Damn, so refreshing to get such a balanced professional audio review (unlike so many audio snake oil reviewers out there). So true what you said about the necessity for AB testing, and how we can’t just rely on our memories of sounds.
Yesterday I went to a local HIFI shop and demoed a lot of headphone amps up to the 2000 dollar range, including Woo Audio's Wa7. Not even doing a careful AB test as you have here, everything sounds the same. I was sure I would hear a difference but if they are there they so slight it does not matter to me. Headphones still sound different to each other, and maybe that should be enough in this hobby. Thanks again for your reviews!
Indeed, headphones make the real difference in sound. As long as an amp is powerful enough to drive a given pair of headphones, it would be easier and free to fine tune the sound signature one wants via EQ, instead of spending $$$ on DACs and amps.
@@1812JSmith Yup, the only time I heard a difference was with some tube amps. EQ is king!
Okay so that was hilarious. Right after you said "Schitt" the volume cut out on your video. I thought you had gotten edited, but no, I had just turned on my K11 and it took over the audio. Anyway, the timing was really funny. Now, on to my real comment. I (obviously) have the Fiio K11. And I could not agree more with your assessment. As a beginning reviewer aka "youtuber audiophile fanboy" (might as well tell it like it is lol), I have found that this little workhorse is the most, as you said, transparent and neutral desktop dac/amp that I have. I think the SMSL DL200 is close, but I find that unit a little flat, so I do not use it much. The K11 allows me to hear my iems and headphones as they were intended to perform. At least it seems that way to me. And based on the feedback from most of my reviews, others seem to think that I am getting a pretty accurate picture of what I am reviewing as well. It is a great tool for that reason. It is enjoyable too, which is what we are after in the end. Anyway, thank you for your review. You confirmed, much more scientifically and objectively, what I had felt since I put it into the stable. It is my go to. Now I wonder what you might think of the XDuoo TA-22. Seems to be some question about the 3W of power that claims... I wish I could test it accurately. Anyway, sorry for taking over the comments! Thank you for a great, accurate and honest review once again! ☮

@@Gnome2905 I'm using this with Audioengine A5+ powered speakers, and a Polk Audio 10" 100W sub on my Windows 10 workstation. Works fine.

Quick question for you; Do you find that different companies have a ‘house’ sound? I know that most dacs all sound clean and neutral, but do you find slight differences in ‘flavours’ (for lack of a better term) between them?

Hi, no. There’s no “house sound” to these dacs. None of these companies are doing anything to alter the dac chip’s processing-except in some instances limiting the supported audio resolution.
Great review. I own a ATH-R70X and considering half of people claim it absolutely needs an amp and the other half says it runs perfectly off their PC with a cheapass mobo I am still waiting for an opportunity to test some amps myself if I can find a shop nearby.
I turn off the logo LED and set the front panel display to auto turn off after 5 mins, making it just a black box.
In three hours, I will order the K9 AKM. 🎉

I'm interested in this device, but i can get a zen dac v1 for half the price.. i'm using Beyerdynamic 48ohm dt770 pro x .. currently i have them connected through my m-audio track solo interface. Would you reckon either one of this would be a noticeable upgrade?

@@NoThemeReviews I must have missed it. Rewatching it you talk about setting the" brightness from zero..." so I assume you mean that. "The led logo is very gaudy....and constantly being reminded of it through harsh led isn't helpful." So what's the "quirk" or issue if you can turn the "harsh led" off? Simply the logo itself?
I clearly said at the end three issues that are not big problems. Logo, screen info, and no dedicated app.

Doesn’t matter. Just be careful about volume.
How does this compare to Fosi SK02 in terms of transparency and neutral signature?
They’re exactly the same when volume matched.

There amazing for gaming and blow away 90% of gaming headsets directionery vertical sound staging imaging are all amazing awful for movies and fun for music pop dance techo etc there great very warm and fun without any muddying... thee gaming performance was shockingly good and out of every sub 50 ohm pair I own they are by far the easiest to drive and are naturally loud on a k11 ampdac and sb g6 they are driven hard and ,loud easy..... I have got rid of my hd599s my hd560s and my astro a40s and I know only use fiio jt1s fio ft3s and epos h6pros in a gaming music movie combo my stereo listening is k11 my surround listening is SB G6
