive.
    sigh
    I don't mean to offend anyone if they're console enthusiasts but I could not care less to flex my epeen buying cheap plastic if another system can perform the game just as well or better. I used to be hardcore exclusive console player who preferred stuff we never had on PC before. JRPGs, Fighters, arcade beat-em ups, PLATFORMERS, and action adventures titles. Many of those labels these days highly misinterpreted by casuals and mainstreams that think just because CoD and anything that grants you arbitrary lvls is an RPG tend to take for granted. Back then we had only consoles if we wanted to game seriously. Today though we have choice*s*, plural the heck out of that. If you can only afford to game on one platform, and only one, and you had to choose between tablets, 3DSes, Vitas, Xbox One or PS4 or a PC or Switch? Switch would not be in my recommendations for any new player at all. A 3DS or PC would be your best bang for your buck at this stage or PS4 if you're just not into the PC scene.
    If you have a Switch, all that means is you have a new piece of plastic. Patience may or may not reward you. Especially if you're a current or former Wii U owner. The continued middlefinger to gamers with the insulting lack of internal memory because why give us more when they can shift the cost to the consumer? No thanks. Needing to pay to play online? You'd think they'd wait until they had a bigger library than preying on the Splatoon crowd.
    So much wrong with Nintendo's game plan that is going to cause them problems with the mainstream, the very audience they want to attract, that I can't possibly see the Nintendo Switch succeeding in the west without the level of passionate devs that made the 3DS such a good place to game on. Now that system needs an update.
    They really messed up with how they pushed it to be too much a home console then a great multi-touch display system capable of doing both console and mobile platform levels of good. Sadly I don't see Nintendo allowing an app store like Apple and Android if only because it would drive away money from their own and other third-party publishers returns. So idk, I'm good with my ipad pro 9.7 as is and my note. I'm aware I'm ranting btw, just so much I wish Nintendo would just improve on internally with their company. I'm not going to be parading around town playing a Switch in a game while having my smart phone on my to chat in the Switch game I'm playing with said friend. That's just stupid and overly impractical. Makes me think they're being extra cautious given a couple minor incidents with the 3DS drawing app or something and how the media LOVES LOVES LOVES to paint anything nintendo does as a danger to children safety.
    And this is why we can't have nice things from Nintendo. r.r
