Great to see some footage of you riding! Real world testing, symptoms, and adjustments are awesome to share in a format like this video. Especially jetting. Being able to hear a rich or lean condition is a huge part of jetting.
Very interesting video dude. Thanks for sharing. I put a fly wheel weight on my kx450x and found it helped more than I expected and it only 11 or 12 oz. Made me wonder at the time if even more weight would benefit even more. From my understanding of how a flywheel changes power delivery, I assumed a bigger weight would be even better to smooth power and limit stalling.
Thanks! I have a 2016 I have been making modifications to make it basically a trail bike. Adding a flywheel (19 oz?) reduced stalls significantly. I am always impressed on how easy it is to start my bike.
Looks like fun! Id love to hear how much you have into it at this point from the initial $500. And where you think the money was best spent, comparing just run of the mill parts and more exotic upgrades.
No hard enduro bike is complete without e-start! Have you thought of putting in one of the new starter kits from Fisch Moto? The build quality looks top notch, much better than the Panthera ones.
Can you set your audio to stereo in your editing software for future vids? It must default to mono, because i only get audio in one of the 2 headphone speakers. Great vids Chuck.
Makes sense about the traction benefits as you described. Does adding a flywheel wight conversly add to more clutch wear with slow speed riding where it takes a bit more to rev up and not stall? Not sure if I've phrased that question correctly.
Really good explanation of what a flywheel weight does. How tall are you, you make that bike look like a 85. Look forward to the updates. Thanks for all your hard work.
Great video Chuck! Few questions for you. Is a flywheel of this moment of inertia (weight x diameter) for sale anywhere? Do you plan to sell this flywheel? Or the plans/drawings? Seems like you may have an opportunity here? Id love to see you succeed and earn the big money that you deserve! Was there any moment during your test ride where you thought to yourself "wow the bike behaved much differently than without the added flywheel weight" Where have you noticed the flywheel weight really shine? Keep the updates coming! Personally i think yZED videos are a dime a dozen but I'm super interested in comparing with and without flywheel since it's such a drastic difference.
I have a lot to say about this topic. I did a bunch of testing and I’m working on a video to articulate my thoughts on it. It will be available if people want it though.
Gotta love the modern bikes, However there is something special about kickstart, carburetor and knowing you’ll be able to get parts for the next 50years After all the testing I am curious to hear how much the flywheel affected the engine characteristics and how close or far off it compares to an enduro bike If someone had a 250x CDI that you could borrow for a test , that would be interesting as well ( assuming this is the motocross model)
I drip a fair bit down the bottom end while building the engine and mix a bit rich for break-in. I’ve actually been considering richening up my oil ratio permanently. More power & better lubrication.
I used to tell people to get a small measuring cup and pour one ounce of oil in it. Then imagine thats all the oil in 20, 32, or 50 oz of gas. It’s not much oil even at 20:1. I ran 24:1 of A747 and race gas in my 2s road race bike and 32:1 Golden Spectro & pump gas in my dirt bikes.
That’s usually a sign of a lean condition. You can test by removing the air filter & spraying in a bit of fuel, or turning the air screw in (if you can.)
Does it still turn the same with the flywheel? What about a power valve mod, Ive watched a few videos from those Hitlis YZ250 power valve guys and the bike sound really smooth.
I ride between 1000’ and 6000’ most often. I forget what the jetting is. It’s wonky due to the head & the porting. Every bike & every rider is unique. I find jetting specs largely useless.
yzs are by far the more untamable 2 strokes of the bunch the science and innovation behind there top and bottom ends have always set them that much more apart.

Your idea of an easy ride is different than mine.
Exactly!
Haha. There’s a bunch of logging road too.
Super interesting content Chuck. Love your curiosity and knowledge.
Love how the 2 strokes sounds. I could listen to 10 minutes of it.
Oh, I’ve got hours of that. Picking through it is a tedious chore.
me too, but look at the smoke… to feel guilty about…
4:15 🤔 never really thinked about it that way. Insightful.
That 2 stroke sound. So beautiful. ❤😂
Looks like a beautiful place to ride. My kind of trail!
What are your thoughts on the port work you did??
I don’t think it helped much. I think the head made a bigger difference.
@@ChuckfromTrueTech interesting. Ok thanks

Will you have a list with all the modifications you made? I would like to see that!
Another great video.
It looks great and performs. I wish I rode it. 😢
When’s the next video coming out?
Looks like fun! Id love to hear how much you have into it at this point from the initial $500. And where you think the money was best spent, comparing just run of the mill parts and more exotic upgrades.
I did a cost update a couple episodes ago. There really aren’t any exotic upgrades. I wanted to keep it practical.
I got a 28oz weight on my 96 cr250. It pulls like a schoolboy and will still wheelie in top gear.
No hard enduro bike is complete without e-start! Have you thought of putting in one of the new starter kits from Fisch Moto? The build quality looks top notch, much better than the Panthera ones.
I’d love to, but if I was going to spend that kind of money I’m in the ballpark of a KTM.
Totally fair, but you'd also have the best YZ250 enduro on the planet! Everyone and their sister has a KTM :D @@ChuckfromTrueTech
That's true. I have a KTM as well. I'll be comparing the YZ to my KTM soon. @@ShawnBlais
Nice, I'm currently riding a 2014 Husaberg 300 w/ KYB swap in the front, love the old girl @@ChuckfromTrueTech
Great test ride info!

It must default to mono, because i only get audio in one of the 2 headphone speakers.
Great vids Chuck.
Yep. I finally figured out why it’s doing that. Got it sorted on the last couple.
Unrelated but would you ever review the Hitlis system I keep seeing things about it
I doubt I’ll have opportunity to test it thoroughly enough to review it.
Makes sense about the traction benefits as you described. Does adding a flywheel wight conversly add to more clutch wear with slow speed riding where it takes a bit more to rev up and not stall? Not sure if I've phrased that question correctly.
It should do the opposite. You should need less clutch IF the engine has enough power. That’s why I did the porting & the head.
MESSY shop!!! Chronic underachiever I'd say !!😁Looking for more weight in the flywheel ? scrounge up a chunk of brass .
Which brand hand guards did you go with and the inboard clamp mounts in particular?
Emperor Racing.
Have you guys tried the lectron carb? The sales pitch on them sounds nice IMO
Yep. I have a video laid out. Just gotta get around to editing it.
Chuck, i am very interested to know how to porting felt. Was it good or bad? What is there to learn from this?
I can’t be certain because I made multiple changes but it feels to me like the head made more difference than the porting.
Chuck awesome riding footage. Just curious to ask if you were “ presently surprised “ about the YZ250 project that you undertook???….👍
I have a bunch of mixed thoughts about it. I think it could make sense for the right person. Working on a video to cover it in-depth.
Have you heard of the hitlis kit for the yz250? I recently learned about it and it sounds great for a enduro bike.
Nope. Not familiar with it. What is it?

I’m 6’4”. It feels small. Most Jap bikes do.
Ever ride and older GasGas? Feels like a 7/8th scale bike. @@ChuckfromTrueTech
Did you balance the flywheel?@@ChuckfromTrueTech
Im curious to know what you thought of the different flywheels and curious to know what you thought about your porting work?
I have too much to say in a comment. I’ll put out a bunch of testing info next week and the week after.

Always better to add more oil than the recommend premix ratio? Interesting…

@@ChuckfromTrueTech interesting, thanks. But it’s mainly for break in

My 2022 250x revs really high on cold start with the choke. Not sure why. It only has 3 hours on it.

No difference in turning noticeable. I installed the X transmission & power valve spring.

If only I could fit a heavier flywheel on my 450. The newer yz450f’s have absolutely no room for a weight. Would definitely dial it in perfectly.
only getting mono audio on your videos fyi.. last one was left this one right:)
I think I’ve got that solved now. Next one uploading right now. Taking forever in 4K.
Why does it sound like it has a super charge 😂
yzs are by far the more untamable 2 strokes of the bunch the science and innovation behind there top and bottom ends have always set them that much more apart.
The proper thing to do would be dial in the jetting first. Then you’d realize the yz doesn’t need a massive flywheel to properly ride soft enduro.
Going up and down 5000ft doesn’t tell you it’s rich or lean at sea level lol
I'm just here waiting for the comments from the Americans giving you crap for saying Y "Zed" instead of Y "Zee".
