    I'm also gifted with ADHD-I, and I love this video. The most amazing part is that you kept my attention for over 10 minutes! Thanks so much.

    Thank you for this. I've been watching tons of productivity and to do list videos and honestly, this was so much better than 90% of them. Thank you !

      This comment totally made my day! Since I'm such a UA-cam newbie, it's hard to tell whether the content is useful. Thanks for the feedback.

    I use noteability too and never thought to import a to do list and then mark on it. Genius idea 🙂

    Totally not weird to have reminders for everything! Sometimes people that aren't ADHD don't understand how scattered I can be. Something that a person might say or do might remind me of something totally unrelated, and if I don't write down due dates for library books onto my calendar I forget to get to the library to renew or check out new ones. I'm so glad I've discovered someone else that uses this technique.

      Yes! I just had an annual task pop up to remember to order this specific drink that we have at our holiday Danish meal. If I didn’t remind myself, I’d be running around at the last minute OR we would just have to do without. Reminders are painless and effective!

    Your last comments made me think about when I was growing up, and how my family would try to pressure me into doing things and complete things the way they would do them, and then they would get angry with me, or yell at me that it wasn't done fast enough, or good enough, or the fact that I wasn't done yet. Once I moved out I was finally able to breathe without someone screaming at me about how I breathe. There are still moments though (when I visit certain family members) that the anxiety comes back because I know that at some point when I do something in a way that works for me someone will get upset that I'm doing it wrong, or that it's not they way they would do it. Talk about frustrating, because letting them know how they treat me and how it makes me feel, I'm not heard. Their first response is "oh you're being too sensitive, grow up". Emotional roller coaster ride that I would like to get off of, but can't, because no one is willing to listen and be understanding, and these are the people that I'm supposed to turn to for help, for support, for love.

      That breaks my heart a little. There are so many ADHD kids who’s families don’t understand how differently their brains work. It sounds like yours also had some impossible perfection thresholds. I hope you have some people in your life who encourage you and let you take risks without fear of criticism!

    Lara - 2 questions on this if you please:. (1) do you incorporate any sort of daily review in order to add things to your hotlist when necessary? I imagine your "All Tasks" list must be 100s of items long, but surely you don't put a due date on every task when you create it? (2) which books or authors have influenced your views on task management and productivity? Seems like you have created a really nice system that works uniquely for you, but it'd be nice to know what has informed it!

    • @marblejarchannel
      @marblejarchannel  6 років тому +2

      Hi, there! I don't do a daily review, but am constantly adding stuff to my list throughout the day. And I actually DO put a due date on everything, because yes, my "All Tasks" list is gargantuan. This is a little tricky for bigger projects, but I just start out by putting a task for myself to "Break project down into smaller pieces" -- all with dates. I love your 2nd question, because I am such a fan of researching before implementing. In this case though -- my systems all came about organically. I've looked at the systems that other folks use, but my needs have been slightly different, so these systems are all just home grown -- changing as the technology changes. Thanks for the comment!

    Wow! I am just in awe of this. I also have ADD and I’m a Mom of 2 girls (5,7). Im not as tech savvy as you are and I do love the way you were able to import the task list. I have a lot of trouble scheduling appointments because right after I schedule them I realize I’ve selected a horrible day or time based on other things not on my visual monthly wall calendar (like traffic). Or, I’m on the phone somewhere away from home making the appointment. Thank you for all your tips!

    The way you use Goals in Toodledo is what David Allen called context in Getting Things Done and Toodledo is already set up for it (you probably figured this out by now). The context is where you are when you do the task and starts with the @ sign. Mine are @home @errand @computer @spouse @phone @school @reference. I love your videos! And I love toodledo. I've been using for about 10 years now (or something like that).

    • @marblejarchannel
      @marblejarchannel  4 роки тому

      Hi, Debbie. Since doing this video, I've switched over to Todoist, which does most of what Toodledo did and is a slicker interface. But I still have a soft spot for Toodledo!

    First time viewer, but will be checking out your other videos. My mind was blown when you said that Todoodledo had an app. I had used them years ago and was certain they didn’t have an app of their own (maybe they didn’t have an app for the OS I was on at that time?). Anyway, Todoodledo was the one digital task manager that I kept coming back to because it allowed me to filter tasks in a way that made sense to me. Ultimately, though, I went back to paper because I’m not in front of my computer very often. Even though I find entering data on a phone screen tedious, now that I know they have an app, it may be worth checking out as I have been forgetting a lot of things lately and it’s beginning to irritate my spouse.
    Also, I didn’t find your recurring tasks to be embarrassing or bizarre. My weekly tasks include things like cleaning my hair brushes and combs and calling my mother. My monthly includes financial/budgeting and planning tasks. My yearly includes pulling our credit reports. Then I have other tasks that occur on other timelines. For example, changing the head on the toothbrush is every three months.

      I'm so glad that you discovered the Toodledo app! I think it's a little clunky, but like you -- I find the filtering and options much better than other systems, so I've stuck with it!

    Hey Laura thanks for this, I am very similar in liking digital apps to track what I need to do, however, I love the tactile use of notes, this brings those two needs together beautifully...

    Lara don't be embarrassed, I'm sure lots of people, me included, use systems to help keep themselves on track. I use Toodledo also, but mostly just to keep my shopping lists and also a health log (a list of the things that have happened in my health history, so I can keep track of when I started a certain medication, etc.) I too love that it's cross-platform, so I can create a shopping list at home and reference it at the store on my tablet. I use Google calendar to keep my tasks like my yearly, monthly and weekly to-do's. But I don't look at Google calendar much, because every day I transfer the tasks to Microsoft Word and read them there. I'm at home a lot so I don't need that list to be cross-platform. In Word I can rearrange the tasks any way I like. I too like the feeling of crossing off a task physically when I'm done with it, but unfortunately Word doesn't allow that. But deleting the tasks when I'm done is good enough. I can also easily move a task to tomorrow if I don't get it done today. So you see, other people have systems too! And I don't even have ADHD! I just can't remember everything, and my life doesn't seem even half as complicated as yours.

  • @mariamiranda3208

    I must be ADHD too because the list of things to do is my list as well! :) but I have them as a reoccurrance in Google Calendar. I'm definitely going to check this particular app! If it works for you then I'm sure I'll love it too.

    Hi Lara: have you done a vlog on your sons sticker chart? I’m trying to figure out how to keep my kindergartener and first grader doing responsibilities/sight word homework and a trigger to help me to stay consistent in training them!

    • @marblejarchannel
      @marblejarchannel  5 років тому

      I haven’t done a video on this yet, but I do like sticker charts. Two tips I would give: 1) post it somewhere super obvious, like your kitchen and 2) use stickers if convenient, but I’ve also colored the blocks in with marker. Still visual, but sometimes more convenient than stickers. Good luck!

    Hi Lara, great video! We share some similarities in needing to have a proper system and the right apps to keep on top of things. I use ‘Things’ from Cultured Code. It is also a cross platform tool, does all the things (pun intended!) that seem important to you in your current task manager BUT also allows you to sort your ‘today list’ tasks manually in the order you intend to do them which I love. You can also add tags to each task estimating how long you expect it to take. You should check it out. Just found your channel - it’s awesome 😊

    • @marblejarchannel

    This is driving me bonkers. How do I keep shopping list from mixing with toodledo do. If I turn remind off and add toodle as a contact it will email task but only to gmail. It doesn’t go to toodle. How do you set this up??

    • @marblejarchannel
      @marblejarchannel  6 років тому

      Not totally sure I am understanding your question, but is your Toodledo contact set up with the import email address? To find this email address, go to Settings (upper right hand corner), then Profile & Settings, then scroll down to New Task Defaults and click on email. This should show you your unique import email address. Let me know if this works or doesn't answer your question!
